Game On New York. Can Studio Udon come PLEEEEASE?

I’m going again this year, probably on Saturday. The free stuff wasn’t all that great, I remember just getting a few magazines. Hopefully, they’ll be better this year. And you can get tickets at the door on whatever day you go.

You can buy the tickets there or online. Online the ticket costs 12 bucks, on site it costs 15.

Oh yeah, if anyone’s at the show and wants to meet up with me or something just call my cell while your at the show, I’ll be there all three days for most of it. My number is (written this way to cut down on pranks just like last year…)

onethreefourseventwofourninefourzerofourfour

I’ll pust my picture up too in case we run into each other you can say hi!

Here’s the 1up.com ID card they made for me last year, it’s the only picture I had that survived… but I just picked up a Digital Camera, me putting up picks from the show online this year shouldn’t be a problem. On Friday I will be wearing a Street Fighter II T-Shirt (if Capcom’s not coming I’m still gonna represent damn it)! so if you see me say hello!

I just got this E-Mail from the show about the Xbox 360 presentation on Friday:

“The Laucnh of the Xbox 360 - Microsoft’s revolutionary new gaming and entertainment platform. Please join Peter Moore, Microsoft Corporate Vice President of Worldwide Marketing and publishing, as he ushers in the next generation of gaming and entertainment with the much-anticipated Xbox 360. This exclusive presentation takes place at 11:30 am, Friday, October 14, just before the show floor opens. Seating is limited, so be sure to get there early!”

I’ll try to show up as early as possible so I can get into this show, I’m about an hour away so no guarantees… I have Friday off from work so I don’t have to worry about my job at least.

Also in the same E-Mail -

“The DigitalLife 2005 Pro-Am Video Gaming Tournament - Digitallife hosts the largest video gaming tournament on the East coast. Think you have what it takes to take home one of the hundreds of prizes? Sign up for your tournament slot anytime on Friday, October 14 or just check out the action brought to you by the Global Gaming League.”

Last year they did have a mini Guilty Gear Isuka 4 player tournament that I participated in, I’m praying that they have the same thing this year with Sam Sho V and KOF '94 Rebout. Here’s hoping I can get my Charlotte/Terry on…

well here’s hoping it’ll be fun.

oh, and if you look hard enough you can get your tickets free.

I made the Xbox360 presetation! Taking a huge amount of pictures, having a good time so far!

DAY 1 REPORT

BEFORE THINGS BEGAN

I got there super early before anyone else. Not much to do except play Darkstalkers on my PSP and listen to my SF related tracks on my PSP and check Entertainment news on my Cell for a while. I tried to go online with my PSP at the show but with the Jacob Javits server they wanted 4.95 an hour. Um, no thanks. (But fret not, there’s free Internet in the actual show).

When the time of the show was fast approaching a lot of students got to go in front of me. Apparently lots of schools arranged school trips to Digital Life this year! Wow, I never got a cool school trip like that when I was young. If you are a student in a New York (5 Burroughs school) bug the crap out of your teachers, school president and what not so you can go next year! It was mostly Junior High, High School and there were even some College Kids who seemed to major in Technology of sorts.

INTEL SHOW

They started letting people in at about 10:00 AM. Before the actual show started there were presentations. The first one was from Intel. The show began with the Intel rep turning on a TV and turning on a Radio. And then he removed the outer casing of the TV to reveal you were watching regular TV on a Desktop Notepad! He also lifted up the Radio to reveal that your were listening to regular radio on a Cell Phone! He turned up the volume on the TV so you could tell that it was live from CNN. Unfortunately it was a story about a woman getting her abdomen sliced open so he quickly turned down the volume, said sorry, it’s live TV and every one laughed. They showed a bunch of cool things but the one thing that sticks in my mind is the Viiv computer. It comes with a remote control. You know how your PC takes a long time to boot up once you turn it on and a long time to shut down? Not anymore. With one press of the remote you can turn the Viiv PC on and off with a remote!

XBOX 360 SHOW

Now for a show we might actually care about - The Xbox 360 show! Mr. Moore was introduced mentioning all of his accomplishments but they mentioned he had one flaw, being a Red Sox Fan! Of course the NY audience booed at that. But they applauded him when he came out and he said everything was going well until they mentioned he was a Red Sox Fan. He got booed again and he said “As we say in Boston, better luck last year!” Ha ha! Onto the actual show -

First he began talking about how the old Xbox was inctredibly bulky and called it a “Big Black Beast!” An African American in the audience yelled “YEAH!” To which Moore joked “Did someone take that personal?” He then told us how they went to Japan for a redesigning of the Xbox 360 and they showed us all of the models before they came to the final version. At some point he showed us the wireless controller and he said that the downside of it is that people who the only excercise they recieved was walking up to the Xbox and turning it on are out of luck because the on and off switch is on the pad. We walked back about 10 + feet or so and was still able to turn on the Xbox at the show from that distance, so it works like your standard remote.

Next he showed off the games. Trailers of Kameo looked really cool. After that was the new Perfect Dark. Mostly they showed the FMV which seem to be live action footage and very few ingame images. He said that the PD game will be online and up to 35 people can play at the same time in a community itself. Then they showed off Gears of war and Capcom’s Dead Rising. Briefly they showed the 9999 game.

He went on to talk about all of the game companies that will be working for Xbox 360, and almost every company you can think of had their names on the screen. Capcom’s name was second which got the big “CAPCOM!” yell from yours truly of course. They showed a montage of all of the franchise games that will be on the Xbox, happy to say Resident Evil 5 got a big Applause! But there were others like the Final Fantasy Game, Dead or Alive, and many others.

As most of us all know already, the Xbox 360 is not going to accept any games that are beneath their hardware(the exception seems to be the Final Fantasy game) as this was said with a bunch of techno jargin but that’s the meaning behind it. However, there is an option for us 2D Fighter fans, weither or not this is exploited for newer 2D Fighters and includes online gaming content for 2 players for those fighters remains to be seen (and for me, it just may decide if I purchase the Xbox 360).

Basically they are going to have an Arcade Option where you can go online and play a slew of classic games. I’m talking Pac-Man and the like. Moore went to go play Joust, and before it came on Digital Eclipse’s logo flashed, the same people who worked on the excellent domestic release of the Capcom Classics Collection Port! He played a little Joust and then moved on to other things.

The Xbox 360 will be able to attach to other gadgets like Ipods and such. He even did it with a PSP who Moore called this little thing made by somebody, heh heh. He was able to open up his photos and music from his PSP.

They’ve teamed up with MTV and you will be able to download music and videos from MTV. This won’t be free. You can play a song and mess around with the colorful images on the screen while you listen if you want, and that works with any song you wish to download from another device of course.

The new Online subscription for Xbox 360 will be free, it’s going to be an entirely different package than the other Xbox Live subscription. Hope they don’t phase out the old one anytime soon so we can coninue our online SFAC, CFE, SVC Chaos, KOF MI, GGX# Reload matches going on for the time being.

He showed a lot of Xbox 360 TV commercials, there was a really cool one from Italy.

This was all good until he mentioned the price tag of $299 and that got the big BOO! He was able to turn it around by saying he would offer a free one later. Two guys stepped up on stage and competed in an Xbox 360 car racing game. One guy repped Brooklyn, the other guy repped Manhattan. Brooklyn won! As someone who grew up in Brooklyn all I have to say is “BUCK BUCK BUCK BROOKLYYYYYYYYYYN!” The winner got a free Xbox 360, they gave him the box but he’ll get the real one on the release date, 11/22/05.

That’s about it for the presentations. Will talk about the floor show next.

FLOOR SHOW DAY 1

As soon as you walk in just like last year you’ll see a bunch of games you can play for free up on Plasma screens. The Sammy rep I talked to last year about the non existent Sammy vs. Capcom game was back, I guess he’s a Sega rep now. GGXX# Reload wasn’t on the floor like last year since they were featuring new games, it’s too bad because the Sammy Rep was a really good player, we had some fun matches last year.

Speaking of Sega they were nice enough to list the games they were featuring at the show for playing on a handout flyer so I don’t have to rely on my swiss cheese memory. Spartan: Total Warrior, Full Auto, Chromehounds, Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic Rush DS, Virtua Rush Tennis Tour on the PSP, Condemed Criminal Origins, Phantasy Star Universe and Sonic Riders. I can vouch for most of these games being their except for Shadow, Sonic Rush and Virtua Tennis. Of these games the only one I got to play was the new Phantasy Star Universe. Four characters, a lot of fun, fought a big giant flying red dragon with two tails as a boss.

The only Konami game that I’m 100% sure was a Konami game that I got to play was Wallace and Gromit. The board I was on I had to suck a bunch of Rabbits up with a vacuum and sink them down the sewer. Oh well fun for the kiddies…

Played some other game where you control a Pirate Ship, fire canonballs at other Pirate Ships, board them and collect booty, AKA take their stuff. It was okay I guess.

I wanted to play the Teen Titans game at the show but it was always crowded. It looks sooo cool. You can control from up to about 30 characters from the show, even Speedy and Wilderbeast are there, whoa…

Now for the SNK booth. They had a very cool picture of SNK characters behind them and were giving out HUGE posters of a bunch of SNK characters on and stepping off of a bus! (I took pictures of all of this stuff, coming later on) They had Samurai Showdown V and KOF 94 Rebout available for play. Unfortunatley both joysticks on Sam Sho V did not work, only the first player joystick. The SNK rep said that Microsoft gave them consoles that have been on the rode and get banged up a lot, so that’s why the second joystick didn’t work. KOF 94 Rebout only had one joystick. There was no competitive play for us 2D fighter fans this year. Waaaaah! The funny part was when one of the guys playing Sam Sho V asked me what was wrong with the joystick and if I could fix it. He thought I was working for SNK since I had my Street Fighter II T-Shirt on. I told him “I don’t work here.” Pointed at the shirt and said “Wrong company.” I didn’t get to play Sam Sho V, it was always too crowded. I did get to play KOF 94 Rebout though. The Backgrounds are really neat as is the Anime Intro. SNK aslo had a screen in the middle where they showed games Firt they were showing a very cutesy Japanese type game(think Super Milk Chan), the trailer was entirely in Japanese even the text, I have no idea what this game was. Than the SNK Rep changed the video and they showed KOF Maximum Impact 2 for the rest of the day along with game footage of KOF MI2. Very nice!

On Namco’s booth they were mostly featuring arcade games on Cell Phones and displayed Cell Phone games were you could play these games. Pac-Man, Pac-Man bowling, Ms. Pac-Man to name a few. They also had a free arcade machine where you could play Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man or Galaga!

Nintendo’s booth let you play DS games but had them patched up to PCs so you could see the games on a bigger screen. Played a Donkey Kong game where you climb stuff and collect bananas for a bit.

The best part of the show and where I spent most of my time was the Gametap booth. Through PCs and with PS2 like Joysticks you were able to play a slew of classic games for free! Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Streets of Rage, Altered Beast, Gunstar Heroes, even Virtua Fighter 2 (again only one joystick waaah!) and more! I was in Old school heaven! OLD SCHOOL GAMES RULE!

They had Dance Dance Revolution and the Dancer people dancing as usual. And a big Halo game as the FPS people were shooting each other. And stuff like that which I can’t report much on since I’m not that much into those games, I do have Halo 2 in my house though, get killed online in like 2 seconds oooh…

Star Wars Battle Front II was at the show available for play. They had Stormtroopers and Darth Vader there too. Well, people in costumes at least. I swear Stormtroopers go to every single convention…

Speaking of which yesterday I saw no cosplayers when last year there was a slew of them. There were people who worked for their respective companies and dressed up as the characters like the Star Wars People but no cosplayers. Maybe today I’ll see a few. And no free liquir this year like they had last year, DAMN!

There was a joystick where you could play a fighting game with a floor pad by you punching and kicking yourself. The game they had was a weapon based 3D fighter, I’m not exactly sure which fighter it was though. There was something similar where you used a floor pad to work out with Jackie Chan.

Sony’s booth was for Sony Online. They were strongly hyping Everquest II and giving out free Demo Discs, and there was someone cosplaying as one of the characters (I think Antonia?) named Anna Winnscot, signing autographs and taking pictures.

At some point I got a free NBA 2k6 Soundtrack Mix CD. Free Magazines, flyers as usual and a Star Wars Battle Front II Button.

Finally Hope Partlow performed, the first ever performance at Digital Life. I sat there and watched the whole thing. Um, I’m not a big fan of Pop Music but it was towards the end of the show, it’s kind of free with the purchase of the ticket and… well… she’s not ugly… She played 4 songs off her new album.

That’s it for Day 1. About to leave my house and kick off Day 2. :karate:

Just got back today. The first booth i visited was the SNK booth to pick up a couple of posters (thanks for the rubberband tip btw). Ben Herman was there(the president of snk usa for those that dont know) and i had a few words with him. very few. Otherwise he and his gang looked kinda bored/pissed all day and just sat around doing nothing. THe KoF94 demo they had there was really slow AND glitchy. More people playing SSV. Lack of staff interaction and crappy demo made the SNK booth a forgettable one. And i love SNK too.

On a good note, i got a PAC-POP from Namco!!

[quote=no9176(thanks for the rubberband tip btw). [/quote]

Hey, no problem! They did look pissed all day. On Friday they were a bit more cheery. On Friday Michael Myers of the SNK booth was talking about how EGM gives big coverage to the bigger games dedicating 18 pages or so to them while SNK gets the shaft, as we all know already. The Japanese woman at the booth, about every game I asked about, KOF MI2, NGBC. and SVC CFC for the DS all I really got was “It’s coming. It’s coming. It’s coming.” She seemed more familiar with the Japanese dates of some of the games, I suppose all is TBD. On the plus side, they did have two working joysticks for Sam Sho V unlike yesterday so we did get some 2 player comp! Also played some Marvel Nemesis yesterday which I pretty much snubbed the first day (have the game at home) for some more two player comp.

The rest of Saturday -

Saturday was way more packed than Friday. The lines to see Carmen Elektra and Redman were ridunkulous, I didn’t really bother. My friend took a picture of Carmen Elektra that I can share though once he E-Mails it to me. Today I heard Jessica Alba is coming, I’m not sure how true that is but another friend is a huge Jessica Alba fan so maybe he’ll get her picture.

I did happen to spot the games that were missing off of Sega’s list today, Shadow, Sonic Rush and Virtua Tennis. Sonic Rush was cool, 2D Sonic using both of the DS’s screens to make the level look that much bigger. I beat both of the levels available for play in the Demo version. Didn’t get to play Shadow since it was pretty popular. The Demo verison at the show seemed to be before Shadow gets his gun. Oh, and I beat the Phantasy Star Universe Demo at the show! The final Demo Boss is a huge knight. You have to protect a scientist dude, at the end you are treated to an FMV were you meet an Evil Boss type and he uses his telekinetic powers or what have you to kill the scientist without touchimg him. Oh and it’s Japanese dialog with subtitles, yippee!

Managed to play some of the Teen Titans game and that was also crowded. There is a fighter aspect to it a bit, once you beat the main villain you can turn on each other, up to 4players at the same time. With a huge number of characters from the show including Slade, this game is a whole lot of fun!

Over at Gametap, got up to the Fourth Level of Streets of Rage before croaking. Memories…

Managed to beat the King Kong Demo too. Snapped a Tyranosaures Rex’s mouth open heh heh!

I found out the new 3D Castlevania Game was at the show just before the show ended! Darn it, that’s going to be the first game I play today.

There were DC Comics cosplayers theres. Kind of LAME! Last year there were people dressed up as SF, KOF, Guilty Gear characters, Final Fantasy characters, etc. At least dress up as a Manga/Anime character or something. No offense to the DC guys but I expect that more at a comic book show than here especially sine the only DC game even featured at the show is Teen Titans and these guys were dressed up as Batman, DC comics Robin and not TT cartoon Robin and Flash. We haven’t had the NYC Big Apple Anime Fest in 2 years and this is all the cosplayer picture taking I get all year, you cosplayers get your ish together!!! I imagine after saying this Man Faye will heed the call and come right over, OH NO WHAT HAVE I DONE! Off to kick off the last day.

I went on Saturday and for a few hours on Sunday. On Saturday, I pretty much went around trying to get whatever freebies they had. Sunday I actually tried a few of the games like the new Castlevania and whatnot.

I must agree that the lack of free drinks was disappointing. The line to see Carmen Electra was insane, didn’t bother to get an autograph, though I was able to snap a picture as she was coming in. The line for Jessica Alba was just as bad. I saw about a ten second glimpse of her while I was on tip-toes. I was able to get an autograph and a photo with Stacy’s mom herself, Rachel Hunter, that was pretty cool I guess.

The reps at the SNK booth did look kind of bored on both days I went. That Falcoon poster they had though kicked ass. I should have grabbed more than one. I asked the lady there about MI2 and if it was coming to XBox, she didn’t seem too sure, said it was gonna be for PS2 and maybe XBox360. I asked her about the KoF anime and she said it was gonna be released on their website starting on December. I then asked if there were any plans for a DVD release of all episodes and she wasn’t too sure, she said they might pack it as an extra on MI2.

Sunday was good because I got to play some of the games that were too crowded before. Played the 3D Castlevania but I wasn’t too crazy about it. I got to play Shadow and he did have the gun in the demo, from a Gameplaying perspective it was fun shooting at people in a mascot game, lol! Didn’t know that the Virtua Fighter 2 on Gametap was VF2 for the Gameboy or something like that because it was 2D, never thought I’d be able to get 2D Fighter jollies at the show from VF2 lol!

Pictures coming up as soon as I fugure out how to get them out of my camera…

I created a thread in the General Forum of all the pics I took!

Annual OT Bump - Digital Life will be back this year in October so please come through if you’ll be in the NY area. So far we know that EA, Namco, Square Enix, Sony and Microsoft will be in the house so you’ll get to try out their games, for the cheap price of 12 bucks for 4 days - I got my ticket online, it was only six bucks! Will keep an eye out on the exhibitor list to see who else comes through.

I’m considering going this year, once again.

Second annual OT bump - The Digital Life Show this year was great, the best one ever! Thread with a bunch of pictures I took this year, there was some SF2, SFA1 and SFA3 in the house thanks to Gametap and even some SF Tournies! :lovin:

I was there as well. It’s too bad, we should have met up face to face.

Yeah, if you’re planning on going to the NY comic convention in February I’ll toss you a PM just before or something, we can hang!
