Call of Duty is the hardest FPS, requiring the most strategy and ability to aim ever to be seen.
Oh wait, fuck CoD :<

Call of Duty was actually really good.
But only because it was on the PC. (LOL ELITISM)
Jk. Consoles have good FPS’ too. Like Timesplitters 2.
unreal tournamet 99
call of duty 4
Hmm, I don’t think I’ve played enough FPS games to confindently make a top 5 tier list. I will say however, that Time Splitters 2 was the best FPS I’ve ever played.
Aw shit, did they ruin AA?
I fucking loved that game back in the day.
FPS or MP FPS? Cause everyone is talking about MP. And altough, you do have your greats, like UT, Quake, shit even old skool Duke Nukem, remember playing that shit with people and it was awesome. Nostalgia too.
But what about SP? Half Life, Half Life 2, like the best FPS out there. Alot of talk about UT, but what about Unreal? That game was groundbreaking when it came out, you know back when game developpers were actually pushing the enveloppe, instead of WELL SELL YOU THIS 8 YEAR OLD GAME FOR 60$ AND THROW IN SOME ELITE SERVICE FOR ANOTHER 60$!!!
You have absolutely zero idea of what you’re talking about.
So power weapons are the only element involved in map control? Careful there…
I’m just going to link this often linked video that seems to shut people who don’t know nor understand what the fuck they’re talking about up.

That, Is a good question i wasnt much of FPS fan as i found them dam hard.
But from what ive played so far
1.Bf2
2.CSS
3.Cod4
4.BC2
Best as in like “good” good? Or “fun” good?
no shit…it’s a fun game and solid overall, but this is a tier list of the top 5…
Turok 2/Turok Rage Wars (T2 for Single Player, Rage Wars for MP)
Perfect Dark
Quake/Quake 3
CS1.6
Call Of Duty/Medal of Honor:Allied Assault
honorable mention, TF2…though I stayed away after all the crazy updates but MIGHT go back.
Its a hard list to make because FPS has some of the worst shelf life next to sports games.
my personal faves are
Halo 1-3
Counter Strike 1.6
Perfect Dark
Half Life 1&2
Quake 3
Yeah Turok2/Rage Wars were awesome games. Hell even the original was good with all the cartoony graphics. Nobody’s mentioned Goldeneye yet?
Halo: Combat Evolved
CS 1.6
Unreal Tournament 2004
Halo 2
Quake 3
Call of Duty 4
I’m pretty smitten with Rage…>.>
I don’t play these games competitively.
I really like the DOOM games (1&2 more then 3 tho), I like the Halo shit, and MW1 and 2 where really great. Bioshock, System Shock 1&2, Deus Ex 1 and 3.
But again I don’t play any of these competitively (If the option is there i mean) Aside from Halo Reach and only when my brothers want to as a way of staying in touch. It’s fun an shit but I don’t take it too seriously. I’m lookin forward to the new Prey game. That looks like good fun.
Well I always thought I was good, but these people, dayum, they know the game like the back of their hand. Crazy match!
Have you tried playing that game after so many years?
You need to put on some very large nostalgia goggles in order to enjoy it.
My all-time favourite FPS is The Specialists. No question.
It is old.
It is ugly.
It has the most interesting movement system of any FPS ever. It has a command list for your movement options that looks like something out of a fighting game. And those options are all useful. Every single one. They are intuitive to use, and many of them do flow into one another, and there is undeniably some overlap in purpose, but each option is unmistakably a separate and unique tool.
Strategically, I believe that FPS games tend to revolve around your use of position, and why you change positions. I have a lot of respect for Q3 and CS, and I know they’ve been immensely popular, so I think they make good points of comparison. (IMO IMO giant simplification) Whereas games like Q3 place their emphasis on where you move, and games like CS place their emphasis on when you move, The Specialists places its emphasis on HOW you move. I feel that The Specialists is the only FPS ever that has so directly focused on the methods through which you transition between positions. There really is nothing else like it.
When the game was new, it received a lot of cursory attention for its “stylish” visuals (translation: we tried to make it look like every action movie you’ve ever seen all at the same time so actually it’s pretty fucking forgettable), which is such a shame, because it heavily overshadowed how compelling the game’s raw design actually is, and how much variety and possibility emerges from that basic framework.
There are a lot of other features that really help make the game truly one-of-a-kind (slow-mo powerups, optional 3rd-person view, graduated weapon balance, unarmed moveset and melee system) but their likeability all stems from the game’s movement. The ways in which you can move in this game form the heart of the game. And that heart beats so strongly.
Here’s a short video I pulled up at random that showcases at least some of what I’ve been yammering on about.
It’s pure joy to play. I do not think that this game is well-suited for real (tournament) competition; it wasn’t built to be super deep or super serious. It’s just really, really fun. There are so many viable playstyles, there is so much room for tactical creativity and, most importantly, IT IS @$%#*^& SO - MUCH - FUN.
^Looks like the Matrix.
Looks like fun.
