$132 million worldwide Easter weekend. Looks like this movie will probably get a sequel. I’m down for it.

So would you recommend watching it at all? I didn’t have too much expectations since the first movie. 
i do, i had alot of fun and im a fan of the cartoon and comics. you can tell they did their research to try and merge alot of the elements from resolute, the cartoon and the comics. but remember its a kids movie…dont take it too too seriously.
Except for the movie treating almost everyone from G.I. Joe 1 like a girl James Bond slept with and forgetting about them lol it was alright. I give it 3 and 1/2 G.I. Joe Street Fighter toys out of 5.
I watched the first one last nyte in anticipation of seeing the second one this afternoon…and honestly, I liked several members of the cast…I liked the casting for the black folks (sorry I don’t know much in the way of GI Joe names or mythos…way to forgetable looking…bad guys looked so much cooler), Scarlett had potential though I didn’t like the relaitonship angle they built up - turning her into a school girl…I mean really the casting was fine IMO in the first one, the problem was more related to scripting and directing…and uhm Gorden Levitt I think his name is…he was horrid…but again, I think thats more a factor of scripting and direction.

I think it’s just a continuity thing. You had several Joe’s that were in the first one that do not even get a mention in the sequel. It leaves a bad taste.
To answer your question, it would have been nice if General Hawk, Heavy Duty, and yes, Cover Girl and Ripcord came back (even to die, I don’t care). Also, any way they can write the Baroness back as a villian would be appreciated - even if she was with Cobra at the start of this movie and no one (not even Duke) questions it…On a side note: if there could be only one thing in G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra that I could get rid of, it would be making the Baroness turn good. So fucking stupid.
Overall, to me, G.I. Retaliation is a pretty shitty G.I. Joe movie, but as a movie, it’s dumb fun. As long as I could take away how it butchers the G.I. Joe mythos (which is easy for me, because I wasn’t a big G.I. Joe fan as a kid), it was enjoyable (and most of the credit goes to The Rock, the rest to Jonathan Price and the mountainside action set piece)
As for the sequel, they should either do my 2nd favorite G.I. Joe character, Serpentor, or just reboot the whole damn thing.
that was clearly done on a higher up level, of trying to erase the bad taste they felt from the first movie. even though most people were that mad about the first movie. hasbro as a company must have not been pleased.

Any G.I.Joe movie with that inexplicably overpowered meathead in it is one I refuse to see…even if Serpentor is in it.
Yeah, something that Hasbro did in in the comics and cartoon to sell more toys. They did the same thing with Transformers (a tradition that may continue in TF4).
This movie sucked. Whatever happened to clever writing and a straight forward, coherent plot? The jokes were dumb, the fights were boring, and the ninjas were basically Shredder’s foot soldiers in red. But it was something to watch at the movies until the big ones come out, I guess.

I e3njoyed it. It was a step in the right direction, but I STILL don’t understand the ‘plot’, I’m unhappy with the bad guy deaths, and help me out with something.
I thought they delayed it because people liked Duke…so they wrote him back into the story…I never saw him come back. So what did they actually change?

Felt that the movie should of brought the real plot (nuclear dominance) MUCH closer to the beginning…Bruce Willis seemed like he was auditioning for RED 2; dumb fun, yes…good movie…blah
Also…why did Destro get written off sooooo badly??? Seemed like they threw him in at the last second, “Shit…we forgot about Destro…hell, he will die in the prison…check and check”.
My feeling is that since in the first film, Destro was the leader of the bad guys who was usurped by CC at the end. If Destro were to be revived in this movie, he would not just take orders blindly and would fight CC for control.
More likely, Im thinking the writers or studio want to do a 3rd film as a Destro/Baroness centric movie with them as their own faction and perhaps coming into conflict with Cobra and joes together. Destro had his own army Iron Grenadiers in late 80s with the Gold mask IIRc.
Being injured in the prison escape could give them an excuse to improve his appearance like they did with CC in this film as well as recast if they need to.
Ah don’t recast Destro, Christopher Eccleston is a great actor.
