Frankie3s...

From what I understand, denjin was like a silver bullet in some cases (I’m not being hypothetical, this is real experience).
Like having a very hard time vs a good chun while using shinkuu, switch to denjin and find the wins come too easy, like the guy has no experience with it and isn’t sure what to do.

That’s also even later than 2004. So I think to some degree denjin definitely wasn’t something everyone knew how to deal with like it is now.

Huge sweeping statements however are almost never true so whatever. ~(o_o)/~

kara shinsho is gawdly.

Nah it’s the other way around. Bad Chuns can scrape good Ryus just from basic priorities and hit confirms. Denjin is actually pretty bad against Chun from wake up super and all her 50 ways to escape it. It’s still at least a 3-7 matchup in favor of her

I thought Chun’s SA2 lost to denjin…like the invincibility runs out…

either way this fucking thread is rough

Wow, I had no idea about Denjin and Frankie putting it on the map, that’s so awesome!

we need C Royd to introduce Japan to this

I played the guy and stomped him to death. He sent me a rage message afterwards.

You misunderstand. I’m not saying objectively it is superior against chun.
I’m saying in Japan, much less than 10 years ago, denjin wasn’t necessarily something everyone knew how to fight. my example isn’t illustrating how dope denjin is, it’s supposed to illustrate lack of knowledge/experience against it.

actual first hand accounts exist, this isn’t speculation.
olive garden etc (for ‘wargreymon’)

I’d like to see what Vanao or someone has to say about the history of Denjin, at the moment it does seem plausible but then again those Nebraska guys were saying they invented most of 3s tech and still have some unknown tech fucking LOL

Once Nebraska shows Japan whiff headbutt -> tyrant slaughter the game will never be the same

it’s because denjin ryu doesn’t work vs high level jap players unless you’re a high level jap palyer. trolling aside I remember a podcast where socal players were saying denjin is better hands down and how frankie fucks them up with it but the thing is those players weren’t playing their own characters to their full potential. But I guess in their area denjin is better maybe not somewhere else

what I want to know is how the fuck did people figure out kara palms so early in 3s life?

Funny about the Nebraska thing. Cameron did the same gimmick on me. Whiff Headbutt - Tyrant Slaughter. I was waiting for it and it still worked. =[ too good

But as ridiculous as it sounds, Cameron was the first guy I’ve heard utilize the cr.mk xx denjin setup. First saw Ghaleon use it in 2011. He later told me a Nebraska player called Cam taught him it.

I’m sure any Japanese player have thought about it way before but they never used it until 2013 because they didn’t see the value in it. BUT I’m also sure Cameron doesn’t know it’s value and just does it thinking it’s special

Frankie played at a time when very few Japanese players knew how to fight the gameplan/style.

If he played the same today over there, he wouldn’t last very long.

I asked if there were good denjin players pre-tougeki in Japan and the answer was as expected: “of course”

Nothing against Frankie (he was good), but use your common sense guys.

I saw random Ryu’s doing all this in like 2000.

I’ll give Frankie credit for sticking to denjin when players started dropping it when they started to learn how to parry.

When 3s was just released there was more character diversity and more Ryu’s and most jap players knew how to parry so denjin didn’t really work. When denjin population died out there were some denjin players here and there that might catch some players by surprise, but nothing consistent. For experienced players, denjin was more risky and not consistent like sa1.

Please leave this site, Tebbo. You are a nut hugging scrub.

LOL the same thing happened when I faced him. He also sent me hate mail afterwards saying he hoped a patch came out that would block out “laggers like me from playing the game”. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Streetfightergod indeed…

canoe you need help.

I don’t believe he created denjin ryu and never said otherwise. He did use an uncommon super against some of the best competition in the US scene at the time. That’s a lot more noteworthy than whatever the fuck you were doing.

However, not very long ago denjin wasn’t something everyone comprehensively knew about or how to fight. Yes, that includes Japan. That can be as simple as just not seeing it often and not spending time figuring out the best ways to fight it. It isn’t a slight against anyone.

Ryan isn’t the only person with experience playing in Japan. I also never said anything about denjin being used in Japan.
I said it wasn’t something everyone knew how to fight well. If you were struggling to win, switch to denjin, and then just start going on a roll, I think the difference is your opponent’s lack of understanding. But that doesn’t fit the story so let’s forget it.

Then again, I can’t imagine anyone in the fgc that is in a position of power giving space to someone that isn’t already ahead of them.

the great thing about 3s is its history is well documented on vids. There’s no need to speculate or take anyone’s word for anything. That’s why I said you wouldn’t find any vids of anyone - Japanese or otherwise - playing the current style of denjin Ryu before Frankie3s. (high risk/high reward, faster charges, blocked strings into fbxxdenjin, blocked dpxxdenjin, setting up to catch tech rolls etc) The first person I heard of as denjin expert in Japan was Vanao, and he came around after Frank.

Yes, there were Ryus using Denjin, like Valle, who was hands down the best Ryu for years. But they used it as a back up plan.

This is much too easy to say ^

The 3s that I knew to be SoCal’s wasn’t well documented. Not well documented at all. There were tournament vids but for the most part, the “important” games were never really seen. Even then, some pivotal exhibitions were hoarded. I won’t speculate on the reasons for this but it’s very much true that it was not well documented.

Of course, this benefited a certain kind of person and left others to live on as secrets.
