GA Thread Vol #2: Kingz of the Verbal Beat Down,Home to Gross Noobs and wanna be OG's

Yo man call ya brotha for a change, I need a training partner in person, ace coming up next weekend cause we going to WRRRRRRRRRRRRRRASSSSTTTTTTTLLLLLLLEEE MANIIIIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

So, while you guys talk about sentinel and nerfs.

I need to get a general idea on where Georgia’s community as a whole would stand on a (hate to call it this, because it is but it really isn’t) documentary on GA’s gaming culture, its players, and its history? I’ve been messing around with the idea for a few months now, and i’m curious to know if the community would be behind it.

But im lazy…

What day are you talking about? I’m still kinda mad now.

It’d be hard to do a history without a good amount of bias behind it. It’s about the same way with the Cali scene. Anytime someone talks about the history everything is a little slanted and biased. Especially when Schaefer or Jason Cole is involved. A few years ago when I was arguing with Shin Blanka and Iceman, they made it seem as if only the Southlake game room was the definitive source for competition in GA. But of course there were other good places to play. And these places have been gone for at least 10 years. It’s pretty much a lost history that’ll only be recalled through people’s sketchy memories.

Iceman Palms Face

I have been working on this Docu for years, if you want to collab that’s fine but I’ve been working on this Docu for years.

I take a large amount of pride in it and get very salty when I see/hear people talking about it or doing something similar to it because I’ve stated all over the place i am working on it, which was the reason for the 55 interviews yadda yadda yadda.

I have match video dating back to late 2002, interviews are sketchy but we got alot of the family back from the old days so now it will be easier to get certain games taken care of, the main issue has been copyrights etc. Corrupted Minds Entertainment/Impact Players Productionz is legit, the other organizations we have associated with (Tournament Organizers etc) are not
I cam currently working on new beats for this docu since I stupidly placed beats onto Final Round’s DVD, we are working on a legit soundtrack etc-etc

JDash when are your off days, also Malik wants to rape you in melty blood bro (I’m just saying yo,that’s what he said lol)
Also I am sorry your stuff,Deadly Rave Neo and Jason L’s stuff came up missing, that is why we cover our tracks and go thru such measures to make sure that shit doesn’t transpire at an Impact Crew Organized Tournament

@branh

Sometimes, in my own opinion, “lost history” documentaries make up for a more entertaining watch in the long run. I wouldn’t want to watch a documentary where everything is cemented fact and everything was written down unless i’m in school trying to learn something. Lol.

@Iceman

Oh, sorry I didn’t know. The only reason I have been thinking about it anyway is because i’m so tired of the south getting overlooked all the fucking time in these gaming documentaries. Its like we just don’t exist, and when the top players from other states are here (like Cali @ Final Round this year) its like they don’t give a fuck at all that this is our ground. I know, it kind of sounds territorial, but they make sure WE know where we are when we go out of state but act like its another day at the office when they’re here.

I might not be one of them yet, but GA has some amazing players and a very unique gaming culture that deserves a lot more respect and exposure. Good luck with your project Iceman.

Cool Breeze:

This is why I love the GA thread. I don’t know of many top players who don’t use sent. Do you? The only ones I know of are Jwong, PR Rog, and Combofiend. The ones that do use him are too many. Some examples I know of are:

Floe, Clockwork, almost everyone from EMP, Mike Ross, Eddie aka Bananas, etc. Look at the final round top 16. I believe that 12 or 13 of them had sentinel.

Why do I keep referring to Sagat? Because Sagat was the most frequently played and most frequently placed in top 10 in vanilla SF4. Just like how Sentinel now is the most frequently played and most frequently placed in top 10 at MVC3.

Lets discuss character popularity. Why is a character popular? Is it because sentinel looks cool? Is it because sentinel makes cool noises or has cool moves? That is an ABSOLUTE NO! Sentinel is popular because of his assist, health, and over the top comeback factor. So should a character be nerfed based on popularity? Ask yourself why sentinel is popular and you will see the answer is yes.

I understand that every character has viable options one on one against sentinel. But same could be said for all characters vs all characters one on one combinations. But not all characters have instant overheads that can lead to combos vs sentinel one on one. Also, when you land an instant overhead it is usually with an assist to cover you because sentinel’s special beats out naked instant overheads.

Yes sentinel has a huge hit box in exchange for his massive damage output. That is fair in my opinion.

Let’s talk about legit super armor. In MVC2 all super armor gets broken by jumping fierce or roundhouse. In MVC2, sentinel does standing roundhouse which has super armor and magneto comes in with jumping roundhouse or triangle jump roundhouse, sentinel loses to it. In MVC3, you come in with a jump fierce, sentinel hits you out of it with medium or special. So for certain rush down characters that do not have good keep away such as c. viper for example, has no chance of beating sentinel.

Crouching medium and special are not slow moves. I guess most people have god like reaction speed because I sure can’t react to them. You say you can teleport and punish. Well that holds true for any whiff by any character. But to say you can react to the whiff and teleport is a hard pill to swallow. Good players don’t just spam c.medium and special in hopes you get hit by it. They see you dash in, jump in, teleport in, etc. then they hit the button.

Top players don’t use sentinel and win tournaments??? Where did you get this from. Like I said above, floe, clockwork, eddie, etc. all use sentinel. Top players do win tournaments with sentinel. Just because you don’t hear or see videos of these tournaments don’t mean they don’t win. I want to know this list of top players other than Jwong, Combofiend, and PR Rog. I assure you that almost 75% to 80% of top players use sentinel on their team which is an alarming amount.

Sentinel can’t catch 70% of the runaway characters? I might agree with that but when he does he wreaks havoc. Also, his air hyper move is projectile invincible. Very quick and viable way to get in. Definitely if the sentinel player predicts correctly when the opponent shoots his/her projectile, sentinel’s instant air hyper will hit and allow him to combo afterwards. Sometimes one good guess is all it took for sentinel to destroy whole teams.

Sentinel can be predictable because of the damage he does. It doesn’t take a scientist to play sentinel. A solid game plan will get you that one hit you need to do 60 to 80% life non x factored while you can take 300,000 points of damage before you reach the average life mark. With 1.3 mil points of life, when you x factor you gain all your red bar which means for example, an inch of red bar for ryu would be like 200k points while an inch of red bar for sentinel would be almost 300k points. Did sentinel need a health nerf? ABSOLUTE YES in my honest opinion.

Hitting sentinel during his assist doesn’t stop his drones??? I beg to differ. When the drones are on the screen, if you hit sentinel the drones magically disappear. The drones could be in the middle of the screen, when sentinel gets hit during his assist the drones go away.

Dr. Dooms missiles is another story and I am not saying anything in terms of “I support sent’s nerfs and support doom’s missiles too.” I am discussing my agreement with sentinel’s nerf only.

I agree with SSJGeorgeBush aka Raph and Forte. Raph is a little more eloquent in his point than I am. lol. But they get the picture in high level play.

I don’t mean to make anyone mad. I hope my point has been expressed intelligently.

The only person that I recall being consistent with Sagat in vanilla was Mago. Sagat didn’t win at all here in america. His issues were apparent early, but capcom gave it almost two years to flesh that out. Only a few things were discovered that could deal with him so yes, he became popular plus he was slightly broke so he had to be addressed.

The Sentinel/Spencer stuff barely got to see the light of day before it was “fixed”. As some of us continued to improve, Sentinel’s threat started to go down greatly. Oh well, I guess I’ll just enjoy massacring slow ass, simple to block Sentinel with 100% non-Xfactor combos from Wolverine from now on.

Sentinel’s popularity is largely because of his advantage currently. But as time goes on and we learn to better deal with it, I’m sure thing’s would of fallen in place like it did with other characters in past games.

To sum it up Cola, IMO:

Sagat’s problems were given a great deal of time to play out, but MvC3’s “problems” aren’t even given adequate time to be solved by us, the players.

Anyone that doesn’t understand this needs to stop playing fighting games and let those of us that don’t want capcom to cup our balls while they suck our dicks actually push these games further than the developers intended, though I am sure that this time, we are going to continue to get a very nice nailed down every combo was written down on paper and then MADE to work in game - type of game.

Cyber, I definitely see your point. But as I was saying, Sagat may not have won a lot but he was consistently in the top 10 in almost every tournament in the early times of Vanilla. Sometimes Sagat took many of the top ten spots in the early Vanilla era.

I believe Sagat was slightly changed pretty early after the console version came out. But those changes were almost negligible and Sagat still did well in most tournaments. I believe SF4 was the first console fighting game Capcom had a chance to update so I believe it was a slow process. Now things may be speeding up.

I agree that the sentinel stuff barely got to see the light of day before it was fixed. I would disagree though on sentinel’s threat going down greatly as the players improved. Sentinel’s threat isn’t really based on his abilities as a character that has everything such as Sagat from Vanilla. Sentinel’s threat is based on one combo deaths with x factor and his crazy comeback strength. And actually, none of that got nerfed. The only thing that got nerfed was his health. To be honest, nothing was “fixed.” His armored normals weren’t fixed, his damage output wasn’t fixed, his x factor damage wasn’t fixed. Only his health is reduced to below average.

Spencer on the other hand was a weird fix. I don’t know much about his loop though so I will not comment on it.

Thats the after effect that comes from GA players not traveling to majors though. You can’t really blame them for pretending GA players don’t exist when in the past we haven’t been traveling really and proving their point. I think/hope this will be changing soon though.

Besides this is only for the Capcom side of things. if you know anything about the U.S. Tekken history, ATL basically owns the majority of that shit and you can reverse everything you just said about territories lol.

This is CyberIKEuma:lol:

@Cola_man

Which is why a health nerf is weird. His damage should of been toned down instead and not his life. In my opinion Sentinel has mobility, but it can be locked down easily and in turn his life balanced that out.

All in all, I just think it’s too early to be messing with stuff right now. I respect your opinion though, definitely.

tourney organizers could just go willynilly & run unpatched

tho i hate the boltbucket, health cut was too drastic for sent
its not an issue of “because hes popular”… he is(was?lol) popular **because ** hes so powerful/former high health

& i hope they do fix the dhc dmg reset… bad programming that caters to only certain chars/teams

but yeah, i dunno why they felt the need to change spencers M followup to jcc high grapple. yes, in effect that does stop the loop… tho ive never even seen it outside of a couple short combo vids.

essentially all they did was ruin a beautiful setup for my fav advanced spencer+morri non-loop combo :annoy:

edit also, now that spencer goes up to meet the launched opponent, he falls back to the ground along side them as they reel & it causes A DUMB AS FUCK LOOKING LIL LEG WIGGLE ANIMATION to fill the freefall time. it looks absolutely awkward&retarded :bluu:

Every place beside Cali and NYC is basically ignored. Think about Season’s Beatings. I’m sure Jwong don’t go to Season’s Beating and be like “I fear those local Columbus, OH” players. Even Evo, I’m sure the Alex Valles, Sanfords, Jwongs, and Combofiends aren’t worried about Las Vegas locals. Sure there are solid players in any city who have a bit of hype nationally, but if you aren’t in LA or NYC you don’t matter. Peeps who travel are people from DEtroit, but no one is scared of the Detroit scene. Even if Wolfkrone been raising hell in majors, no one is willing to say Detroit is solid. And these guys are at nearly every East Coast major like NEC, Final Round, ETC, etc. Who is making any noise about them?

Florida has a great scene, but the public image of Florida is “all they have is Flash Metroid, the rest suck”. It will just be hard if not impossible to break down the bias of NYC and Cali. Until ATL starts getting 5 out of 8 top spots at Evo people will just consider it a fluke, or contribute placements to individual players and not the entire scene.

i don’t agree with this. most of the cast is less mobile and easier to lock down than Sentinel, and they had WAY less life than him. Just sayin’…

And in the Docu we will speak on this in length.
The U.S. was practically taught by former ATL Players, leaving here, moving to Virginia,Texas,Ohio,NY,NJ, Cali so forth and so on!!
Plenty of ATL Names in the top rankings at previous evo’s within tekken.

Cola Man I am not mad at you bro, what you typed made sense and I am not shitting on you, we just agree to disagree a bit that’s all

I definitely respect everyone’s opinions and don’t want to shoot anyone down. Ike, Marty, Iceman, etc. This is just something that can only be based on mostly opinion now because like many said, the game is still too young. Hopefully hulk will receive a similar nerf. :badboy: j/k.

Hey marty, where can i find information in Superman’s immortality or lack there of??

hopefully wesker will too… not jk :badboy:
