Matttpsx2. Very patient. tahts’ a good thing. but you can poke a little more cant you? lol
- dont punish blankas ultra with ex green hand, use whiff c.mk -> spd/ultra
- that blanka didn’t know how to slide your KKK lariats, but don’t spam it so much when up close too much
overall, good job being patient

I placed 4th in the manchester RanBats yesterday… here are a couple of matches:
Went out in the semi-final to this Balrog:

and lost third place match 2-1 to this Dhalsim:

Both really good players so I can’t really make excuses for losing to them on the day, so please don’t take it that way. I’m interested in input from anyone who agrees/disagrees with what I think I did wrong.
From what I can see it seems in the context of what I did I simply made a lot of bad guesses against Ste. FADC making me eat a headbutt for example, where I could have absorb the hit and got crumple. I could possibly have got away with actually throwing the FA out a little more, as opposed to dash cancelling trying to bait. Also I think I go for too many cross-up attempts… kind of a bad habit of mine I think, particularily after punch lariat knock-down which is a cross-up attempt that rarely ends well for me. A dropped combo here and there against Ste, but generally I think I just didn’t punish him enough for jumping.
Against wywywywywywywywywywywywywywywywywyywywy. That’s a tough match-up when the Sim knows what he’s doing and a I would chalk some of my inflexibility in approaching up to lack of sim experience (a quite common concern with everyone who met wywywywwywy in battle yesterday) Again I see my eagerness for cross-up splash was one of my downfalls which actually resulted in me edging Sim into a corner and then simply crossing him up and letting him out again. Really stupid of me. One other instance where I could have got a round was after I landed knees -> Atomic suplex. I went for cross-up followed by a standing jab followed by jumping backwards splash. I was going for tick into ultra off the standing jab, which maybe whiffed on Sim making the jab end quicker and causing me to randomly jump back, but that’s no-one’s fault but my own execution. I’m still immensely happy to get one match against a good Dhalsim player. I got in on Dhalsim a few times it seems, but my main problem seems to be staying in on him. wywywywwywy knows the approach methods Zangief uses pretty well, and I think EX hand is a little inadvisable at times, but I think thats more an issue with me using it at the wrong range.
Like I said earlier if anyone has any insight they’d like to share with my break-down of those matches please let me know. I’d like to know if I missed anything regarding things I did wrong.
Oh and yes, jumping onto Dhalsim’s ultra was stupid. I honestly thought I had the range to clear it lol.
i cant seem to find any vids of ‘janlo’ zangief, sorry if i spelled it incorrectly, but i think he is the SBO guy who qual’d with fubarduck…
i havent found a single vid of him, i checked street fighter dojo too
Duffath,
I’m not a pro and I have not played any tournies so take my opinion with that in mind. Concerning both Rog and Sim, I felt that you were very aggressive. My point with this is that you were always advancing towards your opponent after you were knocked down in the air. This led to free hits by rog and sim. Rog would get you with a headbutt or a sliding punch. I noticed that ROG would jump backwards and get you because you started advancing. Sim would get two consecutive far HPes on you. You could have avoided the second easily by blocking. My point here is to minimize your damage by recognizing the trend and by stopping it. Maybe you were getting more frustrated with the keep aways. I don’t know. How were feeling towards the end of each match?
Some finer points:
Concerning Rog: I think Rog’s game brings the match to Z so I don’t think it’s necessary to always be chasing him. I like to jump up/backwards at times and see if he went for a slam or punch. If so, that’s usually a free SPD or EX-GH. Some distance could help you react with a lariet on his non-ex specials.
Concerning Sim: Yes, it’s very important to close the gap. Of course, you know this but keep track of his ex and ultra meter. He gets a wicked anti-air with super. Mix up your jumpin attacks. From far away, you mostly jumped in empty into a EX-GH. This worked at first but he got used to it and blocked and threw you several times. Try using jumpin mk more often. I don’t think you ever did this with sim. It usually trades with him if he sticks out a leg and puts him in hit stun which benefits you. On his wakeups, you had better results with a jump up attack versus a crossup. You basically won the first game with this because he couldn’t slide away.
Again, I’m no pro but those are my suggestions.
EDIT: I just read your post again and you did mention some of the points I listed. =)
Thanks for the input. I haven’t used aerials that much in recent times against Sim, because then Sim gets a free S.Fierce on my landing.
Yeah the crossup thing was a terrible habit though… I let him out of the corner about three times doing that rubbish.
Is it true that Zangief can short hop? If this is true is there a video of it being done with and explaition?
After seeing this LATEST qualifier from a pro sim and gief… maybe the match up should now be 5-5. Because if sim can maintain the distance between himself and gief perfectly then its even since gief would destroy sim if he got close.

Itabashi and Iyo. Both grandmasters I might add. I was slightly disappointed with itabashi at a few key “close-in” moments. There were times he could have jumped in when he didn’t and when he did he got clobbered. So I can say he never guessed correctly almost at all times. There are also times in the video were he did a pointless KKK lariat thinking that it might hit Iyo’s limbs. Well… since that didn’t work the number of times he did it why did he bother?
I’d like more inputs since Iyo played an almost flawless match up there. That kid is bloody good.
I don’t like the haggar costume. I think thats a major flaw in the video. Theoretically it can reduce playing performance by about 3% which might not seem like much but every percentage counts.
Red underpants go faster. Everyone knows red is the fastest color.
First of all pants is a huge boost in performance. Not sure about color specifics though…
duffath,
You came from Scotland -> Manchester to attend this RanBat or you stayin in Manchester …
Here goes my suggestions(Im not a pro)
Against Rog : Dont try to crossup everytime, One bad habit with most of the Rog players is they will do wake-up Buffalo Headbut, Just block and get an easy Hp.SPD. After 2 or 3 times they wont do headbutt, Now do your crossup combo’s. And dont do empty jump-ins when Rog’s revenge meter is full.
Against Sim : Again dont do empty jump-ins, you can trade hits with MK while jumpin, sometimes you can get clean hit. Sim blocked some of your GH. If you are not sure wether you will get knockdown or not… just try to backdash after GH.
Thats it bro
lol, IDK why I did so many close lariats in the first round. But the second round is funny as hell.

Lol I live in manchester at the moment.
LOL. Second round was FUNNY as HELL. The dude stuffed all your lariat attempts. Gief’s ultra ftw. So much damage. I kind of was happy deep down that the balrog won because he deserved that round atleast. lol.
My suggestions into ticking into those SPDs with HP is just cr.jab into hp.SPD (40 more damage is never too bad). People find this very difficult to react to seeing the jab block gives an okay block frame and the SPD comes out in 2 frames. No need to cr.jab and cr.lk. I notice when the ryu’s and ken’s are mashing DP they have to “foresee” my jab into spd or it will be too late.
Or I simply prefer to body slam and go straight to an atomic suplex. Very hard to avoid. Be sure to pause a little bit or your throw might whiff.
Also with balrog I don’t know if its just me being psychic but I can always tell when his about to dash 80% of the time. If you feel the balrog will dash instead of lariating on reaction try to throw in a lp.spd. I did this twice to a rog and he was scared shitless into doing any dash punches. Funny stuff.
Man I thought you were going to pull through in the second round. Nice ULTRA after the GH.
Only note is if you’re doing GH to catch up on distance then just do lp, less overall start/active/recover time and the same distance. I think if you pulled lps before finishing with EX, you would have beaten him to his super.
Awesome game overall.
