Flash played pretty much the same the whole time, but you did really well the first half of the first round and poorly after that. It’s much more helpful for you to think about what you did differently than for us to tell you, so what differences do you notice?
By the way, I think the Viper matchup is pretty even. I’ve talked with FlashM about this, and he’s gradually come to agree.
your right… i just noticed… i had viper in the corner in first round… and crosed her up. freeing… her … i was better off doing a knee press that dint cross up and apply pressure from there… good point out
Don’t just focus on that, that’s just a potential payoff from a successful application of strategy. The more important question is, how’d you get to a situation where he’s cornered and knocked down in the first place?
THX… Think I got it now. Dont jump on Sagat. Commit to ex green hand for the knock down when Sagat throws Tigers(make sure not 2 get the one hit version).
KKK lariat High and low tigers to build meter…(just dont get hit by a follow up tiger shot duing lariats active frames )
You need to wait more. What happens when somebody picks SAGAT( Akuma Sim SETH). You can and will win that match up if you practice Patience.
This goes out to all GRIEF USERS… IF you Don’t learn Defence /Patience You might as well pick another Top-tier he is the hardest to Master out of the top 3. Which I think are Ryu, Sagat, Grief so far.
what mistakes I saw.
I only watched the first two rounds thought.
5 sec into round 1 you got blasted by Vipers groung pound! You cant block when you walking foward. Learn to creap walk with Zangief. inch your way in.
step then block down back.(inch by inch)
also kick larit blows though Vipers Ground Pound.
30sec in you got hit by ground pound again. Walking toward again.
42 sec(you jump in at the wrong time) in you had the life lead but you still pressed foward. Let Viper come 2 you. The Viper Player could have ultra’ed U.
Zangief suck at chasing/ getting in/ it takes patience.
44 sec in where’s the punishment… you back dashed?
117 walking foward again. Cant block when walking foward.
124 wiffed green hand got punished
126 you jumped got anti aired again. Looks like you tried to jump out of vipers walkup command throw when you should have 720 after Vipers C.mk to shock punch.
" 126 you jumped got anti aired again. Looks like you tried to jump out of vipers walkup command throw when you should have 720 after Vipers C.mk to shock punch."
Viper doesn’t have a command throw…
And Viper is safe on her mp TKs. Not a good idea to try to grab after them.
Flash has been around for a while. Known tournament player.
Things that tournanment players look for…
wiffs
Jump ins
Unsafe moves
^^^^ all the above = free damage.
zangief dont wiff
lariats, 360, and heavy moves/slow moves.
Players live off punishing these 3 moves Zangief dont give them what they want.
use Zangief’s Kara throw lp+lk If they try to jump straight up out of you 360 grabs.
BTW
( dont lariat all the time use safer anti airs mix them up use… Jumping headbutt air to air, C.mp, close s.lp, far s.RH)( when your Anti air lariats are losing)
Jumpins… dont get dragon punched. Its ok 2 jump in. Just dont get punished for it.
I see a lot zangief’s including me jumping in way too much.
remember to empty jump/ use the zangief jump glitch too.
Un safe moves
And for the love of god. Make sure they never block your ex green hand.
Like failing to convert short’s/jab’s to Ex green hand combos. (Say you go for random green hand and the block that ish)
One more thing be careful about waking foward…
Good player will try to hit you as you step foward. Tread carfully.
Flash Metroid is a seasoned vet and he really figured you out after you went in for like 3 grabs in a row straight off in the first round. Even though grabbing takes away a lot of health, you can’t rely on that for the majority of your damage dealth in a SFIV round with Gief. It’s like playing “rock-paper-scissors” and you tried to play “rock” every turn.
Overall, it feels like you don’t really have much knowledge of the high level viper matchup. You should find some good viper players to spar with and understand what’s going on with the matchup in general. Like that other dude said, patience is key if you want to succeed in tournaments with Zangief.
Itabashi vs Nova. Itabashi still loses. I think he jumps way too much.
But he does use C.MK to go under High tiger shots like 7 times.
If Sagat’s chucking fireballs at you, C.MK and KKK Lariat will keep him honest a bit. Both move you forward ever so slightly, so it’s only a matter of time before you get into EX GH range or corner sagat.
Aggressive Sagats may try to counter, such as kara tiger knee to hit you out of lariat after a slow low fireball.
Eric Kim did low tiger FADC forward, heard my lariat, then ultra’d me :wasted:
There’s not a whole lot sagat can do to prevent you from C.MK under high tigers short of FADC’ing a high tiger and then doing something to punish the whiff. Even then, the total Frames of C.MK is 27… Sagats FADC is 21 frames. Anything beyond green hand range (i.e. when you’d do it) can’t be punished.
And there is the crux of the arguement. By doing C.MK or lariat, you are getting Sagat to do things OTHER than fireballs… which in turn makes bulldogging more effective.
Him doing a Tiger Knee can be countered by EX Green hand preemptively, or With Ultra if he used the EX Knee. (most normal knees are done safe, but blocking them standing gives you a better shot).
Even if he’s safe after a knee, he’s left in a situation where he has to jump/backdash/or uppercut or risk being thrown. That’s in your favor.
