I’m choosing to take this as a compliment.
If not being able to appreciate any nuance beyond whether they are game or not is a compliment to you, then sure.
Sent from my HTC Thunderbolt using SRK Technology.
Almost spit out my drink laughing.
dude, plz make sense. like holy shit.
Nintendo stopped caring IMO they slowly realized they can half ass their way to a millions over and over.Indie developers are doing Nintendo better than Nintendo these days .None of the big three are ambitious anymore.
Nobody’s overlooking Nintendo’s handheld/Pokemon stuff, it’s the consoles that have problems.
Just talking to people everyday, New Super Mario Bros is the hands down favorite for most Wii players, because it’s Mario World with multiplayer. Mario Galaxies are using the same basic template as Mario 64. Quality games, sure, but it’s the nostalgia trip of playing Mario World or Mario 64 again more than anything else. Twilight Princess was nice because of the welcome return to the Ocarina of Time vibe versus Wind Waker’s visual design, but it’s all the same, or in the Wii’s case, slighted for a for casual accessibility…
Animal Crossing Cubes get a lot better reception than the Wii version
Metroid Prime 3 was okay, let’s not talk about the Other M debacle, but would you take MP3 over Prime or Echoes?
Would anyone choose to play PokePark over the Pokemon Coliseums?
Nobody seems to hold Smash Brawl in the same regard as N64 Smash or Melee.
Mario Kart Double Dash or Mario Kart Wii?
Having a great 1st party lineup doesn’t mean shit if the drop off beyond them is so severe it’s painful trying to find anything else to play. Console exclusives might be nice to brag about for fanboys, but for most developers, committing to one system is financial suicide in this market. Look at the repeated whining from the Heavy Rain developer. Game came out 3 years ago and the guy still won’t shut the fuck up about it not selling well.
I loved the shit out of Brawl. Regardless of how shitty people say it is for tournaments, the game is still many hours of solid fun with friends and family. Captain Olimar is so godlike. What other game lets you telephatically control slaves which you use as weapons? None.
The game also put Metaknight in a position to hit people. Yep, Captain Olimar and Metaknight sell that game. You know what else sells that game? Not treating it so damn seriously, sitting down with people and playing it. Tripping is right up there with x-factor and TAC’s as far as adding something stupid for the sake of it but eh, you learn to deal.
Gunpei Yokoi’s ideology of using old technology in creative ways and focus on developing software is the ideology that carries on today… most of the higher ups in Nintendo are Yokoi’s proteges…
Nintendo still makes some excellent games… but instead of creative consoles with old technology sparking creativity, I think it’s stifling it…
Developers can’t include everything that comes to mind using outdated technology, so developers have to do whatever/include they possibly can…
But this is just the console gaming side of things… this works for handhelds…
A relatively inexpensive handheld that just plays games(nintendo specializes in making those) and creating games that do not discriminate age-wise… that’s what is going to keep Nintendo in the gaming industry…
Idk when the last time I bought a Nintendo console game… but the fun, long-lived experience I can get through their handhelds… man… irresistible…
Seriously I’d cry if they went outta business on the portable side… all the extra features that the PSP/V offer… I really don’t use… and in the end they are meaningless distractions…
I think Nintendo should go the route of making a stupid powerful system that just plays games… and does nothing else…
That would be sweet…
That is what is truly wrong, not just with Nintendo, but with the industry as a whole. Why take risks when you can just spit out Call of Duty or Madden, throw a new year or subtitle on the end, and watch the morons all scream “Shut up and take my money?” The industry is stagnant, because for every Batman: Arkham City or Heavy Rain, we get fifty Generic First Person Shooter #453, or Assassin’s Creed: Boyz N’ The Hood… and people buy the shit out of them.
This is a cycle that cannot sustain itself. When all you have to tout is ‘slightly improved graphics’ and ‘online multiplayer’, eventually, the costs and manpower involved will overtake the revenues brought in. I hate to say it, but maybe the industry needs another crash so that people can move away from the ‘bigger, faster, stronger’ mentality and back towards rewarding, satisfying gameplay with real longevity.
Or maybe I’m just too old for games… goes back to his room in the old folks’ home with his DS and Pokemon games…
Nintendo still makes good games but how many times can I buy Mario, star fox, donkey kong and Zelda. I like having a lot of variety in my video game selection for a console.I like seeing new stories new faces along with familiar ones. For every Maximo, kingdom hearts, bastion we got about 20 cods, and 10 halos.there is no balance
Nintendo, put your games on PC so I won’t have to get a Wii U. I don’t care about the console exclusives on Sony or MS. Between PC ports of third party games and a new 3D Zelda every 5 years (sold through Steam) I can stick with PC and not buy another console for the rest of my life.
all, i can say is
snes > n64 > gamecube > wii > wiiU?
like wtf nintendo. step ur shit up.
i’m too old…
Is a can of that stuff still like $100 or something?
I have no idea. I’m just saying that people will flip completely out, and buy it no matter how it tastes.
Having a Wii was worth it for Red Steel 2 and Muramasa.
Nintendo just needs to do a better job of supporting their third parties. If RS2 had gotten the kind of support that games like COD get from Microsoft it would have been huge.
Also try putting the good games in with the console, Metroid Prime made me love my GameCube.
I liked Nintendo’s games when they weren’t trying to shoe-horn in waggle controls in EVERY GAME.
Then Microsoft and Sony decided that they MUST join the bandwagon -_-
Nintendo is dying just like PC Gaming is dying.
Hint…
Spoiler
You don’t get no damn hint!
Oh, the exciting chase for greater power and production values is going to bite gaming in the ass later down the line. I hope console creators continue giving indies an opportunity to create for their systems.
Funny thing: it was during that non-serious friends ‘n’ family play that I and everyone I played with realized we were playing garbage. I’d argue it’s just plain shitty, for tournaments or just chillin’ on the couch drinking Pepsi and eating chips.
At least X-Factor and TACs require a conscious decision to trigger.
Does the special edition come with this?

I loled from that part in your post honestly.
But yeah, I see Nintendo going down the same way Sega went down. The saddest part is Sega was fucking up because they were pissing their game devs with the Saturn, 32X and the infinite amount of systems/add-ons they had back then, upping the specs before the devs could get properly acquainted with the hardware.
But Nintendo, I don’t even know how they fucked up, but they did. Probably when they started appealing more to old people and children instead of just children.
Think about it, when was the last you saw that involved kids and their grandparents, bowling.
That’s what the Wii is in two words.
Video bowling.
True story from my high school days about Surge:
School was out for the day and there where I assume two guys from coke right near the buses. They had probably 1,000-1,500 cans of surge stacked on a giant pallet like thing they where standing on. They gave them all away for free and for that one time only you could keep going back for more. That day was so damn good. Can’t remember how many cans I got. This was some time between 1994-1996 I believe. Sucks that vault died and cherry vault ended up rare as hell before they stopped selling it. Finding cherry vault cans was rare as hell too. Only saw them once at a golden pantry. Anybody elses school do this too back then?
And back to the topic too. I’m afraid nintendo will get to the point where there too far behind in the generations. And there own ego will ruin a lot of there sales really bad someday. They’ll keep sticking with the underpowered generation behind system with yet another gimmick the soccer moms and dads will buy. Hell didn’t they say something about a touch screen on the gba even at one point they where testing?
