I’m looking at using Nova/Doom/Ryu. I was messing around last night and found a nice mixup with Doom. I’ll tell you ahead of time that this works on most of the cast outside the really tall characters.
You should be using Doom’s Plasma Beam assist for this to work.
If your up close, do S.M, S.H, Call Doom, as soon as you call Doom do a M.Centurion Rush (FDP), if your up close the Centurion Rush will whiff over their head and put you on the other side, but Doom’s beam keeps them in block stun. This will combo afterward, but the main thing is that you recover from the dive kick before they are out of block stun for the beam assist and you have just switched sides. It allows for an easy throws attempt or to continue the combo, very easy to hit confirm and seems pretty safe.
Keep in mind it’s position and character height dependent, the shorter they are the more leinency your going to have with this.
I’m using Frank(Cart)/Vergil(Rapid Slash)/Nova(Pulse). I feel Nova benefits well with lvl 3 X factor, and his red health eating moves aren’t a problem if I’m gaining back my health in X factor.
Meanwhile, Nova’s assist can allow me to play a distance photo gathering game early on if I need to, and obviously if I THC with Frank, I get easy lvl 5. Sadly, pulse assist doesn’t really help Vergil too much, but whatever.
Lastly, it fits my goal to have a team of all new characters, so it’s exactly what I wanted.
Anyone using Frank on point and Nova in another slot should know this. When you perform a combo with Nova that ends with Super Nova, DHC into Frank’s Survival Techniques right around when Nova says, “POWER OF”. This should leave the opponent in a hard knockdown and since Survival Techniques has little recovery, you can follow up with Frank’s :s: and finish the combo for instant level 4-5.
So I Now have two teams with Nova on them. Thor(Smash)/Nova(Strike)/Hawkeye(Kamakazi) works ridiculously well to the point where I have only had to play Hawkeye in 2 out of about 40 matches. The wall bounce from Nova Strike leads to all kinds of free resets/mixups for thor which all lead to dead characters.If I encounter any trouble with Thor I try to safely get nova into play… Thors Mighty Smash also works wonders for Nova… calling mighty smash assist at point blank range then going into M centurion arts just about guarantees a hit or a Deep cross mix up. The other team is not working out so well for me but that is because as of now my Dr Strange sucks hard. Also I stole a tactic from Zucco… flying over their heads with Nova Strike then just dropping into a cross up H has worked So many times its not even funny… thanks for that one. I do have a question Does anyone know how to do the combo on the ground with M Nova Strike Wall bounce into M centurion arts? I have seen videos where they connect but I cannot hit that for the life of me.
In regards to beam assist. I like Doom’s, and IM’s, but the problem I’ve had with them is the damage I get by following up with a combo from a confirmed beam. With that said, I swapped for Mags and the results turned out to be what I was hoping for.
New team is Nova/Wesker/Mags, with everything falling together. In all cases, DHC’s are great(as well as THC’s for Wesker). Combo’ing after a confirmed disruptah nets about 700K or so everytime with Nova(which compared to what I was getting with doom, and IM, is a much larger amount of damage). Best thing about this team, IMO, is that all three are a threat with X-factor levels, and meter on deck. I’m loving it way more then what I started trying out(Nova/Wesker/Doom).
Currently running Nova(Forget which assist)/Deadpool(Katana-rama!)/Sentinel(Drones). Deadpool is using the OTG assist because I, for some reason, can’t get forward heavy to connect as a relaunch. Drones are nice if they block them, you can just walk up and overhead/go low.
Still pretty rusty, haven’t played vanilla since about 3-4 months ago.
So how do you guys feel about that gravimetric pulse assist? I was real excited for it till I heard he sacrifices red life to use it. That sucks, like real bad, I mean if he is on life support I can’t call the assist anymore. Im trying to build a new character team for a tourney Im going to on friday, my current team is hawkeye/sent/trish, but Im looking for a quick replacement for trish for the tourney and Im considering mr nova. How do y’all feel bout anchor nova on that team, and what assist would you recommend?
nova F+H + felicias assist is an unblockable and leads to great damage.
nova beam dhc to akuma beam to felicia catscratch…(lol) all the character dhc well from each other into each other. 2 anchor characters in felicia and akuma. akuma demon flip +felicia helper is unblockable.
nova + tatsu assist = straight godlike.
nova c.m + tatsu assist is a hitconfirm/antipushblock mechanic. tatsu easily combos from c.m at about a little more than half of c.m’s max range.
easy to hitconfirm off of tatsu into novas wallbounces and whatnot (cant remember the names right now)
nova c.m +felicia assist xx special overhead hits high OR crosses up opponent then felicia comes from behind and low… hard to block and completely depends on what range nova did his c.m at.
basically what i see in nova is that he has a plethora of overheads with long range and 2 lows with long range as well. also hes unsafe on damn near everything he does… meaning he needs to use assists as hitconfirms. which is all good till i get blocked and then i have to wait for my assist to cool down…
then i realized that nova comes with an assist of his own (javelin) so basically i go for my assist hitconfirm and if its blocked i go hide behind gravemetric shield and toss a javelin or 2… use them to approach then repeat with my assists that have obviously cooled down.
i honestly think this is how nova should be played… unless he has some safe on block moves i dont know about.
I have just changed my team position, and I just changed some characters too, so actually what im using now to build a good team around nova is Wesker on point with his OTG assist (this asisst works excelent with nova in case if i need to hard tag) Nova in the middle with his Nova strike (and i will said it again, this is his best assist and it works well with no wall bounced combos for maximun damage, and the third is sentinel with the drones, so on point i have wesker trying to get in with the drones and the nova strike which is pretty easy, but the question here is finding the sinergy around the 3 of them and i think i found it. so i recomend you to put nova on point or on the middle i didnt liked him as an anchor cuz his draining life moves.
So I started off my team in the order of Nova (Overhead) / Wesker (OTG) / Iron Man (Beam) and as always the case for me, Iron Man is a terrbile anchor. As soon as I lose Nova and Wesker I pretty much lose the match.
So I was thinking, how does everyone feel about Nova as anchor?
I’m gonna have Wesker (OTG) / Iron Man (Beam) / Nova (Overhead); Wesker definitely benefits from both assists but I don’t know how Nova would fare without any assists, although his level 3 X-Factor capabilities are ridiculous. And quite frankly none of the other characters grab my interest other than these 3.
Anchor Nova is pretty good. He gets a ton of speed with Lvl 3 which is something I think he lacks. But I prefer Nova on Point.
I like THe Centurion Assist to help with unblockables. Also Nova Strike is good if your point character has no wall bounce. I think Pulse is such a bad Assist. I dont need my assists losing more red life if I have them in the back.
Currently My team is Nova (Centurion) / Strange (Daggers) / Ammy (Cold Star). I think the team works pretty well. I used to have Strange with the Beam Assist which worked pretty well too but alot of people would jump over it or duck. Since the Daggers Track It keeps the Opponent guessing and has enough stun for me to swoop in.
Ammy Anchor in Ultimate is amazing since she gets the speed boost from X Factor now. I lost alot of my combos since Ultimate ( Alot of Weapon Switching ) and the hit stun decay on her moves, so I’ve been dashing about fishing for an M.
Also if I need to zone a bit Ammy Cold Star is a good cover against non beams while I put up a Pulse ( That move takes longer than I wish it would to come out ). Then chuck Javelins and rush in with Cr. M or Centurion L for unblockables.
Yea ill prolly run hawkeye/sentinel/nova with the high assist(it causes a ground bounce on air hit right?), pulse had the potential to be a really good assist but I think capcom dropped the ball on making it consume red health. Plus like dudes said pre-release, anchor nova(with no x-factor) can freely spend his red health and not have to worry bout anything since he can’t get it back.

Plan is to use Nova on point/ as his rushdown seems the least self sufficient, meaning the 2 lockdown assists will really help with getting in and getting combos started. As well he has great damage, without the need for much meter. With ammy as second would continue the rushdown as usual, switching to zoning if nessecary. When doctor doom comes in things get fun as i hope to save at least 2 meters and level 3 XFC for him to clean house.
What advantages does your point (first selected) character have?
Great damage, Priority and decent mobility. As well as minimal meter requirements.
What disadvantages does your point character have?
Slow recovery on normals, and limited mixup potential.
What maneuverability options does your point character have?
8 way airdash, wave dash, and flight.

Lockdown all day, allowing nova to air dash for mixups.

Pretty well great at everything he does. Good mobility, and small size.

Will be awful, no reason to use over DHC.
What are some of the weaknesses of your team?
Weak against high invicibilty assists, and possibly teleport characters.

So I think Im going to drop Strange from my Nova / Strange / Ammy team. I dont think he’s helping me well as an assist. I love his design but its just not working for this team. Maybe I’ll pick up Vergil or RR as a replacement. I need a good assist to help keep me safe or to get in with Nova. What do you guys think??

I’m still working on tech there and trying to figure out who I want in the number 3 slot. Right now it’s Sent, but drones suck for combos. However Drones are great for getting in, resets, and safety.
So after testing my team online and against my friend, I am reallllllly enjoying nova/hawkeye(greyhound)/ammy(coldstar)
I feel like it has a lot of answers to potential problems
edit - I am liking that atleast a few people are teaming up nova and ammy, is there any real reason beyond mine ( my dog looks just like ammys 6th color : P )
