Doesn’t look like I’ll be going to Japan this winter so I’ll try to get the Kentucky crew up there.
i’d definitely show up.
I’m there again like last year…I’ll make sure to have a shit ton of spare time too.
Last year was super fun and this year should be even better.
Bozac the date is good for for frosty faustings, now lets get the schedule setup. Do you want to make it a 2 day event bozac or 1(i prefer 1 but 2 is ok)?
You can grab info for the place from my current gathering / tournament postings if you need to find the address and numbers. Id like to toss in SF4 and get that going around 2 pm if possible.
Current games for tournament?
Tekken6
Sf4 Singles
Hdr
Guilty Gear AC
BlazBlue
MvC2
Melty?
Sf4 2v2?
Thats pretty much the list that im looking into atm if you want to change any or take some out let me know but i think those are solid candidates for it.
As far as FEES are concerned please pm me what you have in mind and we can discuss it further.
Anyways id figure id speed things up a bit by posting some info as the sooner we get the info solidified, the sooner we can start looking into sponsors so we can have catering and a nice huge pot / Prizes.
Do you want to add TvC to that list? It can be the last tourney for CGH in the US. After that, we can start playing UAS.
Man, Mike, you know I’d love to come out but unless I get some job with monster Christmas vacation CA is just too far
Tactics, not to knock you or anything, but I read somewhere that you should never separate singles/doubles for a single game, because it’s bad for people that play both that have to wait around… what is your experience with this? do those people usually play casuals until doubles rolls around, do they wait, get food? just wondering your opinion on this and reason for separating the two.
Those are just games in general for the tournament…its in no way the schedule for the tournament.
And no one plays TVC, so I don’t see why we should cater to the 3 people that play it. But then again you could always run a side tournament for it if you want.
OK I want to make the official thread for this event and update it with specific information shortly after gradually.
For now I want to finalize the game lineup.
The main reason I started Frosty Faustings in the first place was to help the Guilty Gear scene by having another major. So obviously GG is the main game I want to run.
SFIV is obviously going to be there, and I plan on entering it too.
Most GG players like BB so we will have BlazBlue as well.
next, Andy wanted to run his own Melty Blood tournament so im fine with that. It will be a small tournament and wont take up much time or resources and will be a good way to give it a little exposure.
so the 4 games I want for sure are
Guilty Gear XX AC
Street Fighter IV
Blazblue
Melty Blood Actress Again
as far as teams stuff goes. I plan to run GG teams. If there is enough demand and time for team tournaments for other events then im fine with that too.
As far as main organizers who will run each tournament
GG - ElvenShadow
SFIV - Tactics
Melty - Capps
BB - HeartNana (I think you said you wanted to run this, right Rob? If not I can run both or help you run it anyway)
those are the only games I care about having so much but I think the other games that would be nice to see are Marvel, HDR, Tekken 6, and TvC.
Last time Keits ran his own TvC tournament and my younger brother is actually pretty big into TvC now ever since he saw it last year so if those 2 want to pool resources and run stuff that would be fine if they provide their own setups.
Marvel probably wont have a huge turnout so if the marvel guys wanna run their own marvel im down with that.
HDR is gonna be a fairly large tournament and will take lots of resources but I think we can probably manage it.
I honestly dont care about Tekken but im open to suggestions.
also, I want this to be a ONE DAY EVENT. Lets face it, Sunday tournaments always suck, people gotta go fly or drive back home and they dont have time for it, and people wanna chill and get fucked up Saturday night after tournaments, so lets just keep this shit to Saturday only just like last year. We finished everything last year on time with no problem so it shouldnt be an issue.
Domingo, about how many setups can fit in the venue total? Give me your input on what you wanna see in addition to the 4 games I locked in for sure please.
people play this in chicago?
You tell me. I dont live in the US right now so I have no idea. This isnt just a Chicago event, this is a midwest major. If theres no interest in HDR then I wont run it. I havnt played the game pretty much since Frosty Faustings last year LOL
Thats why I made this planning thread before I made the official one, to make sure the line up is solid
i really wouldn’t bank on having people sign up for it a lot has changed in the chicago scene since sf4 came out
Yeah, Mike, I’ll take care of running BB.
I like the current lineup and think we should add marvel…and as for tekken 6 id like to add it also but im not sure if that would overwhelm us with people. As far as HDR goes it would bring in some people from other states that play more SF games but i understand this is more so a GG fest. Really I think its up in the air as far as HDR is concerned but if its not on the list its no biggie to me.
As far as setups go only using 2 rooms yielded us about 8 setups and thats with a table setup for the Live Feed / Commentary and still room for about 3 more setups. So that leaves about 2 more areas down there for setups which can probably do about 8 more(so all in all id say enough room for almost 20 setups). The place down there has alot of doorways so it makes it good for the airflow as well. Soon as I get the info for the Live Feed / Commentary ill give it to you so you can add it to the main tournament page. Do a search on the area BTW in regards to hotels and stuff, there is a ton of places to eat around the store as well. I was thinking of getting a local pizzeria of mine to cater the event if you want, they have a ton of damn good food and some of the best pizza ive ever had (Best panzarrotis!..huge pizza puff for those who dont know). Nothing like a italian beef and giardanara pepper panzo or sausage!
Ok lets add Marvel. I always respected the determination of the Chicago marvel scene even if it has seemed kinda dead for a while. I doubt it will take long to run so we might as well just have it.
HDR… I dunno… I honestly dont give a shit about that game anymore… we can run a side tournament if people want but maybe we shouldnt put it as a main event…
As for Tekken, I also kinda worry that Tekken would draw in a huge crowd of people who would come ONLY for Tekken. I dont really want a bunch of Tekken ONLY players taking up a bunch of space and not entering anything else. Do a lot of people in Chicago that play 2d fighters play Tekken pretty hardcore? Does Tekken have plenty of its own majors separate from the other stuff? Im not educated at all about the current Tekken scene so if you could provide a little insight it would help. As for now I would say we dont need it but…
and as for TvC, im fine with another keits side event like last year.
Main games should be
GG (singles and teams 3v3)
BB (singles… teams if Rob wants to run it and we have time I guess?)
SFIV (singles and you wanted a 2 on 2 right Domingo?)
Melty singles
Marvel Singles
and then if people wanna run side tournys im fine with it
does that sound good?
As far as the food thing goes, lets wait on that but its a possability if it seems like there will be a demand for it.
Live feed/commentary would be dope
Yeah i can run anything, but I’m mostly worried about if there’s time and interest in a BB team tourney.
And IMO no Tekken. I like tekken and all, but there’ll be too many people who come just for that. With 20 setups, and 5 major tournies, 3-4 setups to each tourney plus computers or whatever people might bring themselves seems like it’ll be plenty to deal with.
yea I agree with that. Ok no Tekken
Lets just do BB teams if theres time and interest but not promise it as a guarentee
team tournament interest for most games tends to fade a bit after a long singles tournament ends
Yeah I’m gonna assume it’s not gonna happen, but you never know. BTW I plan on entering GG, SFIV, BB, MBAA, and maybe a side tourney or two. I’m definitely gonna need someone to help me run BB while I’m playing my other tourney matches. Preferably someone who isn’t currently running a tourney. I can try to talk to some people and find someone, or should I leave it up to you to find someone?
im sure there will be plenty of people who will be willing to help run stuff while tournament directors are playing. I will be entering GG, SFIV, and BB myself at least (maybe more) so it will be the same for me.
Last time tons of people were totally cool about helping so it shouldnt be a problem. old school chicago players who i know well will be willing to help for sure so i wouldnt worry too much
Another issue I would like to hear some feedback on is…
What are everyones thoughts about what consoles to run the new gen games on?
We have SFIV, and BB at LEAST, and also we will have marvel and I imagine people dont want to play it on DC anymore.
If we keep everything on one format (ie all PS3) then its easier for people who want to enter multiple games to just bring one stick and use it.
If we make the formats different for different games (ie run SFIV on 360 and run BB on PS3) or something like that, we can get more consoles easily but people will have to use other peoples sticks.
I personally would be fine with having multiple console formats as long as you keep it consistant within the same game because im not so picky about using other sticks, but I know lots of people are anal about that stuff.
So what are your thoughts?
