Full-time Purple Spider Lesbian: Juri Match-up/Strategy Thread

How do you approach moves that you kind of just have to deal with?

For example, Honda Headbutts and Bison Flipkick. I don’t think I can get a punish on headbutt without super if he uses medium or light versions. With Bison’s flip, I can sometimes space it and focus crumple if he only got one hit, and I can also sometimes punish with far lk xx pinwheel if they spaced badly, but if the Bison is any good he is trying hard to get the spacing right.

MK fireballs seem like the only thing I have that works well to try to hold them off. But bison’s walkspeed is hard to deal with, and I struggle with trying to keep track on his charge to see if he can flip me or not on top of everything else. There’s also not a lop of Bisons or Hondas online I can practice against.

Also as an extra, how do I make Bison sit fucking still after knockdown? Overhead is ok against some of his options at least.

Any advice?

Cr. strong stuffs all of Honda’s headbutts, and you can slip a fireball charge in on his recovery

Hey look, a thread about juri matchups. Just what I needed!

So, Rufus dive-kicks…any advice? My friend recently starting playing him (likely as a counterpick) and his entire gameplan is literally:

divekick, lp lp lp.
divekick, lp lp lp.
divekick, lp lp lp.
(bonus! If I press buttons, combo into ultra)
Rinse, repeat.

I try cr. mp, but always get caught by that damn divekick. I also have trouble getting the counter to come out when under pressure.

ALSO…

T. Hawk. Another character I’m having huge issues with right now. Yeah, I can zone him, but he always manages to get in with condor spire/dive. The T. Hawk I play against just does bodysplash+jab jab jab over and over again once he’s in. Like with rufus, I just cant anti-air or react in time and cant get him off me. Help?

Vs thawk you can use the st.mk, if close you punish throw, if far you break his pokes and special attack. You can use far mk for break condor dive (ex too). I try to upload a video for show you what i mean. And if the condore dive go in your guard without ex, you can punish by senpusha hk or far hk. Senpusha lk is also really usefull.

Vs Yun and other dive yolo characters, just stay calm and punish by reflex with st.lp, far mk or in pressing use os techthrow like cr.mp ~ cr.lk + cr.lp (more active frame on cr.mp if you’re not sure about timing) or st.hp ~ cr.lk + st.lp and you can confirm by senpusha for better punish.

It sounds like you need to jump back j.mp or ex pinwheel to end pressure more

Keep in mind you can always record the blockstring in training mode and then see what counters work for you when you replay

Honda match up still a nightmare.

also, that damn ultra 1 from Dudley has gotta be noted as officially broken. goes too far and travels too fast. its always shocking to me how silly its become.

I haven’t played any Hondas in Ultra. That sucks to hear.

Yeah. Dudleys ultra is a real problem. That thing is so freaking scary. Lol

Honda is ez in this version. Meter managment is just the most important thing tho.

Ultra 1 is corkscrew cross right? If you playe 3rd strike you would know by default not to fuck with corkscrew cross

He means Rolling Thunder.

its just that it goes full screen now. its super fast. so, i’ll keep zoning full sceen saying to myself “even if he launches ultra…it wont hit me. no way, cuz just look at how far away he is. so I have nothing to worry abo…” Dudley launches rolling thunder after I release fireball, I hold block. I eat ultra.
it goes too far and travels too fast. its broken.
at least Honda’s U1, for it to connect Honda has to take a couple steps in…yunno? but this Dudley ultra he’s like full screen away. still connects. its impossible to fireball zone him now with Rolling Thunder stocked. i keep falling for it cuz my brain just keeps negating the reality its that broken.
only thing that works is ex fireball cuz she recovers faster.

also, i have to train myself to launch U2 on a Hugo that wants to do full screen ex lariat.
i keep trying to neutral jump it which is fine. but to raw U2 is game over. and i keep forgetting to punish something so easily punishable with raw U2. i always facepalm when i don’t.

the only thing I’ve noticed about Ultra Honda is that his ex headbutt is now punishable. (or was it his hp headbutt?) other than that i find him impossible to beat. didn’t Juri’s fireball meter gain get nerfed a bit recently in the last update?

Any tips against Elena ? I’ve been playing this game over quite a few versions, I learned various characters, played tons of bad matchups but she seriously fucks me up for good.

The situation I struggle the most with is the neutral against her. She can move forward with ease, has decent walkspeed, basically she moves forward faster than I can move back AND she can sweep stores on reaction easily so the option to walk back, create space and store is gone.

Alright if I can’t get stores easily let’s play footsies. She has dominant pokes, basically I can’t stand around that cr.MK range because she can either cr.MP xx EX overhead (hit or block doesn’t matter shes in) whiffpunish any pokes I throw out and if I let my guard down or wait/bait pokes she can just dash (pretty fast dash) and shes in again.

Once I get a fireball and the fireball game going it’s somewhat ok but until then I lose WAY too much life, and even if I get the lead back I just need to fuck up once and she can use healing.

And if she gets her dumb pressure going it’s ggs

^Shiro- I do think Elena does really well against Juri as well, but theres a few things that make the MU easier.

" cr.MP xx EX overhead (hit or block doesn’t matter shes in)" - This is unsafe on block. EX overhead always punishable - I recommend punishing by plinking cs.mp into store (the punish is pretty awkward timing at first). You can block EX overhead by blocking high on reaction to cr.mp. If she’s whiff punishing with this, the elena player is too content with this blockstring not being punished.

The only way the Elena player can beat this is by doing non-max range cr.mp into the low special move and FADCing. However, if you never block the overhead/punish it the Elena player won’t bother with this.

Elena’s slide is way slower than it looks! I used to think I kept getting whiff punished from half screen on my stores… but it was just reads. If you think Elena is going to Slide from that half screen distance, neutral jump. Elena has really bad tools to deal with neutral jumps… and Juri’s neutral jump game is one of the best in the game.

Getting a fireball store is tough though, you need to make her respect your other options so you can get that half screen store off. Once you release a LK fireball you can feel pretty confident to store right away, cause her options to get around already stored fireballs are lacking (i.e. her jump arc sucks)

Just as a general tip, pretty much every character can punish store with sweep on reaction, but when they do this it is because they are anticipating the fireball store. Everyone is human, so if they are anticipating the fireball store… its much tougher for them to react to other stuff (forward jump, neutral jump, dash up, pokes, etc.) so by doing these actions you get advantage from their anticipation of fireball store

oh yea cammy can far.MP xx arrow, yun can s.MP xx upkicks etc. I am well aware of it. I know that I have to make her respect my game. Compared to yun, chun, vega and all the other characters I can honestly say that I have no clue how to do it against Elena. It doesn’t feel like I can win footsies against Elena. How should I really make her respect my options ? What tools do I have against her groundgame ? far.MP as a footsie tool is complete garbage due to her weirdo hitbox. cr.MK has probably the best reach out of all the cr.MK’s in the game which usually makes whiffpunishing with juri easier but it’s way too slow to whiffpunish light pokes. So I really need to make sure it makes contact, causing me to take an extra step forward and if I decide to not poke with cr.MK I usually can’t walk back fast enough due to Elenas walkspeed and reach of pokes.

I may make it sound harder than it really is but this is how this matchup felt to me up until now.

To be honest, it’s just really hard to counterpoke/whiff punish in general against Elena, so I think Juri has to shy away from this in the MU and focus on her strengths. Keep in that half screen distance, abuse jumps, and when you get a knockdown go in. If they are too poke spammy (spamming lights out of range) use instant divekick/ex to make them respect that.

It’s a tough MU for sure though (and I think elena is a better character in general).

Rolento
State of confrontation: JURI makes you feel bad.

Well if you played with a good Rolento and lost it, you know that this match up is good for JURI, she just needs to use fireball mk full screen and wait Rolento goes under to punish with senpusha cr.mk or fireball lk or anti Aereos cr.mp and cr.hp if they jump.

Before he rolls in your direction he gives a little jump to roll back and forth, it happens most of the time, if the JURI player have a good read he will be able to use dive kick hk when he is rolling back, if Rolento is dropped do a meaty overhead (sekku) when he is standing or cl.mk if they want to grab and rarely cr.mk to crash down.

Overhead is very good against Rolento because he has no option to punish Juri’s overhead. No normal or ex or ultra 2 whiff. Just be careful with Ultra 1 as it’s the only one that fully reaches JURI. when he stay at the corner, do maintain pressure and having care with his the cr.lp, that can be won if JURI is well positioned and use overhead again. She’ll passed over the bat hitting Rolento.

If you jump every time he wakes up, Rolento will probably roll back and run away. If you are good player you can try punish him with option select (ex senpusha), a good Rolento player uses to defend instead of running away. Your overhead will punish him if he defends and at the time of his escape as well.

The only threat that Rolento does, is when he cross up and use the stick overhead forcing you to defend standing. If he jumps on the wall and come towards you using mp, do use red focus level 2 or HP use focus attack level 2 early. Do practice to know the timing, because JURI is able to punish him with fireball hk, run before he fall and do an ex senpusha. What crap!

Main tools to be used:
meaty overhead (when he wakes up)
fireball mk full screen

Secondary tools:
cl.mk (when he wakes up)
cr.mk (when he wakes up)
dive kick hk (to punish when it rolls backwards)
focus level 2 and level 2 red focus (to punish jumps on the wall)
anti Air cr.mp and cr.hp

Poison
State of confrontation: difficult but achievable.

Try to start the match with mk fireball at full screen distance. Never try to dispute a fireball war in half screen or 3/4 of the screen. This use to be very bad to Juri. Dash to pass under Poison’s lp fireball (full screen), if Poison realizes that the fireball war is drawn she can try to come closer to hit you with her qcb+kick. This kick goes through normal and ex fire balls so stop using fb and make lk senpusha. It’ll defeat her qcb+kick and the former do lk senpusha. When you’re in half screen avoid making hk dive kick over her fireballs, Poison often punish Jury’s dive kick.

Try to overthrow poison sliding. Do not jump in cross up, because Poison will punish Juri with her reversal ex kissed by a goddess. If you want to jump make sure to do safe jumps. The good news is that fuzzy guard (j.mp + divekick) works well in this confront.

Any ultra is welcome but I prefer ultra 1. Kasatushi mp and lp + ex senpusha must be done as a mind game over her fireballs. It works well agains fb spammers.

Sorry if I wrote the wrong, does anyone know how to confront Evil Ryu, Oni and Seth?
