yet if the store loses an employee he is easily replaced, from the same managers who argue with these same customers and nothing happens to them.

Any place that doesn’t allow you to bend the rules just a tad to take care of a customer isn’t a place you want to work at anyway. Even if you did get fired for breaking the bill, it’ll still look better than getting fired over getting into a pissing contest with the customer.

Yeah, welcome to retail. I worked at a dollar strore for almost 7 years, and let me tell you that you will always come across people who think they are entitled to greatness due to you being inferior in some way. It’s one thing when you have to go out of your way every now and than to help somebody, but when you are treated like a lesser human being that is uncalled for.
I have never personally flipped out on a customer, but there have been times in which if I saw the same person outside of work I would have easily put them in their spot. 9 times out of 10 it’s usally ghetto rats who feel the world has screwed them over somehow…
IMO, both the customer and the OP are at fault. But that doesn’t give that customer an excuse to call the OP an idiot. He’s pretty idiotic to not understand the words “No, I can’t.”
