I’m sure I’ve played MVC2 longer than you. Just because you probably came around in 2007, watched some Evo vids and practiced combos on dreamcast doesn’t mean YOU’RE qualified. I played MVC2 from the release of the game in arcades, where were you at the time? I may not have been a top MVC2 player because I didn’t really take the game seriously until 2006, and that was only to become good at the underground. I still never practiced the game for years. But I know enough about the game mechanics to have and INFORMED opinion.
You can ask anyone that knows me. I am NOT from the youtube generation. I been playing the vs series since day 1 in arcades. Just because I didn’t hang around yo dumbass does in NO WAY mean I watched vids and learned. I was playin burnt copies for DC before you even HEARD of altering color schemes and music. YOU as I have stated before are NOT QUALIFIED to rag on someone about a game where ur basic skill is UP+BACK. I wasn’t playin with Max and Joe and Jason back then, because I was in the training room 24/7 and I just plain didn’t KNOW them. I WASN’T a social person back then. There’s combos I’ve CREATED that people can’t even do I just don’t showcase the shit. So to even have YOU say that is a GREAT INSULT. And yes it is pathetic to PAY FOR SEX.
I made a proper rebuttle to whatever post Iceman copied and pasted. Whomever the arthor is has tons of holes in his argument. One thing that was so bad is how he just arbitarily mention things like OTG or comboing after a flyscreen. He talked about it like it was a problem in MVC3, but acknowledged the SAME thing is in MVC2 but it was just harder to do. So is this guy’s argument centered around execution only? He never states it, but heavily emphasizes it.
Fine if execution is what people believes make a game, that’s cool. But then again there are a lot of high level tactics in MVC2 that required NO exeuction whatsoever. Team Watts was not a high execution team, but it was a really good team with a strong zoning gameplan. And this is another thing, keep away is by far worse in MVC3 than it was in 2. Not only could you stay away all day and STILL build meter (hence giving you an advantage for taking passive actions against your opponent), but you could lame it out and keep away wasn’t THAT hard to do.
So then there was button scheme as if less buttons mean less options. Yet MVC3 STILL has a 4 button scheme, albeit with a launch specific button, but it still has the same amount of attack buttons. Once may argue that on the ground despite you ducking or holding back you also get the same attack. But then again he totally ignores the fact that Marvel is not a game centered around normals. There were tons of useless normals in MVC2, and they were simply segways to cancels and advance movements.
Movement options are still the same in MVC3, and some characters have better movment like Trish who has an airdash AND a double jump. And a lot of characters movement have improved like Wolverine and Spiderman. But of course the biggest aspect of MVC2 was movment, yet he never talked about it. While trijumps aren’t as abusable, they obviously needed to be nerfed anyway. They still exist, and high/low mixups are still a big thing in this game. I wish crossups worked better, but it’s not that big of a deal.
My point is that there are holes all over this guy’s post. He talks about buttons layouts and options, but there is no real correlation between buttons layouts and options. Games like VF has a 3 button layout, and there is still much complexity. So button layout within itself isn’t a real issue of complexity, it’s the implementation. something he NEVER talked about.
And of course easier execution is just a convienient crutch that he leans on anytime he got himself too deep in his own self gratifying rhetoric. A really poorly formed argument.
Of course you agree with it and probably think he’s on the money just because you’d blindly agree with any criticism of MVC3, no matter how poor constructed or idiotic it is.

I don’t agree with him JUST because I don’t like the game. Yes he left holes, but he also had GOOD points. Someone bashes MVC2 it’s ok, but someone simply disagrees with MVC3 and everyone is quick to try and jump on em.
This is wrong, I’m just being objective. Honestly, I don’t have the drive to really practice or play MVC3 like I should. I think it’s a fun game, and I think there is tons more to be explored in the game. But I haven’t had the strength to turn on my TV and PS3 and actually play it.
There is also a lot I don’t like about the game. Safe supers being one of them, defense not being rewarded is another. The game is also really mashy and it PROMOTES fishing,one of my biggest pet peeves about any game. It’s one of the main reasons I really have a distaste for 3s because it’s a huge fishing game. It’s another reason why some aspects of SSFIV annoys me because people fish a lot in that game too. I think fishing is the noobiest thing in a game. It discurages a dynamic mindset and definite discourages thinking. MVC3 really promotes this because I see cr.a all day in the game.
The lack of real meter management and the lack of payoff for zoning annoys me too. Whenever I do decide to play the game online, I can totally outplay someone, but he’s always sitting on 3 or 4 meters, and burns about 3 or 4 in a match. Why does he always have more meter, because MVC3 rewards you for just mashing buttons constantly. So there is no reward to a thoughtful zoning game. Zoning is done in a much more intelligent way in MVC2, and it had the same rewards as rushdown. It was a perfect balance of the two styles, which I like in a game. In MVC3 they FORCE you to play a certain way.
The thing that annoys me about MVC3 is the sacrifices to strategic depth by nerfing things like keep away and zoning, while giving the ultimate reward to brainless rushdown. For me, there is a LOT of lucky stuff that happens in MVC3.
Still with that said, it’s an okay game to me. I definitely think people who constantly criticize it really just nitpick at it, which isn’t fair. The game definitely needs time to evolve, and it is really fun. Its really cheap, frustrating, annoying, and lame, which is pretty much how every versus game is. And I do think it would be a fun game to explore, I just need to get the motivation to practice it more often.

My altogether opinion is MVC3 is fun, but less of a pro level. MVC2 is more hype and more technical. And Spooky forreal? I’d support findin a blind bitch and makin her believe you Denzel rather than payin for some pussy.
