For pad players: Your gamepad of choice

I have one, not for beat em ups though.

Actually I might try it lol.

The dpad is okay.

That thing actually works with Tekken 2 and 3. But it’s mostly a racing game controller.

I wrote an FAQ for the neGcon over at Rolling-Start in case there’s anything else you needed to know about the controller.

I stil have this controller. Brand new in the box untouched with the comic book…
so badass:smokin:

New pics of the Fighting Commander 3. The pics posted earlier were mockups; this is the real thing:

While it looks more solid than the previous pictures suggested, it doesn’t look nearly as sleek. Also, if I’d seen that matte finish (I thought it was gonna be shiny), I’d have ordered a black one instead of the blue one I actually ordered. Oh well.

Should be arriving any day now. :bgrin:

If you actually played with it, you’d realize that it’s nothing to phone home about. Having said that, I still have mine as well (Chun Li model), with the box, but not quite untouched (though close, because I hated it).

Where did you order from? I pre-ordered from play-asia about three weeks ago and my order still says “preparing order”.

well they look sweet, still can see a saturn influence in its shape. I’m not so keen on the d-pad though, it should of been a floating d-pad aka saturn.

Hey, new to this thread and I checked and couldn’t find any reviews on the Hori Fighting Commander 3. How is it guys? I’ve got a Logitech Dual Action pad, and it’s served me well.

Just want to throw this out there. I had gotten a Saturn pad from a Chinese seller, and I would not recommend them. I had mine for maybe a month before the d-pad snapped right off. It was a month since the initial purchase, so there was no way I could return it. Essentially I threw $35 down the drain.

May I ask? Why do people prefer the Saturn-style pad? As I mentioned, I have a Logitech PS-style pad and I’ve never had problems with it. The shoulder buttons are perfect for executing the Raging Demon, and the other two shoulder buttons I macro for EX moves.

Saturn d-pad “discs” are just nice and smooth, and won’t ever cut your fingers.
Makes rolling motions a breeze.
Plus they just the right amount of snap and feedback for SRKs.

Gotta say that I don’t like the L-Trigger position though, I can never use it in conjuction with the pad.

Does anyone know how the Nuby pad compares to the Saturn pads? I’d like to get one of the Nuby pads to replace my DS2 since they are cheaper than the Saturn pads.

i bought a grey saturn usb pad from ebay, its absolutely perfect - i tracked down the original seller (i assume because all the saturn pad sellers on ebay use that sellers watermarked pictures) and it was basically as advertised (minus the squished box), $20 and it hasn’t failed me once

Suggestions for pad for PS3 Super Street Fighter 4 please.

Also Play-Asia. Not sure if ordering the blue one and/or paying with PayPal has to do with why my order is already shipped…

As an aside, I just noticed the dreamGEAR Arcade Fighter Classic Pad. It looks nifty (being a fan of SNES controllers).

I’ve had quite a bit of experience with control pads (although I’ve now moved to using a stick for charge-based characters).

I have a Nuby pad and I wouldn’t recommend it. The D-pad isn’t efficient (and painful on the thumbs after a short while) and the placement of the START button is poor (easy to hit pause).

I’ve also used the The Neo Geo Pad 2 but I didn’t get on with that at all. the diagonals were imprecise.

I have ordered the Hori Fighting Commander 3 so hopefully that arrives soon and I’ll test that out and report back.

Currently I’m using the official Saturn PS2 pad (white edition - I paid silly money for it on ebay as I was desperate) and a black one (which I’m planning to sell if the Hori pad proves to be up to my standards).

Prior to purchasing those I bought 2 knock-off Saturn pads and within a few hours of use the d-pad fell off. Garbage. I know some people have been happy with their purchase but from my experience I couldn’t recommend them.

I have one too, and I’m in total agreement. The d-pad is approaching Xbox 360 bad. Which is a shame, because it’s a great-looking pad (I got the Chun Li one), and very comfortable to hold (so kinda like the Xbox 360 controller in that respect too :stuck_out_tongue: ).

Can someone please recommend a GamePad that has the following :-

  1. a left analogue stick that has a square gate
  2. 6 button layout on the right just like the madcatz street fighter fightpad
  3. ability to use the left analogue stick inputs for the D-Pad

please recommend the latest product of the above qualities

Thank you

Ugh, the FC3 still has yet to show up, even though, keeping in mind Hong Kong time, it was shipped by airmail almost 12 days ago. I think PlayAsia has just lost a future customer, considering this slow shipping and the fact that their prices aren’t exactly amazing.

My pads of choice…

PS1/PS2:
PS2 Sega Saturn pad

PS3 (for PS3 games):
Madcatz Fightpad or Streetpad (unbranded, but same thing)
PS2 Sega Saturn pad + Hais adapter

PS3 (for PS1/PS2 games):
PS2 Sega Saturn pad + Hais adapter

Saturn:
Sega Saturn model 2 pad (duh)

Dreamcast:
Sega Saturn model 2 pad + Innovation adapter

Xbox:
Sega Saturn model 2 pad + Magicbox adapter

I have that. The dpad is really bad (not even as good as the SNES’s dpad). The controller does work for PS2 games on PS3, unlike the Madcatz Fightpad and USB Saturn pad. The dpad makes it useless though.

Also, can anyone confirm if the Hori Fighting Commander 3 works with PS2 games on PS3?

USB Saturn pad or PS2 Saturn Pad (w/ REAL converter but have since been discontinued). You can’t go wrong with either, but the PS2 pad has the edge over the USB one when on the PS3.

With the PS2 Saturn pad, it has the Select button which also gives you access to the XMB and obviously it works with PS2 games. They’re hard to find these days though. I got the Darkstalkers one from play-asia years ago when they had them on sale for $20. I wish I would have bought more had I known they would be this rare lol.

The USB Saturn pad is definitely the best alternative though.

You use “even” as though the SNES d-pad is pretty bad. Personally, I love it (I will even go so far as to say it’s my favorite d-pad ever, though I am quite hopeful about the Hori pad, assuming I ever get the damn thing). Even if the d-pad on the dreamGEAR pad is really bad though, I wonder if it’s exactly the same size as an SNES d-pad and thus interchangeable with one from an original SNES controller…
