I posted earlier talking about the rough lines I imagined firebrand’s combos to go and Clockwork seems to have been thinking like I have been based on he seems to have developed. Check in this video the combo that firebrand starts on sentinel at 1:30. Air series, ground bounce, relaunch, air series, wall bounce, relaunch, limited air series xx fire breath finisher. Might be worth checking the damage that he gets on sentinel with that (who at the very worst has to have at least average health…right?)
That doesn’t look like shabby damage in the slightest to me.
So seeing as this thread isn’t that lively I’m going to go a bit off topic here but here it goes my Overview on Fire Brand.
Fire Brands positives.
Quick, Flight mode, Air dash(two?), air projectile that can OTG, slide, dive kick, small, and a power up super (Safe DHCs)
Neutrals
Human projectile, not so amazing normals, and not very damaging to DHC in to, decent assists
Negatives
Low health, low situation level 3, and a slow OTG. No get off me move
To me FB sounds like a standard rush down character. From footage I’ve seen he could be a pretty decent assist character with the OTG fireball or the Swoop, I’m thinking it may avoid happy birthdays but not too sure. I my eyes I think he’s going to be played as an anchor a majority of the time for reasons like, he can combo off his throw without an assist, I remember him OTGing by himself, and I think he can deal with push blocking well with his air dash or psycho crusher move. I also think FB can do a go bit of keep away with the right assists and his flight mode. The problem I see with him is hm not having a get off me move, and I think GOM assists will appear less in the new version. Also I don’t see him winning rush down vs rush down battles because of his not so Godlike normals, without assists over course. I also don’t think he’s mix ups are that good, but I haven’t seen them so who am I to judge. Despite this I think FB will be one of the better characters because he looks pretty versatile and looks like he can be the glue to some people’s teams.
I think his assists are bad beyond combo extension, and how good it is to DHC into him depends on your team (Tenrai Ha to Dark Fire seems like a good idea). It’s definitely not versatile, though.
I think his health is ~900K, which is roughly average in this game.
Most characters don’t have a legitimate “get off me” move - I don’t think this is a particular issue for Firebrand.
I agree his mixups are not strong. I think what will make Firebrand a solid character is his ability to be persistently annoying and hard to gain sustained momentum on.
I’m looking to main this guy. I like everything I’ve seen with him, I really don’t get what his assist super does. I haven’t seen anything from the mini firebrand flying around.
From what I’ve seen its pretty much a version of kitty helper with more options. I believe one button causes it to fire a projectile, one causes a swoop that I hope is an overhead and one causes it to perform that psycho crusher type move he has. It definitely has a lot of potential. Oh and word on the street is viewtiful joe can dhc out of his slow down hyper now, I was thinking how dirty would it be if you dhc out of that into firebrands speed up hyper. That could lead to some dirty stuff.
Yea its a level 3, hopefully capcom balance it out properly so it doesn’t end up too good or just plain shitty ala deadpools lvl 3. Yea vale of mist to speed up super will work very well actually, and since vale of mist lasts for a significant amount of time you can still call out ammy for some nice mix-ups and shit. Who you planning on running on anchor? Or you gonna wait till we can see who the top tier assists are gonna be this time around before you pick your anchor?
right now I have high hopes for Nova so I plan on him, but it could change once I get my hands on the game, I want my team to have some strong synergy. But I expect him to be powerful and be a good anchor with lvl 3 XF, I hope he has some decent health and assist.
Ah I see, true say, at least for now he doesn’t seem to have much.
lol yea Im hoping nova is everything I expect him to be, at the moment most of the assists are a little underwhelming so im hoping nova/rr/phoenix wright and frank west bring some flavor to the assist collection. Nova in particular though Im hoping has a substantial amount of health cause most of the newbies have sub 1 mill health(or at least they appear to have sub 1 mill health)
I might use him with Nemmy since his assists have armor on them(IIRC).
I think him and nemmy will be paired often. I can see DHCs from Wall Destroyer to Speed Up and comboing off the stagger states with Bon Voyage. And the ground fireball can extend Nemesis’s combos a bit and maybe open up a reset involving Nemmy’s Anti Air grab. I can prolly put someone in the back like Doom or Gouki for a good assist anchor.
The damage scales horribly because Bon Voyage does like 12 hits while you’re dragging your opponent across the ground. That’s why you use Bon Voyage like how Dante uses his wall bounce: it’s a move you put in your combos when hitstun deterioration is running high.
Firebrand can relaunch without Bon Voyage; his dive kick causes a ground bounce. c.LMHS, sj.MMH, d.H, fly-cancel, s.S, sj.MMH, Bon Voyage works. I don’t know what he can do after Bon Voyage, that’s something we’ll have to learn.
My theoretical day one combo:
sj.MMH, d.H, fly-cancel, s.S, sj.MMH, Bon Voyage, call Dark Hole + Swoop, j.S, Dark Fire
Also, Seth Killian revealed something Firebrand can do that has yet to be done with him: wall cling.
Okay, sounds stupid right? Apparently while clung to the wall, Firebrand can shoot fireballs off at various angles. It wasn’t entirely clear to me, but from what Seth said, it sounded like Firebrand can shoot a fireball with just the press of a button, and you’re sort of supposed to use it with his level 3 since one button = one attack with the helper, and then you’re shooting fireballs at various angles as well.
From what I saw Clockwork do he was doing another launch after Bon Voyage, then j.H to Dark Fire. I think after the Bon Voyage is actually a good time to end the combo with Luminous Body and lock the opponent into the corner with assists, since Bon Voyage drags your opponent all the way to the corner. Firebrand builds meter during Luminous Body, right? If you can get a lockdown assist and a low assist, you lock them into the corner first. After that, if they jump a lot you go for the airthrow into a corner combo. If they stick to the ground, you go for a fast unblockable with your fly mode and a low assist.
I really wanna know more about the damage output on Dark Fire, though. I mean if it does a lot of damage then it could be a better option to take the damage instead of the powerup (since ultimately the opponent will be in the corner anyway).
