Nice to meet your Rolento. I’m the guy that hosts casuals every weekend. I’ll be sure to PM you directions in the next couple of days or so. I’m thinking the next meetup will be sunday. I’ll let you guys know for sure in a day or two.
In other news, the Tallahassee tournament that was supposed to be this saturday got changed the the 13th. These guys always hold awesome tournaments and they’re all pretty cool guys. I want to make every attempt to go and bring as many Gainesville people as I can. Check out the details here: [Aug 6, 2011] [Aug 6th 2011] North Florida Monthly Mayhem - SSF4AE & MvC3... (Tallahassee, FL)
i play tekken as my primary game, i just got together with these SRK guys right before i left gainesville for the summer. ive been up in atlanta since may and will be back in town august 21st. i play marduk as my primary character and lars as a secondary i’d consider myself very good at tekken so i hope you’re up for the challenge. yoou said your from miami, how far back did you play tekken? did you know trix, inca, waygamble, onistompa, danielphoenix, sinister? i used to live in west palm and i got my tekken start by playing those guys.
REALLY REALLY looking forward to having another tekken player in town, maybe we can convert some of these 2D heads (wink wink). i’m pretty trash at 2D games but i’m happy to play some SF4 just the same, fighting game fundamentals carry over and i feel i do ok against these guys for not ever really practicing SF.
will be getting in on SFxT when it comes out, looks like loads of fun.
i’d like to take place in the ranbats, but my schedule is so wonky, same with the meetups, earlier on weekends is better for me, likr 10 AM or later like after 9. so yeah its wierd, but i’ll be showing up whenever i can.
i have a great 27 inch CRT that you guys can use for the tournament regardless of if i’m able to make it or not. we’ll iron out the details later.
kAb (Adam, right?), I talked to Tekken Alex from Orlando and iirc he said that you play with the guys from O-town on PSN… care to give me a few tips? (I’m still ass at that game)
Welcome newer guys, our scene isn’t too strong compared to Orlando or Tampa but we’re dedicated. Tally has better players though and sometimes they come over for casuals.
Rob, I already sent my input to F11/whatever it’s called. But I forgot to say, try to add T6, HD Remix and the pedo games if you can.
its colin actually, but thats cool, i’m horrible with names as well.
tekken in one forum post is impossible but if i could give you some overall tips they would be…
learn how to properly space, back dash cancelling and SS are going to create lots of your openings set them up off of things with pushback or slight negative frames (0 to -6)
learn to break throws on reaction, 1,2, and 1+2 breaks all have a different arm animation that can be seen with practice. hard at first but pays off
juggles arent the whole game, they are important but dont over complicate it. have a wall carry juggle and an open field max damage juggle, maybe one that favors oki over damage.
tekken is a game of frames, much more so than street fighter. even if something is safe (-9 or under) it will still leave you at a hefty disadvantage unless its around -1 to -4. learning how to punish properly takes alot of time, knowing which moves to punish with your corresponding punisher just takes practice.
dont block low often. most of the big damage comes from mids. lows that launch are easily seeable, very few lows have frame adv on hit and the ones that do are ticky tack damage, so rather eat 15 of those than 2 mid launchers.
learn the oki game, getting up the wrong way will get you killed, in general back rolling is the worst thing you can do. side roll into get up or roll back is better.
thats about it for basics, if we’re at a gathering together hit me up for more in depth stuff. i’m happy to teach, i know basics with a ton of characters
Nice colin, it’ll help to have someone that knows the do’s and dont’s instead of us just winging it. I’ve practiced combos with characters so hopefully we can get into the more technical stuff.
you can try that if you want, it’ll only work against other newbs though. eddy mashing is not insta win contrary to what some may believe.
oh if anyone has the game on PS3 and wants to go over basics online, my PSN is kilikAbeast hit me up if you see me on otherwise i’ll see you guy when i get back.
i’m looking forward to getting the chance to show you guys that i’m not a scrub at everything
Yeah I primarily want to get better at Tekken, but never had the people in the past few years to get things going properly. My main in T6 is primarily Dragunov, though I use to flop around alot in T5 with Jack 5, Kazuya, and dont know who else. When T5 released on PS2 I played in a crew that might have been trix, inca, waygamble, onistompa, danielphoenix, or sinister but they didnt go by those names then… not sure since I lost touch with most of them. It was many moons ago which I don’t remember when exactly (when was T5 released on PS2?).
I’m in Gainesville for my masters degree in Digital Media (ie programmable fine arts).
Hit me up when you are in town. I’ll help other people train but I’m not so good about technique but know all the terms and how to do them mostly
Looking very much forward to SFxT but more to TTT2 right now… hoping to have a Dragunov/Jack-6 Team
I also might be able to lend my small 23inch monitor but am not sure since I may need it for some art installation work or for my new office >_<
Meetup at my place for casuals this sunday starting at 2:30 until whenever.
Colin! Nice to see you around again.
Also it would be cool if someone brought an extra ps3. Usually AE is on the 360, marvel on the ps3. I got the TVs/monitors, but I’ll need a third if you guys want tekken too.
Finally, first post has been updated to include info from my massive tournament announcement from last page. Any subsequent announcements will be included there from here on out as well so you guys won’t have to read each and every page for the newest info.
Holy shit, I need to check this thread more often. I have work Sunday but I will try and make it for games after. Also, you can borrow my asus monitor for your tourney thing if you need it Rob. It is the old Evo 09 version.
I would be down to try and learn some Tekken. I picked up T6 for cheap the other week but haven’t played it much due to lack of time/ playing by myself gets boring. I want to be the sumo wrestler or maybe Heihachi.
Don’t feel bad Mike. Playing Dave made me rage so hard I broke my ps3. The yellow light of death was just a cover story.
Also, 18 days until 3sOE. Getting ready for hammer mountain bitches!
