Exactly… I honestly think the wait is longer if you try to get new releases from Blockbuster. What’s ironic is that it probably costs 4 times as much to hang on to a game from Blockbuster. With gamefly I keep games as long I want and the monthly fee never changes. That goon probably ended up paying $100 to rent Resistance 2. HA!
Actually that just reminded me… I’m playing Resistance Retribution right now on the PSP which is another point for gamefly: handheld rentals! It’s no mystery that the bulk of PSP games are not worth shelling out any cash for. I’ve saved a fortune renting just them and even managed to snatch a few of the better ones up at sick sale prices. I don’t think I’ve paid more than $15 for a PSP game ever from gamefly.
I have gamefly and honestly, I think I pay too much for it. At one point, I used to play the hell out of games, but now, I’ve just been sitting with these games on my desk and not really getting to them because I don’t have time to play them. It’s expensive. I had the four game plan when I used to do game reviews for the local newspaper, but now that my gamefly isn’t subsidized I think I’m going to cancel. I always try to return my games right before the new ones that I want come out, but lately it seems like my chances of getting a new release are slim to none. That’s what I really hate. And the wait time from them mailing it, me getting it, me sending it back, and them recieving it is getting more and more rediculous, despite the company having multiple shipping centers.
Another problem: They DO NOT offer telephone support. Once I got charged for a game, some how it got registered that I wanted to do the ‘keep it’ thing, although I did not want to keep this copy of MY SIMS KINGDOM that my roomate asked to have added to the queue, stupidly. It was such a pain in the ass to get that fixed.
My gf and I use it and we enjoy it. We have the 2 game plan and typically we try to get one ps3 game for me and 1 DS game for her. We get really good turnaround time here in los angeles though, and I could see how location could really make or break a service like this.
Right now I’m sitting on little big planet, but we’re going to buy it at midnight on the 26th, so that hopefully they’ll send infamous out the next day…
Somewhat of a bump, but the last posts in this thread came through a few months ago. I was wondering if anyone had any updated thoughts on gamefly, or any of the other rent online services. I have this blockbuster rent in store plan, but it’s more expensive than gamefly and they never have anything.
Thoughts since a bunch of new games have come out? Anyone still having shipping problems?
Lets be honest here, at 4 games a month that equals out to 48 games a year.
There might be 48 good games TOTAL on ps3 since the release of the ps3.
So Im not quite understanding your rational in gamefly being cheaper when its actually not if you own the “essential” ps3 games which you shouldnt be renting anyhow. I would see someone using Gamefly to preview games they were considering buying, not as a full out substitute for games they couldnt afford. Because if you get a game you ultimately LOVE, youre going to have to eventually give it back.
In the last 3 months we got Blazblue and… ARGUABLY Infamous/Prototype.
The next thing to drop is KoF, then MvC2, then what? Bayonetta in September? Tekken 6 in October?
If youre getting 4 ps3 games a month are you getting the same games over again? Or are you just trying out random stuff?
I just signed up last night, got an email today saying 2 games are shipping out. See how long it takes to get from LA to Hawaii.
I’m hoping this’ll save me some money by keeping me entertained while I wait for my “must-have” titles to be released. To play the kind of games that get you never planned on buying, but got your curiosity piqued via hype & word-of-mouth. I already bought several games that, while quite good, weren’t endearing enough to justify not trading them in afterwards.
Course I don’t expect to play new releases the same week they come out, so during the interim I’ll see what all the fuss is about older acclaimed titles (Bioshock, Mirror’s Edge, etc).
I like Gamefly, but I’ve been trying to get Final Fantasy XIII or Heavy Rain for almost a month, but I keep getting my #3. First, I got Yakuza 3 (which ended up being one of the best games I’ve even played), and now Bayonetta is on the way.
Their listed as Medium, so I dont understand the problem. I do want to play Bayonetta, but I’d rather play FFXIII or Heavy Rain.
I’ll just have to return Bayoneta as soon as I get it.
Aww dude play Bayonetta. It’s incredibly good. Also thanks for the answer that’s good to know. Will be buying that copy of Uncharted I rented from them then.
