Like that other guy said, Filter is the sound that you get when you remove the highest frequencies of a track and the melody get this murky “deep” full bass-y sound.

Its also called “french” and “french touch” because thats where it got really big in the late 90s. As well as “filtered funk” and “filtered disco.” Filter mixed with old soulful samples…the shit NEVER gets old.

SEX - Ive actually heard some of those tracks mixed into funky disco sets, and they fit SEAMLESSLY. You throw in the right amount of funk after some serious disco house and you’d never know the difference.

The essence of house is disco. Electronic disco, disco never really died. I dont like how modern house is really losing the “soul” of what house was meant to be. It went from putting an r&b acapella over a dance beat to thise David Cuntta trash. Theres no soul in that niggas music, he makes pure trash to the tee.

And I dont know how I feel about DJmag’s top 100 EDM djs of 09 and all of them being fucking white or hispanic. Im gonna change that shit. I know its not a shitload but there are other black djs that dont JUST play old school, deep, tribal and disco.

Heres a few morsels. I know you guys have heard just about all this shit:

Bob Sinclair - Yes U R (Mylo Remix)

Le Knight Club - Hysteria

Whitest Boy Alive - Golden Cage (Fred Falke Remix)

Peppe Le Funk - Supernova

Im having a brain lapse…ill post more later

Er, I’m just trying to make conversation.

If that was directed towards me, that wasn’t a jab at you at all, it’s one to my fellow country men. But if you don’t like talking about the weather and stuff, and just want no nonsense House discussion–that’s ok.

Jean Mostache - Choucroute
Filter Music

Don’t forget about Bloody Beetroots.

Djmag is essentially a techno/trance magazine. You need to create your own tracks to even get on that list, let alone mix. The only people i’m familiar with in the top 20 are David Guetta (for obvious reasons) Carl Cox and Axwell.

because of my musical preferences, I steer clear of any DJ magazines.

I’ve always mixed house with old school funk/disco.

Bloody Beetroots arent really filter. They chop it up too much and use a lot of sound FX, so I would consider them that “figit” stuff or just plain electronica/dirty house.

I just made a filtered/french/disco mini mix. Its really raw, so dont judge me. Im uploading it anyway, I was just playing around as usual and thought id share.

I used to steal those free CD’s that came with Djmag all the time.

:nunchuck:

Btw…does anyone know of free and easy music making software? I remember I had MTV Music Generator and made some decent stuff on it. I also had Carl Cox’s game which was fun too.

I tried fucking around with Reason but that was just too hard for me.

Latest Production:
FSP - Sorry I don’t 1nt 2o
Gnere: Filter House

Phantom’s Revenge influenced, it has glitchyness, and lots of chopping. Most importantly, a cowbell in the end. Tell me what you guys think. Criticism is welcome : -)

Zulu: Flstudio is really good, and that’s what I use. The biggest weakness of it is that it’s unorganized as hell but tbh that can be attributed towards my general disorganized attitude in general. If reason confuses you, just use FL Studio as master, and Reason as slave. All you need to know after that is how combinators work in reason.

It’s around 83 degrees right now in Arizona. I have a Corona and lime, some weed, and I’m listening to this.

We have too many DJ magazines in Europe, are there any that directly cater to the US dance scene?

We have BPM magazine. AKA the Steve Aoki magazine imo.

thanks for the comment dude!
