while I think khaosdragon isn’t really expressing his opinion very well, I do see where he is coming from when saying the game has similarity to blazblue. The game’s system is much more similar (left/right air teching and rolling, hitstun scaling, how the damage scaling works, damage proration on throw combos, loop specific hitstun scaling etc.). Many people such as I in my area who played Blazblue with Raph for a little while (not at his level of course but we did play it) have expressed a Blazblue type feel from the game, including Raph himself.
the transition from Guilty Gear to Blazblue is very similar to the transition from MvC2 to 3.
i also know what he’s talking about saying it is more broken than mvc2.
let’s compare what happens in both games when sentinel land’s his frying pan attack (j.hp in mvc2, j.s in mvc3) air to air:
mvc3: he 100%s you off an impossible to not hit confirm ground bounce that lasts a million years, he gets this no matter if he’s at super jump height or normal jump height
mvc2: at normal jump height:

he is UNSAFE ON HIT.
at super jump height he gets that 1 j.hp and that’s it, no unsafeness, that’s it.
in mvc2 to land big damage combos you have to be really on your shit.
But really okay so the game is different. Us mvc2 players have to vent our feelings because a lot of us waited a long time for this. i mean shit, my main fucking characters got left out of the game (megaman and cable). the system is very different and honestly pretty much everything i truly loved about marvel 2 is gone. I like having to pay your red life for a DHC, I liked tagging out being very high risk but leading to a free combo, I liked resets in the mvc2 sense where you had no left/right teching and they were much faster, I liked being able to airdash cancel on whiff, I liked being able to cancel normals to tag out, I liked the OTG system and the rolling system, I liked the pushblock guard cancels, I liked the switch glitch, I liked not being able to jump before the match starts, I liked tagging out in small gaps in a string being very difficult, I liked sentinel not having this hyper armor bullshit he has on this game, I liked sentinel being fast, I never liked him doing that much damage off like 3 hits and they only increased his damage what the hell, I liked that the game was filled with awful options not just good ones so that choices were meaningful unlike this game where it seems like everything is good, I liked antiair assists actually functioning, I liked dr. doom being able to wavedash, I liked whiffing normals to build meter, I liked being able to fast fly, I liked reflies, I liked airthrow resets and airthrow infinites, I liked that people turned around in super jump mode, I liked guard breaks, I liked that if someone threw a fireball while normal jumping they couldn’t block on the way down, I liked that the game felt so low quality that it was good hitting the spot like some waffle house at 3am, i liked that you couldn’t airdash by double tapping, i liked that you didn’t have input shortcuts so that if you backdash and then try to do QCB you dont get RDP motion, i liked that the system didnt hand characters all their combos on a platter and instead just gave every char a million tools and you had to put it together yourself, I liked the y-boost system, i liked how motion felt, I liked how every day you played the game something new happened but that has already stopped happening to me on mvc3, i liked how pushblock didnt negate chip damage, i liked there being no comeback mechanics so that something like the justin vs josh360 mattered, i liked turtling not being so passive, i liked there not being characters like x-23 and zero who seemed to be designed with “this tool does this mixup” etc vs chars like mags who were just given a set of tools and those turned out to be very good for rushdown (emergent properties and all), i liked the amount of ridiculous “you must be this tall to ride” signs in mvc2 for noobs (doom jump back fierce, sent mouthbeam xx drones, ruby heart waterfall trap, etc), i liked the emphasis on DHCs in combos for big damage, I liked that not everyone had a speedup super, I liked supers where you couldn’t do anything after the flash (AHVB), i liked the emphasis on tiger knee’d motions, i liked being able to cancel launchers into things, i liked sweep into launcher not fucking existing, i liked having to dash in after landing a jumpin, i liked being able to control the distance that pushblock pushed, i liked not having horrendous hitbox glitches, i liked sent not having a double jump, i liked not having hitstun scaling ruin every cool combo idea i have, i liked the amount of freedom the combo system gave, i liked being able to punish assist while they are taunting, i liked snap outs lasting longer, i liked being able to call assist or tag out when the previous char has died, i liked being able to dhc while an assist is on the screen, etc
its okay if you don’t like mvc3 but it doesnt remotely feel like a sequel to mvc2 other than having 3 characters on team, assists, and a related cast. and pretty much every character that returned plays completely differently. While people might complain about SF4, on SF4 sagat still is sagat, ryu is still ryu, etc. On MvC3 mags is no longer a pure rushdown character, iron man is even more boring (how the hell did they do that to a char i hated already), akuma even though he needed to be buffed is also extremely dumbed down, they removed everything i loved about sentinel and made him do more damage which i hated about him in the first place. Dr. Doom doesn’t do the wavedashing lights into shit anymore… in fact i was extremely hyped about playing dr. doom on 3 only to be extremely disappointed that he plays nothing like how he used to. ryu is nerfed from mvc2 except for having safer on block shinkuu hadouken (WTF?). i was ready to play tron but they took out her iad fake “triangle jump” that now ZERO has instead but i wanted it with her moveset.
pretty much the only returning character they left intact was Wolverine.
the funny thing is that there is a TON of things on MVC2 that I FUCKING HATE. and guess what they kept most of it on mvc3 but took out everything i liked.
its not a sequel to the game i love. and i feel like if you played marvel 2 you have the right to complain about the game because it is supposed to be a sequel. don’t get me wrong, it is a decent game but it is marvel vs capcom in the same way that kayo police is a woman…
Iggy and CyberAkuma: I remember you two telling me you didnt like MvC2 because it was too broken… yet you like MvC3?
MvC2 players: Bama has decided will start playing MvC2 again after final round, I hope that y’all will be willing to play some.
