Just a question- How does nova pair with dante’s jam session assist? I was thinking nova is great with a beam assist to help him get in but realistically all you have to do is jump the assist. I know Nova has an excellent air grab but good players will catch on to that quick and tech the grab. So if you called in jam session would it be possible to catch the jumping opponent, throw an energy javelin, and combo? And if the javelin doesn’t work how about the medium version of nova strike? Or even just air heavy/ special?
Nova “basic” get in tactic, is cover the ground with projectile assist and Air dash. If the opponent jump => grab into combo (or jH into combo).
Yeah I definitely get that part, but eventually won’t your opponent get smart and tech the grabs? So I was just wondering if anyone has used an assist that also covers vertical space as well and how its worked out for them.
He said use grab or j.H. That means you pick one or the other for a 50/50.
I’ve been messing around with Nova/X-23/Akuma. X-23/Nova stuff is in a vid on my youtube channel.
Nova/X-23 is a little bit different. with this one, the ideal is to just use solo Nova relaunches. do the H xx fly, H xx unfly, H combo into relaunch, then after the relaunch just do H xx qcb+L so they get soft knockdown. wait until they float as low as possible, then do dp super. DHC from that early and you can get Rage Trigger for happy b-days or Weapon X Prime vs single characters. if you are a real boss and get it deep enough you can actually do the full Nova super before X-23 which is pretty tasty.
So I think my Richie/Erik/Kl’rt team is the funnest of all the teams I play right now. I recently picked Magneto for it, and while I’m still in the process of learning a BnB for him, he’s doin’ the deed fairly well. I had to replace Rocky for him because Rocky desperately needs a team built around him. I like the way Magnus and Nova DHC into each other, so that 900k isn’t at all that hard for me to get if I start with 1 bar, plus Estaka is a decent assist too.
I suck at UMVC3 since I haven’t played since December but even I know nova kinda sucks as anchor or at least he doesn’t get anything from xf3 besides javlin spam and the easiest infinite in the game. He really shines as a battery he does good damage without meter, builds meter, and needs some assist help for mixups.
I actually just picked up Nova. My main team was Vergil/Viper/Doom, but I think I’m going to switch to Viper (BK)/Nova (Centurion)/Doom (Missles) as I got bored of Vergil.
So yea, I’m currently running Viper first because I find that Nova doesn’t DHC well into Viper at all. The only time I feel that Nova DHC’s into Viper decently is in the corner from Gravimetric Blaster into Burst Time, but my combos with Nova cause too much hitstun so it’s impossible for me to otg into Garvimetric Blaster without the opponent falling out. I found a way to remedy this with Vipers Seismo assist, but I find that cr. MK + Viper’s BK assist, (delay) cr. HK with Nova is such an easy unblockable from a good length away. For me though, the DHC means more to me as it usually means a dead character off of two bars with Viper to Nova.
That being said, I just picked him up a few days ago and haven’t had too many matches… so things might change.
I’m looking at running Nova/Frank/RR in order to have 2 characters to level Frank, a coverage assist and (hopefully) some anchor potential outta RR. It’s either gonna be decent or suck. Looking forward to finding out ;).
RR can anchor? Genuine question, I literally don’t know anything about RR’s gameplay (aside from his actual moves)
The answer is no, no, a thousand times no. Rocky on anchor is a very bad idea. I tried that out for a hot second, and it went up in flames big time. All I could really do is stall whenever it came down to him. He is heavily assist reliant. Second spot is best for him if you wanna get the log trap/spit fire assist, but he’s probably best on point. Works best for his mixups and junk. I will say, Nova and Rocky do work out well.
Hey guys I have a really quick question witch doctor doom assist does nova benefit from the most ?
Beam is great to help getting in but I’d probably say missiles because that assist is just complete BS. You have to completely respect them because it’s hard to punish all that well (sometimes you may hit doom soon but get hit by a single missile) and it can basically accomplish any role: Extending combos, breaking enemy combos, pressure, lockdown… I’d say missiles.
Good point. But I also run super skrull…with doom at anchor do you think there’s sn assist thatll benefit both?
Hi guys, thinking of picking up Nova, and I’d like to see where he’ll fit with a team on other characters that I’m comfortable with.
Forgive me for my very limited library of characters but these are the only characters I use:
-Felicia
-Amaterasu
-Rocket Raccoon
-Strider Hiryu
To some extent I can also use but not as good with:
-Doctor Doom
-Dante
If possible, I’d like to avoid using Doctor Doom because I’m pretty sick of putting him in every team I’ve already made (because let’s face it: you can put him in any team and it’ll be automatically better, no matter what position he’s in).
Thanks for advise.
How does Nova work with the Sons of Sparda? I’m building my team around them and i intend of playing them in this order (Nova/Dante/Vergil).
I was thinking of putting Nova on my team. I either want to run Zero, Nova, Vergil or Zero, Vergil, Nova. I was wondering if there was any way that Nova benefits from rapid slash for the first team. Also any advice for Nova anchor would help.
I’d saaay. Hidden Missile is best for both of them. If you look at the recent page of the Nova Combo Thread I posted a combo using Doom’s Missiles with Nova. Super Skrull can benefit from it, but you’re going to have to check the Skrull forum for that since I don’t play him.
I’d say Nova first, Skrull for his GTFO assist, and Doom hidden missiles. That’s my idea of how to work your team. lurk around SRK for more info on your team, there’s plenty of it.
After the Centurion Rush H, hit them with a j.H and it should provide you with enough time to DHC out of Super Nova. If you’re mashing the hyper, DHC out of it into Weapon X Prime at around hits 85-90. The reason for this is that Super Nova will cause a hard knockdown, making the opponent fall long enough to fall into the Weapon X Prime hyper. The damage will be around 950-959k, assuming the optimal start of j.H, s.MHS. It should work from any point on the screen, since Nova’s combos can literally go from one edge of the screen to the other.
Aside from that, you can test your luck by doing TACs. Nova’s BnB -> exchange to X-23 -> j.MMH xx j.dp+H xx j.qcf+L, land, Centurion Rush assist, qcf+M(full) xx Weapon X Prime xx Super Nova(mashed) does 1.075m from either up or down exchange. From a side exchange, you do the same exact thing except you do Rage Trigger instead of calling Nova assist into Weapon X Prime because it won’t reach. That version does 1.024m.
In the corner, you can do Nova’s Fly/Unfly H loop, and on the third j.H, do an up or down exchange to X-23 and do j.H xx j.dp+L xx j.qcf+L, land, Centurion Rush assist, qcf+M(full), sHS, sj.H xx j.dp+L xx j.qcf+L, land, qcf+M(full) xx Rage Trigger(mashed) xx Super Nova(mashed). The down exchange version only does 1.063m, but the up exchange version does 1.128m.
Hope that helps a little.
I want to second this notion with Hidden Missiles over Beam. I play Viper/Nova/Doom and Hidden Missiles with Nova is just annoying. Set up a Gravimetric Pulse, call Doom, throw an energy javelin. If the missiles hits them, you can easily confirm it into Nova’s ridiculous cr. M. If they block the missiles, you can either do it again if you’re too far, or go into a high/low mix up if they’re about mid screen from you.
You also get an easy relaunch combo if you call missiles before you f + H OTG that nets somewhere between 700-800k one bar and is meter efficient. With chip and meter gained from your keep away game, you can easily DHC into Doom for a kill. I’m pretty sure this combo is corner to corner as well, so that will ensure Sphere Flame hits on its way up after the DHC. Note that this combo causes too much hitstun for gravemetric blaster to hit, so you’ll have to use supernova.
