the seeding is pretty standard.

Random seeding would… not… be seeding. It’s kinda how it works. If there’s seeding, that is. I prefer not getting byes personally as I learn more from playing more people.
Well yeah I guess that’s what I meant. No seeding would have been better. I’m not unhappy about not getting a bye, just unhappy that I am punished for it when it comes to points.
@koreanfrank: Gameclucks asked for input on the tournament set up and I gave some. If no one else had spoken up I probably wouldn’t have said anything. I’m trying to be helpful here. And just because something is “standard” doesn’t make it good.
I think E-man is probably the one who made the brackets. Not trying to disrespect him. I’m just calling into question whether the first event should have been seeded at all.
Chris (gameclucks) made the bracket for the last tourney and I signed off on it pretty much. The seeding was based off the previous 1v1 event which was in August.
PNW tourney standard has been seed ~top 4, randomly seed the rest since the first tourney I went to back in Dec 2003/04. I think it works better than any other system.
@bitq I was at the last tourney and I remember getting a bye in the first round. If the seeding was based off of reputation or previous tourney experience, and meant to “reward” good players with byes, then I shouldn’t have gotten one, right? So it seemed pretty fair/random to me. Besides, on the flip-side of your argument, are you advocating punishing people for getting byes? If someone got a bye in the 1st round and then goes on to win it, should they get -1 point? That seems worse to me. Byes happen because of not enough entrants in the bracket. Unfortunately there’s no real way around that with the tournament format.
Hmmm good point. There isn’t an easy solution. When Chris explains the details of the system perhaps we can figure something out. I don’t know if you deserved a bye. I don’t think I’ve played you, so I can’t say if that is true! Your avatar is Sim and I hate Sim so you are already intimidating haha.
Bitq people who got byes deserved them in this tournament due to history. Even if people get byes who don’t deserve them that just how brackets work. This shit isn’t equal opportunuty bullshit. It’s seeded then the brackets are randomized if you get a lucky bye then yay if not oh well. There will be no “equalizing” or method around byes. Placing is determined on where you fall in the loser’s bracket and points are based on that. I believe that ony top 8 should be getting points but otherwise this point system works too. Jimmy plays Rog/Guile and is good with both. He’s a fuckin saint.
You ge byes/seeding when you deserve them (it’s always better to see good players play each other later in the bracket rather than knocking each other out early on). Otherwise pray you get lucky. You don’t get puniushed for not having a bye you get punished for losing. Byes are just random outside of seeding.
Also Bitq, records don’t mean shit really. Rob plummer went 8-2 at evo I went 6-2 at evo. I placed higher than him. I went through the winners bracket longer therefore i placed higher.
Its the TiO manually random seed system!! WOOOOOOO!
Are you actually pissed off or is that just how you sound on the internet? I feel like I’m on blast all of a sudden for making some comments about the tournament system. Comments that were requested… I won’t try to give any more input if this is how it is received. If my first post came off as angry and whiny I am sorry. That is not what I intended. I’m not angry at all about this stuff, just thought my opinion could be useful.
Thats how I talk too. I just say it how it is.
-This double elim tournament system has worked since way before my time and it will continue to do so.
Edit: I guess it hard to undersand my tone the then just assume unless otherwise stated as [Stern] [/Stern] always
Ah, gotcha. I’ve felt recently that I was getting a little hate from you and I want to make sure we are cool. I’m not here to start any fights. Although I do very much enjoy watching all the shit that gets tossed back and forth in this thread and others.
Tone is hard to convey on the internet…

Super troll’s never let the opposing side get the last word. Lynnhood = super troll
Ok… sorry all was out for the last 7 days.
Seeding - It was seeded based on past performance… Hyre and E-Man helped me rank people.
I prefer to seed as many people as possible and random as few as possible, seeding at least 8 when there are more then 20 people.
Future Seeding is planned to use the League Points. We can seed diff if you wall want, but if we have a point/ranking system, then I would say use it as much as possible.
Point System - Since I just got back into the US 14 hrs ago, I havent had time to get Rick (the guy who made the TP Website with the bracket and point system) to give me the point system changes/update from last Season Smash test run.
Will try and get that explained to you all this week before the event.
The diff in points someone laid out is prob due to Byes, as a Bye is technically a Win, as you advance in the bracket for it.
Unfair to no names, new people and n00bs? Sort of… but its the “reward” for being known, ranked and winning.
Could we have done the first event as 100% random, I guess… but to be honest, should Cole and Bokkin ever face each other first round?
I would lean on the side of NO… so if I hit the Random button and then moved a couple people around, that would in many cases be even more unfair then seeding as much as possible.
I will try and get a full Point System explanation out though this week and if we need to tweek something in it, then we will look at that.
You guys are the second time we have used this system (with the last 6 Smash events being the first “Season” to use it) so I am not even going to claim its a perfect system or anything… its something we are trying to put together to generate some additional excitement and incentive for players to grow all of our game events.
