Foehammer + Cthulhu + Sanwa = good to go?

My Hori Fighting Stick 3 has three buttons that don’t work anymore and I’ve never been happy with the button quality to begin with. Ever since I’ve played on a Vewlix cab at Planet Zero here in Houston, those cheap Hori buttons haven’t been cutting it.

I was considering getting a Hori V3 and maybe modding it, but I figured, why not just build one with the parts I want in the first place and hopefully it’ll be the last stick I’ll need to buy/build.

I’ve built a MAME cabinet before, so I have some experience with wiring control panels. That was years ago, though, and using Happ parts connected to a keyboard encoder.

I’m thinking of getting a FoeHammer DIY case, a Toodles Cthulhu PCB, and Sanwa parts and the requisite wires and making myself a joystick controller. Will all this work together as expected? Is there anything I should be aware of when going this route? Has anyone here done this, and are you happy with the result?

I’ve read the stickies and most of them seem to be about buying or modding or building the case from scratch. I didn’t see a whole lot of info about building one with a pre-made empty casing.

I realize this is kind of vague, but I’m mostly looking for advice, heads-ups and experiences from anyone who knows about this sort of thing.

Yea, you should be good to go! I redid my HRAP with sanwa parts and a new paewang pcb. Just make sure you also get some nice case feet and a neutrik

you’re pretty much golden with all those. thats basically all you need. if there are any problems with wiring or unresponsive parts then any person here can help you with your problems.

but yea, foehammer with cthulhu and sanwa is pretty much the first and last stick you’ll ever need.

Buying a premade empty case actually save a bit of work. Yes alot of guides cover making cases but they do that to cover everything. Just take what you need from the guide.

Be sure to get screw buttons to your foehammer case, so you won’t end up screwing the plexiglass while mounting the buttons.

Cool, now I just need to wait for my tax return to come in.

Thanks for the responses. I’ll post pictures when it’s done.

there is a section on slagcoin.com.Under PCB and wiring.
With the cthulhu, you don’t need to solder the button and joystick signals, instead you shove exposed wire into screw terminals.

Are there any more “economical” options for a pre-made blank case?

I like the look of the foehammer but finances won’t allow that big of an investment

It’s pretty much the same price as what I’ve seen for the basic Foehammer though. “Economical” starts (usually) $50/shipped from what I’ve seen. Custom anything WILL run you nearly $150/shipped. Case ($50), Joystick + Buttons ($50), PCB + wires/quick-connects ($50). If “finances” are a concern, it really is better off trying to find a TE or equivalent for around $100 at the moment.

If you go directly to the Foehammer site, you have more economical options than at, say, FocusAttack. There is a case for only $60, which is probably the one I’ll be getting. It’s poplar, which isn’t as durable as maple and doesn’t look as nice stained, but it’s cheaper, so I’ll probably get it and paint it. FocusAttack only has the one case in either painted or unfinished for $100 or $120, respectively. Plus you can choose 6 or 8 buttons and other options directly from FoeHammer.

nice…thanks!
