Force of Three- The Nova Teambuilding Thread

The best order for that team would probably be Spider-man/Iron Fist/Nova. Also, I agree with dougiie-OVRKLL, it’s a team of point character and isn’t gonna work great.

I’d re-think it but it’s cool if ya wanna use it.

For a while I’ve been maining Mag Vergil Missiles, but I’m obv never gonna drop our boy, Nova. So I’ve been also running nova vergil doom. But for that squad I’m wondering if maybe plasma beam isn’t preferred? Both missiles and plasma work very well for both points, just wondering if you guys think the beam is better suited for this scenario. I’m happy either way.

I’m a huge advocate for Nova/Missiles, but Nova/Beam is still really good and Teleport/Beam will never stop being godlike. It depends on your Vergil really, if you want to Round Trip glitch people into infinite blockstun, then Missiles, if that’s not your thing then Beam.

Hmm, well I’m aware of the glitch (basically just canceling a normal to RT and releasing then reholding immediately, correct?), but have no idea how to do infinite block stun. But id love to! Slightly off nova topic, but what’s the sequence to do this?

I have no idea, haha. Ask the Vergil forums?

:stuck_out_tongue: you get a pass because your nova advice is always on point. Speak of which, as you’re an advocate of missiles nova, and so am I (my saying plasma might be better was def a question, not a statement), any general advice on how you’re using missiles in neutral? I’ve seen your missiles combos, but wondering your neutral strats. Whether it be ways you protect the call, things you tend to do after the call, using em more to zone, rush, etc?

I will say I’m not completely in the dark on this. I’ve got decent game with the duo; but my assumption is you’re just better. And even if you’re not, its almost for sure you have/use techniques I don’t. So just lookin to expand the toolbox. I’m happy to share my own shit, but I always just assume I don’t have much to offer you guys don’t already either know or do better.

Anyway, long story short, teach me missiles nova as you run it. :stuck_out_tongue: if I have good stuff to add, I’m happy to ammend

Some stuff.

  • Easiest way to protect missiles, obviously is Pulse H but i quickly learned from playing against good players that you still need to mix it up a bit, otherwise people will learn that Pulse H is their cue to snipe missiles. Wavebackdash into Pulse and Missiles, Backwards Air Dash cancelled into Pulse and Missiles, Wavebackdash and do nothing, Wavebackdash and then dash back in etc.

  • Definitely do not get in the habit of calling Missiles and THEN putting up a Pulse, too many players have trained themselves to team super or similar on reaction to Doom’s voice, or the sight of an assist so doing it in that order will just get you both blown up.

  • Hidden Missiles + Human Rocket Super is a good gambit to go to every now and again, you can pre-emptively beat some snipes that way and worst case scenario you get to ride away safely while the missiles follow and lock them down afterwards for a mixup.

  • Know which matchups Pulse + Missiles is basically guaranteed keepaway, Haggar is the big one here. And remember anytime he has to block Missiles is a free chance to Human Rocket to the other side of the screen and start again.

  • Confirms: 1. If you call missiles and immediately move and get a hit, s.MHS jump cancelled into Javelin will get both hits of the Javelin for the bounce, follow up with Cent M, Cent H, H xx Super. 2. A little bit later than that s.AB cr.C xx Fly, BC Unfly, ABCS, HS 3. A little bit later still s.BC (wait for missiles to hit) s.CS. Obviously there’s more than this, but confirming off Missiles is more art than science so it just comes with time.

  • Javelin confirms, learn these and love them. Since so many people will now get into the air to avoid your missiles, learning when to throw a Javelin to confirm off the missiles when they hit is key, my timing is to press st.H after the sounds of the missile launches stop and then use the timing of that to make Nova say “Like, Energy Javelin”. Works 90% of the time. Once you’re comfortable with this, the next step is to teach yourself to move in and catch them with a normal as they come down to preserve the bounce.

  • Throw confirms, often a Doom call followed by an air throw will blow up your OTG possibilities, you can almost always wavedash into Launch as the missiles OTG but this is harder than it needs to be, just do H Human Rocket punch right before you fall to the ground from the throw animation

  • Incoming mixups, learn the timing for calling missiles so that they will whiff through a guardbreak throw attempt and still lockdown if you don’t get the throw. After killing a character with a normal move, it’s whiff stand H, call missiles, whiff stand H, normal jump, air dash H (confirm pushblock) dash up airthrow. For killing with a super low to the ground or a snap it’s call missiles immediately, whiff stand H, jump airdash H etc. This also allows enough cooldown after the assist to raw tag Doom off the throw. Other than that missiles just make Nova’s arsenal of incoming mixups a lot stronger, in many Javelin based gimmicks they can be used to hit after the Javelin and preserve the bounce.

That’s all i’ve got for now off the top of my head.

Edit: It’s worth knowing that if you don’t have a corner and aren’t confident with midscreen advanced Nova stuff, j.BBC fly ABCS, f+H+Missiles, S, j.BBCS dp+L xx Super still does like 725 which is pants on head retarded damage for how simple a combo it is.

Im thinking about Nova Doom Strider…what do you guys think?

Great team.

pretty goddamn ridiculous yeah, all you really miss is a lockdown assist to go ham on high-lows but seriously, even plasma beam gives you enough blockstun for a quick IOH j.L so you’re more than golden with that team.

Nice lol. Do you guys have any tips with that team? Im new to strider

As a relative SRK noob, what’s the policy on these stickies? Obviously the original creators of these threads aren’t around anymore and the OP has pretty much no info in it, i’d be happy to make a new one and keep the info updated with all the great input from you guys, but how do you go about getting one sticky replaced with another?

Waddup nova corps broskis, need some help with my team:

Should I stick with Nova/Frank/Sent or trade in sent for Nova/Frank/DocDoom? (and if Doom is better, missiles or beam?)

A friend of mine plays Frank/Doom with the beam. Maybe this is a Portland thing but we generally consider plasma beam to be the all-around better assist for most characters, it’s just not as unique as missiles. Anyway, it allows Frank to get in really easily and it gives him an easy 8 extra hits in a combo with air 236+H OTG while technically saving/avoiding the ground bounce. Missiles would actually give him some pretty strong keepaway and I guess could be used for mixups with the barrel roll, but I think Frank is better with a neutral assist like the beam. More importantly, Nova doesn’t have that neutral assist, and even more importantly, Nova is fucking stupid with plasma beam instead of just good with missiles. Maybe Falcomist or Sottle can expound on why Nova/missiles is great, but I think plasma beam is one of the best assists for him. Anyway that’s a really good team, though Nova/Frank/Sent is great too.

Good point sir, even though I feel like shopping cart/beam is almost the same assist and cart/missiles has more variety, I’ll fux around with beam for now.

There’s a few notable differences between shopping cart and beam (mainly about 14 frames of startup for beam and beam being an actual projectile), but the roles and space they control are quite similar. Personally, I’d stick to your gut on this one and try missiles first; it covers prime areas of the screen that most assists don’t offer (certainly not beam). The biggest problem I could potentially see is Frank struggling in the neutral with missiles, but I personally doubt that’d be the case. Try both, see what suits you better.

Frank does alright in Neutral with missiles, even if beam is a little better, but levelled up Frank corner pressure with Missiles is insane, damage too.

Nova/Frank/Missiles is my main team and i love it.

So I played a 60ish game set against JEO (Morrigan/Wesker/Strider) last night, and about 20 games in I realized his Morrigan was just ducking under plasma beam or otherwise running away from it. He suggested missiles, and I gotta say Nova/missiles is way way way better than I expected, I should have given it a chance before. It’s especially good at blowing up Strider (as Marv mentioned a while ago). So maybe I’ll give Nova/Dorm/Doom another shot.

My question is: what other matchups do you think Missiles really helps Nova with?

As much as missiles are good for Nova, I still say Plasma Beam is better. Having access to a projectile assist is the best thing Nova can have. Nova without a projectile just isn’t the same monster. If you already have one like Task arrows then I’d rock missiles, but yeah, missiles rape Strider pretty hard and so does Doom in general. Doom/Sentinel/Taskmaster are probably Strider’s worst matchups I think.

Right, like I said it’s mostly gonna be matchup based. Plasma Beam just was literally doing nothing against his Morrigan and it was better to have something to blow up Strider with. The set is up on gostunv’s twitch but I got blown up like 50-10, but at least 8 of those wins were with missiles even without knowing how to use them in combos.

And yeah I’ve seen Sentinel destroy Strider pretty bad. Weirdest thing about Japan though? No Sentinels. I’ve seen probably 3 different RR players and not one Sentinel.
