Yeah Black Ghost Rider needs to be a thing…
I’m actually not a fan of how young they made everyone look. I know they are going for a more contemporary retelling of the Fantastic Four such as Johnny being black and Doom being some emotional blogging hacker, but yeah. A lot of big risks that can potentially be one of the biggest disasters.
How hard is it to get Dr. FUCKING Doom right???
My sum-up after the Spider-Man news:
I think Fox is going to greenlight a Fantastic Four/X-Men movie as soon as possible, rather than letting the characters die and go to Marvel’s hands. I think they will try to strengthen their licenses, they have to do something to compete with the Marvel+Sony alliance.
For the trailer it looks like they have a diamond in rough with Fantastic Four. Even if the first movie doesn’t do too well, I think the Fantastic Four characters could appear as support characters in new X-Men movies. I’m convinced F4 can be the great connective tissue in making a transition to more sci-fi oriented stories, there are things they can do no mutant is able to. That would be the way to start introducing spaceships and such and finally do a decent X-Men: Phoenix movie.
I would picture Fantastic Four 2 being a fight against Galactus, they’re able to dispell him with a device but then they realize they simply transported him into an alternate universe. The F4 go themselves into that universe via a spaceship, and guess what? It’s the X-Men universe in the early 90s, they’re effectively moving! That way they could interact with the X-Men: Apocalypse cast and begin a proper Shi’ar/Phoenix saga.
Kinberg has said he thinks he’s able to pull off the crossover, I’m pretty sure Fox will greenlight this soon.
While mutants are a huge universe indeed, Fox needs a little more diversity to be able to set up bigger stories and a much richer universe like what Marvel does (just see, Apocalypse will not even be related to aliens in X-Men: Apocalypse, and there’s a big space opera universe out there to explore – now with Star Trek, Star Wars and GotG, space is hot again).
And Fantastic Four are the only other property they have left. F4 movie does look good and interesting, and more important than that, revelant (that “high science” speech from the beginning is just wow for a sci-fi/superhero cinematic universe franchise) and different to the X-Men. I think that can be a great aid to strenghten Fox in competition with Marvel+Sony and WB.
Seeing how Marvel+Sony is coming together, and the huge offer WB+DC has, I think it’d be urgent for them to connect their properties in order to create something stronger and take advantage of the little that is left out of Marvel Studios’s control…
I forgot if this was the official FF thread, anyhoo…
new trailer…
That trailer just makes me want to have ribs
They still aren’t selling this movie well enough to me.
It looks like generic sci fi shite, the casting is just too bad I cant relate the characters at all with their comic counterparts with the exception of Thing, whom looked better in a poster than actually moving about.
I almost shut it off when I saw that Reed was this 21 year old Jesse Eisenberg/Michael Cera wannabe.
Then I shut it off when they started talking about interdimensional travel.
I liked that trailer, old school approach to exposition, set up, and pay off.
This IS the Fantastic Four. Dimensional travel is every third Monday for them.
That’s not how they got their powers.
A reboot taking creative liberties with a fictional character’s prior estalished origins? HOW DARE THEY THAT IS NOT THE POINT OF A REBOOT!
WTF!?!
As much hate as the first two Fantastic Four movies got, at least they got the creation of the Fantastic Four right (more or less).
What’s all this nonsense and the whole team getting their power through “interdimensional travel”.
Call me crazy, but I think the Fantastic Four universe has as much potential as X-Men, but not in the wrong hands.
I’ll hold off passing judgment until I see the movie, but the trailer doesn’t look promising at all…
I just want both the FF and X-Men back in Marvel’s hands so we can get proper movies. @orochizoolander I can’t think of a single iteration that has the FF getting their powers from interdimensional travel. I understand a creative liberty, but they’ve more than used all their liberties making Johnny Storm black for no reason. Yes, I’m a black guy who hates the fact that Johnny Storm isn’t white. At least Miles Morales had some semblance of a reason.
This script is glorified fanfiction.
Not enthusiastic about this movie at all. I would guess that it will be a very lame buildup to only one fight, then DUN DUN DUN sequel cliffhanger. Fox has become very predictable about that stuff, Disney does a better job at connecting plots. At least the thing looks good.
Can’t wait for this to make like 60 million dollars, and just go the fuck back to Marvel.
Yes because “proper movies” isn’t a vague as fuck term that doesn’t mean shit. And yes because it is so clear that the casting director decided Johnny’s skin color based on nothing, but a coin flip, oh but you would know since you clearly got your hands on the final draft of the script and read it already so you know it’s “glorified fanfiction”
When it comes to all films most SRK’ers devolve into Po/Sonicabid presenting ill informed opinions as facts.
Anyways my 2 cents on this is I’ve never liked F4, always thought they were boring, generic, cookie cutter nuclear family ass superheroes, so I especially don’t give a fuck about their origin being changed by a reboot whatever the reasoning is be it creative, financial, legal, etc. What I do know is that trailer was mildly interesting to me it kind of made me want to see the actual film which is saying a lot given my previous sentence so that trailer was successful in that regard I’ll reserve judgement until I actually see it. Would love to see a solo Doom or Superskrull film instead of F4 though, big fans of both, but that’s never happening lol.

Is…Is he serious right now?
You clearly don’t know what you’re talking about when it comes to these established characters. I know that the point of a reboot isn’t to retread the same steps, but goddamnit, it’s not to run off the cliff with it either. The movie gains nothing from palette swapping Johnny, nor from changing the origin story.
Think about the Spider-Man franchise. Spidey comes in with these organic web shooters, sees no mention of Gwen Stacy until the third movie, and messes up Sandman entirely by shoehorning him into Uncle Ben’s death somehow, leaving all the actual fans asking 'WTH?"
Then comes the reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man, with the corrected web shooters, correct reasons for Uncle Ben’s death, and the proper love interest in her canonical spot.
This is supposed to be Fox’s chance to fix the mess that they made the first time with these characters, and they don’t seem to want to do that.

Then why open your mouth in the first place? The reason they feel “cookie cutter” or “generic” is because they’re the first family of superheroes. Kinda like how Sailor Moon made a lot of anime tropes because she did it first. People take from the originators, the FF, because they did what they did well in the comics.
Please don’t argue with Zoo. He’s SRK’s resident art snob who loves defending shitty ideas in the name of “art” and “starting intelligent conversation”…

Those two things are different from white knighting something that you admit you could give a shit less about and know fuck all about.
