For pad players: Your gamepad of choice

Not at all curious so much as jealous. Very nice collection!

:wow:

kiger, you are an EXTREME pad warrior. I couldn’t in my wildest dreams imagine a collection like that, forget about how I’d store it! You have given this thread a freaking awesome gift my friend!

By the way, you think you can post up more info on that wireless Sega DualShock 2 you posted? I’m REALLY interested to know where you got that.

Reading is fun-tastic! Looks like it was a Japanese exclusive release.

i can honestly say that i love you.

edit- i’d also be willing to buy one or two of the boxed saturn pads… hint =)

I know this post is ancient, but has anyone seen these on eBay anymore?
I’d really like to try it out!

I imported two of them from hong kong about 1.5yrs ago. They were long since discontinued so I think it would be impossible to find them now. If you check the link in my post to racketboy and scroll down in the thread, I post a lot more shots of the controller. Tell me if you need more.

Hehe, well I think I can offer you something better. I recently found out that there is a VERY high quality build of the Saturn USB controller making rounds on eBay. I read some other forums where some folks tore it apart and saw there was virtually no difference between the official sega usb pad (long since discontinued) and the China knockoff.

same here

I also have one more interesting thing; I scored this from ebay for $5 bucks from someone who obviously didn’t know how rare it is. It converts any snes/sfc pad to turbo!

haha thanks, i have a few already. actually give me a sec, i’ll post a pic of my small controller collection =\ i’d love to add a “colored” boxed saturn pad to my collection though.

missing a few but i’m too lazy to go digging around

also here it the official usb pad thread:

That’s cool! What’s the sega pad in the box on the far left? Looks wireless.

Also, what are your thoughts on the knockoff pads? I love the white color; thinking of picking up a few, but it would be great to get another person’s opinion.

I also see you have those neo-geo pads. I guess for fighting games they are great but I never got into non-dpad controllers. Reminds me of the Gamepark. I would have loved it if it was a real d-pad. I know the new GP2X has a dpad but now they went and screwed up the buttons!

Thanks a lot for that link Kyle! Seriously, I wouldn’t know what to do with 1000 hours of battery life. That’s really neat! Too bad I didn’t get a PlayStation 2 for myself until this year.

Woah, I’ve actually seen one of those before! I had no idea it was Hori who made them though! I can’t say it’d be very useful for tournaments, but hey, it might be helpful for SHMUPs and other platformers.

Damn you zeetes and your collection of Sega Saturn pads! :chainsaw:

Seriously though, that’s a pretty comprehensive collection. Shame they’re all black though. Personally, I’d like to get my hands on one of those crazy Vampire Darkstalkers purple PS2 Saturn pads.

kiger, that Saturn pad in the far left box is a PS2 Saturn pad in its original packaging. As for the knockoff pads, I say go for it, but as always when buying stuff, caveat emptor. eBay’s been getting bad rep for USB Saturn pads since the China sellers have finally run out of stock on the original ones.

Whoa, I’m glad I got my coloured USB pad official a while back!

I’d like a skeleton pad for my actual Saturn though.

haha i like black controllers.

aye, the far left 2 are both black ps2 saturn controllers, one “new” and one worn

the neogeo pads i haven’t used a great deal, but man is it a different experience. i really like the buttons more than the goofy dpad/stick to be honest.

the pads on the right were just ones that fell out of the box when i spread it out so they don’t quite fit in with the saturn/neogeo pads

I have been using saitek P220 for the longest time, the control was really good, but the quality is rather bad, I broke 2 in 3 weeks, the next one lasted 7 months, and I was that rough on them, just playing fighting games.

was playing super street fighter hd & after I beat this guy he messages me & says “nice turbo pad scrub user”…& I was like wtf?

I dont own one & never used it…ive heard about these mad catz pads too on youtube review videos. I would like to know more about these turbo pads, is it a form of cheating? does it really help you win matches & perform attacks quicker than a normal xbox pad?

god i want that hori 6 face button snes pad soooo bad

i should have never come in here:looney:

dmx1, though the answer can vary from person to person, the general consensus for basically any video game is that using a turbo function is cheating. Here on SRK’s Tech Talk, since we basically really only talk about hardware for fighting games or (rarely) SHMUPs and other arcade games, we apply turbo to those.

With regard to fighting games, yes, turbo is considered to be illegitimate since it does allow a user to perform actions in games that are considered to be incredibly difficult to do otherwise. For instance, in Super Street Fighter II Turbo, you could do instant reversal electricity with Blanka every time or more usefully, you could recover from dizzy inhumanly fast and tech throwing attempts every single time. That’s why it’s banned from tournaments, not even touching on the fact that you’d have absolutely no access to that kind of functionality if you were to play those fighting games on a genuine arcade machine.

The ambiguity of turbo functionality and the reason retail sticks makers such as HORI and Mad Catz put them on their arcade sticks comes for other games, for instance SHMUPs. The SHMUP community actually allows turbo functionality to be used for certain games that for instance don’t have their own built-in hold-down-the-button-to-rapid-fire feature.

So, in short, yes, turbo functionality is looked down upon since there’s a lot of ways that you can abuse it in competitive play to make you perform much better than you actually should (assuming you use it smart and not to do something stupid like rapid fire Heavy Punches).

**Ikagi-chan **thank you for the information
If people use over xbox live then it should be banned, but I dont think you can because its just a controller. I did’nt understand wot you meant by SHUMPs but I assme its a game, tournament or sum sort of forum/website (sorry im a noob lol)

I was considering using a turbo pad because im not very good at super street fighter & I think it would be a great advantage for me, just wanted to know wot your opinions were, & get information so thank you Ikagi-chan.

Are there anybody here on the srk who uses turbo-pads? If so is it worth it? & which one are the best pads?

Here’s my fighting pads; I didn’t bother to take pics of standard controllers.
