Focus Attack -> Siberian Blizzard

I didn’t see anything on this anywhere, so I made a video and threw in the complimentary silly music to accompany a silly situation. Far as I can tell it only works on the characters I showed.

T.Hawk - Easy
Zangief - Easy
Rufus - Easy
Honda - Easy-Medium
Hakan - Kinda Easy
Gouken - Easy-Medium
Abel - Medium
Blanka - Kinda Easy
Vega - Kinda Easy
Balrog - Kinda Easy
Sagat - Easy
M.Bison - Medium

I felt really close on Deejay and Seth but didn’t get it and I dunno how tight the timing is. Theoretically the FRAME you jump is the fastest you can do this because of the way I buffered it, but I don’t think I hit ANY of this with frame-tight timing. Deejay and Seth felt REALLY close, and maybe Viper? Not sure on her, still up in the air. But I did personally test all 35 characters. Some of them I didn’t try very hard on (Fuerte, Dhalsim, Cammy) but others I busted my ass on (Deejay, Seth, C.Viper) and just couldn’t hit it on them. If anyone lands it on a character that’s NOT these 12, please post it up or video response my video or something. I gave my personal luck with hitting it consistently compared to the other characters. I tried several different timings, and as far as consistency this is what I got. Might be different for others, and I might’ve just fucked up cause I did ALL my testing in like 20 minutes tops for all characters.

I still didn’t get SSF yet (silly mail) - but I was just thinking about that last night…
like, damn, guess there’s no more stun->focus->ultra combo anymore with U2

but that kinda rocks. :smiley:

though it feels like a glitch if it works on just some of the cast.

with a lvl. 2 FA on rufus you should be able to do it every time.

Is this not possible if you dash cancel the focus? I couldn’t get it at all (had been dashing everytime).

well, it’s a lot harder. you do not Dash, because then you weill come out of the animation just before the opponent counts as airborne during the crumple, so that you can buffer the motion during the animation. If you dash, you have to do instant U2 without buffer, which I guess is almost as hard as standing 720.

Yeah, while you can TK the 720 and do it IMMEDIATELY, the opponent is not airborne yet if you dash after the FA and it will whiff. However, if you do not dash you can buffer the first 360 RIGHT as Gief is recovering from the FA and then pause a split second and do the next 360. The goal is to end on up forward and hit three kicks so you Siberian Blizzard immediately off the ground, after they’ve gone airborne, but before they fall too low to get grabbed. If you just try to dash and wait and then straight 720 you will jump too early and your Siberian Blizzard won’t be low enough for it to work.

And I noticed in the sonichurricanedotcom Day Six vid a few people were saying they knew about FA U2 since “announcement.” I guess they mean they knew FA = airborne but I didn’t think anyone had found a way to actually combo into it until I posted the vid cause I hadn’t seen it anywhere. Judging from the lack of view/replys I get the feeling either people just flat out don’t care, or it was some sort of unwritten common knowledge.

At least I didn’t know about it until Maj showed it in his video. I managed to do it after a trade on day 1 though, on the way down from the jump.

I’m surprised that more people didn’t know about this, since Focus Attack -> Air Throw works off of the same mechanic.

It’s just that it’s not obvious. You can’t do Focus Attack -> Dash like with everything else, and you can’t do Focus Attack -> Jump like with Guile. You have to do Focus Attack -> Wait and hide a 360 in there and the timing for it is kinda weird. For the people that tried to do Focus Attack -> Dash, they probably thought that Siberian Blizzard’s hitbox didn’t do low enough to grab it and stopped trying. I know even after doing Focus Attack -> Wait I still had some trouble getting down the timing so I didn’t jump and do it before they were registered as airborne.

I can make it work, but i won’t use it online since it’s character bound, and hence seems like dodgy programming more than anything. (i.e. I consider it a bug)

I tried it out briefly on gief and I was able to land it pretty consistently. Just don’t dash out of the FA and do an instant U2. I also practice some instant U2s in training mode. It’s pretty easy if you buffer it from a short or jab. I was able to do it on reaction to tatsus. It was pretty neat. I can see it being a pretty reliable anti air but most people are already conditioned not to jump at gief.

There should just be a big note at the top of the gief forum saying, NO YOU CANNOT U2 OFF OF A JUGGLE. I tried all sorts of variations last night. Nothing connects. It’s not possible. I even tried it off of an AA GH, AA Focus Level 3, late KKK lariat. Nothing. You can’t land U2 off of juggle.
