Fredericksburg, VA -- Fight Thread

10 is the agreed price, Sage wont be doing it and when I spoke to one of the employee’s from gamepad 10 was also a reasonable price.

Greetings! First off, welcome to the area. It is good to see a new competitive face that has a desire to improve. Next, I would like to address some things. I feel that you have been slightly misled about me. I don’t just go there to “collect”, or whatever. I have helped anyone who has ever requested assistance in their game play, and I don’t mind continuing to do so. Sometimes, I feel that the players themselves know what happened and what to improve on next time. This is when I just let things go and let them cool off without saying much.

I am aware not to group all of the people in the same category, though. There are a lot of players here that don’t mind it, deal with it well, and play casual sets with me whenever available. The only thing I see lacking from the area right now is the motivation to get better and the attitude to improve despite there being what appears to be a powerhouse in the local scene. Don’t get it twisted though, I’ve gotten my ass beat down for years in the FGC and I’ve spent countless cash trying to improve. Keep in mind that I’ve received a lot less assistance on improving than I’ve actually gave out here at GamePad. Back in the day, if a top player didn’t see potential in you, they would just continue on about their business without saying anything to you. I, myself, had to find ways to improve on my own a lot of the time. Then I started showing some potential, started hanging out with the crew, got invited to sessions, and continued my improvement from there.

If this is true and this is how they really feel - they have the wrong idea of it. I would be appreciative if I had a local top player in my area help me out with aspects of my game. Like I said, I’ve had to work on a lot of my game on my own and have improved from the ground up. I’ve had some help along the way, but it was a privilege that I feel was earned.

If you would like to run some games with me, let me know and maybe we can set something up. I’m actually very familiar with a lot of the people you have listed. The area definitely needs more of a competitive attitude. You seem to have that. I’ll be here or on PSN if you would like to get some matches in.

I’ve been traveling to the scene in Richmond to get my games in. Since sfxt dropped, that’s all people usually play around here and I’m still too hard headed about AE and UMvC3.

So clearly there’s some sensationalism going on here. This guy would make a good network anchor. Anyway, I ran the most recent tournaments at Gamepad, not the girl’s boyfriend. I was all about holding tourneys every week; I stayed here after my shift ended waiting on people to show and play. When people stopped showing up, we stopped holding tournaments. Whether that had to do with MagMan or not would be better asked of the players that chose not to come anymore.

There are 3 or 4 Soup players (excluding me) who play fighting games and they’re not bad, nor are they ‘ghey’. We play these games for fun and some of us competitively. We’re not fan boys, but we do spend more time here than anyone else does. It’s home turf, more or less. I respect anyone trying to get the community going. Please don’t flame the area you’re new to and know nothing about; be respectful and you might find the locals a little bit more receptive.

1 - You are either misinformed, dishonest or both. Our employee’s boyfriend has never had anything to do with running our tournaments. We cancelled the weekly due to a lack of turnout.

2 - The community is never wrong. If they say $20 is steep, then $20 is steep.

3 - You realize Bolt is Soup or Bolt, right?

4 - Since when is it acceptable to libel other TOs or venues? If I am trying to partner with someone my first move is never to bash them publicly with falsities.

I am the manager you were waiting to hear from, and I can assure you that you will not be hearing from us.

For everyone else, we do have a tournament scheduled for late August. More information will be posted soon. It will be a SFxT 2v2, SSF4:AE v2012 1v1, UMvC3 1v1 and Project M event.

Hi, AbstrkVandal.

I think I remember playing you in the first SFxT tournament. I was the Ken/Hwoarang player. I was also a regular attendee of the tournaments they provided.

Unfortunate that you got turned off by GamePad’s participants’ attitudes. And you probably shouldn’t listen to what people say about MagMan killing the community. If anyone killed the community, it would be the community itself.

The girl that works at GamePad told you the truth, GamePad’s tournaments are on hiatus unless GamePad sees the willingness of people wanting to play. And again, you may blame the community for that, not GamePad.

I’m also down for some games, so please let me know.

I also used to hold tournaments when I worked at GamePad and this is a reoccurring theme. We have a new fighting game come out and hold tournaments then attendance dwindles so we stop holding them. If people show interest then they would bring them back i’m sure. I also dont really like being called " Soup Or _____ << Insert lame name (GHEY)" It is quite rude

Looks like my Soup brothers took care of what I had to say about Soup.

AbstrkVandal,
I was kinda baffled how you had nice things to say about me then turn around and pretty much call me “ghey” lol… you knew I was Soup. Meh, but it’s whatever. Just ease up on all of that, especially since you don’t know what we are about. All I ask for is a little respect for my friends and I.

Anyway, with all that aside. I haven’t heard from you in a while man, good to see you are taking interest in the revival of the Fighting scene for our area. I’ve been waiting for it myself and I’m glad to see you are taking action to bring it back. Although I would of went about it a different way, I do appreciate what you are trying to do. As GamepadVA listed above, there is an event being planned in late August so if you want to get the scene going as much as I do, be sure to spread the word and keep checking SRK for the Tournament Listings.

As far as getting together and playing some casuals, I’m always down for that. Since I haven’t seen you in so long, I no longer have your number and since you haven’t been on Xbox Live in over a month and had a Silver membership, I removed you while cleaning out my list. So if I could somehow get your number again, whether you shoot it to me via PM or get it from Sage, that would be awesome. Let’s get together for some casuals. I wanna see how much better you’ve gotten.

EDIT: I also wanted to point out that the community didn’t die because of MagnetoManiac, although there are a few “bad apples”, it died because lack of interest or lack of drive to get better. Magz has extended his hand many times to players and tried to teach/show them how to get better or what to do in situations, it’s only a matter of whether the player wants to listen or not. I like playing Magz. He’s a solid player and the more I play him the more I feel like I’m improving, I only wish other players would feel the same.

I really miss the weekly tournaments, even when the crowd was thin you could still get some good matches and some casuals on the side. I learned a few match ups and it was great to put into practice things I would work on during the week. Moving to La Plata took me out of hitting them up. I’ll try to make the tournament in august, but free time is really hard to find right now.

Just a note on MagMan, the guy is real good but also helps out. Pretty much helped me increase my match-up knowledge vs his yang… after he beat me senseless, but it really helped my game out. Also, making GF’s and hanging in there against him in MvC was something that pushed me to focus a bit more.

last thoughts:

@sloth, its been maybe 6-7 months or so, but I am still haunted by you chipping out my fei at the last tournament I went to. Just thought you should know.

That seemed to spark everything a bit!! Hahahah. I’m glad everyone didn’t take all of what I said to heart because most of it is just a witty first impression and review about the centers I have visited since I moved here.
@SoupOrBrothers There was no target intended with the SoupOr’Ghey’ thing , you all sport some sort of tag with a double meaning for the most part.(weather it be souporfreak, souporgeek, souporfun…you get the point) It was just my reception to a funny tag title. I do think you’re a great player Jayson and I am always down for casuals along with the rest of the SOUPORTEAM. We just need to base a spot to play and I’m always game. I can understand how you would be insulted seeing as none of us formally met each other. So my apologies are out there.
@Josh from GamePad I’m sorry to see we couldn’t work out something on a mutual level, I was really looking forward to helping host and run tourneys with your team The cost amount was something I was openly discussing with players as well venue centers to get a better perception level for marketing to the center(s) I haven’t spoken full on with. If it was the review that go you salted. I’m sure we can move on from it, as I said I AM sorry. More obviously, you’re shop’s base competitors (and well known friends) all post on here but none of them tried to burst your scene as much as this thread has in the few days of being up. If I didn’t go in, it wouldn’t have been till Bolt(Jayson) bumped into it to say something to you. That was my intentions for Mantis and GP, I know Sage a little bit more personally then you and the soul intentions were to just spark some friendly networking. As for the boyfriend thing, WHO CARES it was the one misconception to the whole entire thread. Excuse me if it was one of his friends GFs instead.
@Magman It is great to know there is a source of competitors out here, I was a bit worried at first with the way the Tourney Scene had reacted after the one I had been to. I’ll be shooting a PM to you and Bolt with a contact # so we can get up and arrange casuals and etc. What would you consider your main game of play?? Also I wasn’t SAYING you weren’t giving people tips, it had been one of the complaints I actually heard which is why it was a piece of the review. I was reassured the player would come forward and make right of the opinions I had heard. SRK has been around forever for the competitors so I was pretty sure you would browse across this or catch wind.

Other than that, I’m glad I was able to liven up this area!! HAHAHAH Write a review and just watch them come out of the woods!! Best way to orchestrate some good old fashioned competition. Also I met a really good MvC2 player Flu today at GP, hopefully if GP is ever interested they will hold a MvC2 tourney for old times sake and fix up your MACHINE. Mahvel2 will never die down!! Anyways be well and it’s been great getting everyone in touch. If anyone else is interested in Casuals or Tourneys PM me and let’s exchange #s
Vandal

Also is anything going on today at GP?? My girl works at the mall so I always stop in. I’m up for some AE and/or SFxT tourney play.

AbstrkVandal,

I am the employee’s boyfriend I assume you are referencing to. I hold no grudges toward magman nor do I think he killed the scene. Magman has helped me improve my game and gives me pointers from time to time. Yes there are players there that don’t wish to compete because mags just comes in and cleans up. But I can assure you I’m not one of them. I can’t blame Josh for cancelling the tournaments, there were less than maybe 8 entrants consistently for at least 2months before he cancelled them, but you can still find me there whenever I have a day off or when I get out of work early, mostly playing marvel or SC5. I’m open to casuals or anyone willing to play. unfortunately no one shows. :frowning:

just didnt appreciate you calling me out. If anything I’m one of the players there who is constantly trying to step my game up. Im never angered when mag or anyone completely bodies me, I just accept my losses and learn from it. Just felt like you think I have a scrub mentality which is not the case.

Nova, my bad bro. I know you don’t have the scrub mentality, trust me. Playing all of the Soup Team made it clear you all play competitively and at different levels. I do know that there are goers who do use and will use whoever or whatever they can to blame, for them to feel secure about them not playing. Which is whatever. I opened this thread to get a everyday discussion about casuals and tourney play or even tips on matchmaking, B&B’s or whatever Thus far it has worked so much, it’s added new members to SRK and old ones to come back into the scene and just discuss matchmaking.

All retardation via assumption aside, I hope our future tournaments work out. Games are fun guise.

I stopped into GP tonight, while I was at the mall to pick up my girl and met some players I have met before at a prior tourney. I believe one of their names was Yoho and then Sloth as well as a few on lookers that seemed to be interested in the competitive element. Sloth I have to say you have an insane ground game with your Abel and I really good pressure mix-up with em. The stick was a little loose but overall it’s awesome a random person just handed that off to the shop so you can use it for competitive purposes. Anyway…Can’t wait for the tourney I hope I can be there, just keep it posted when you guy’s are doing the late august one. It’s been a bit since I played AE it was good to see how my Hakan can still hold his ground without intense amounts of practice. Anyway, keep on gaming and hope to play some more of you soon.

wut…

people fear magman as a player… ONLY IN FBURG!!!

CvS2?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think I’ve ever lost to you. I’ve managed to lose a set at GamePad before. So FBurg > you, LOL!

pat vs fburg, round robin. I got money 2nd best E.ryu player myself.

I am always up for from some good ol’ fashioned CvS2 but it’s honestly all about Hakan when it comes to AE12. Is anyone actually planning on going to the late August Tourney yet???
