Adam, a friend of mine wants to know how you modded your 360 d-pad to make it more responsive.
PRINGLES
or buy a ps3
ps - brawl is totally a fighter
as far as i can tell you take characters, hit buttons that attack, and kill the character after doing some damage. Also, theres combos, throws, blocking, mind games and a bunch of other stuff. This seems very fighterish to me.
If NASCAR can be considered a sport, then I don’t see why Smash can’t be considered a fighter.
You kill the character, who can kill themselves, the only way there is to kill them: to knock them off a platform. That’s platforming to me. Not fighting. Next time I play King of the Hill with friends (if that ever happens for some random reason) I’ll be sure to tell people it was really fighting because I threw them.

its fairly simple mod just gotta get it open. and besides Brawl is just a glorified party game but Melee now that’s a fighting game.
oh boy super smash brothers
good times good times
the game is a action packed adventure platformer with a slight fighters twist.
Seriously, platforming?
Lets go over the details. The goal of a platformer is to get from point A to point B while jumping over enemies and holes.
The goal of a fighter is to punch and kick the other person until they are dead.
Which one is does smash have more in common with? If you put a hole in the middle of a street fighter level would you say its a platformer? Is soul caliber a platformer because you can knock them off? Don’t even start with “ya but you can kill them normally too.” As if getting the people in smash to a level where the next hit is going to send them flying away almost automatically isnt the same exact thing. If I built a custom level that is entirely enclosed what type of game does smash become then? What if we built a level where its possible to run off the edge but impossible to be knocked off and then said whenever you get to over 200 percent you have to kill yourself? How is that not a fighter. What if soul caliber let you knock them off the stage at any time given proper position or, if you win “normally,” the final hit would extend to an animation that sent them flying. The game play would be exactly the same and yet the resulting death would be the same thing as smash. As to being able to kill yourself, thats 90 percent of what fighting games are. The reason tj can pick characters he sucks with in sf4 is because the rest of us kill ourselves. Each time i jump for no reason in sf4 is just like walking off the damn edge in smash.
Never in my Mario playing existence did I say “i should cancel the recovery time of move A, fake a throw, and then hit them” and yet ive thought that in both smash and street fighter. Then again, maybe i just didnt understand those flying koopas.
Destructoid probably thinks your view is elitest because your view that its not a fighting game makes no sense and is probably based entirely on the fact that a bunch of 13 year old white nerds is the target audience.
brb, going to play klonoa 2 so i can implement those platforming skills i will be practicing into my smash game. I’m sure they will help me block, space, and mix up the evil enemy hole that i have to face.
ps - i opened this so i could say please dont lose my coffee cup.
i wish i could go on vacation
It’s in the car I think still.
And if you made a custom level completely enclosed, no one could win, because you can’t leave the platform. You could certainly turn on Stamina mode but then it wouldn’t be what the game is supposed to be. Nintendo doesn’t even consider it a fighter. They consider it Vs Action. And I don’t remember a fighting game where you use random ass items to combat someone either. Then again I didn’t play Castlevania on Wii but I don’t know if you get the items in the level or if they’re set for you. The goal of Smash is to be the last one on the level, using the level and items provided, not even to fight the other person really. If I could win in Street Fighter without hitting the other person and could push them off then block the edge (which you can do in smash especially if you’re Dedede) then I’d be set, wouldn’t I? The other person is just another obstacle in a platformer.
I’m just waiting for people to start saying Mario Party is a strategy game. You travel around a map and get coins for various tasks/minigames/etc. Don’t you do the same in Civ or any other RTS? SRPG’s?
Power Stone.
ok so Smash wants again is a fighter with action adventure/ platformer elements
the only issue is the actual gameplay when u play this game your umping doing some mix ups here and there whiffing throws some bnbs if thats what u wanna call them but its also
a childs fighting game there really isnt that sense of complexity that a legit fighting game has
I have a new aim, AnisakisSimplex
add me or not
But they turn off all the items and play one on one
its kinda hard if the goal is to be the last one around when the only stage you play is the long flat one and theres no way for the other person to fall off then if you dont beat them to death
so the entirety of your objections dont fit at all with how the game is played in the competitive fighting game community. And this what nintendo wants and thats not how you have to play it objections dont work, its clear we are speaking of it as they play it competitively. Noone cares if you and your friends play with all the items on. Then again, even if you have the items on it doesnt change how the game is fundamentally played, which is what defines a fighting game. Not how the game determines a victor, which is what you are fixated on. Forest and trees buddy.
And guarding the corner with dedede sounds like controlling a level just like locking your ass in the corner with eddie is in guilty gear. Hmm… proper control of level, seems very platformy to me… I remember that time jake juggled me to the wall in tekken and then i died because unblockable taunt combo cant be escaped if he has you pinned against the wall, but thats totally different i guess. After all, I didnt fall down a hole so it must be a legit tactic in a fighting game.
And a sense of complexity that a legit fighting game has isnt a genre definer, its a personal preference of whether you like the game or not. Certainly those naruto games are fighting games and they arent complex. Refusing to believe something is a part of a genre because its not complex enough is almost the definition of elitism. Remember guys, its not a movie its a film… Besides, when it comes down to it marvel is space block high low and counter throw. Guilty Gear is the same, sf is the same, and smash removes the high low and increases emphasis on space. So, you may have slightly less options… but i wouldnt say guilty gear is more complex than sf4 because you can high jump and air dash.
would you say GG is more complex than sf4 cause it has a rocknrolla witch and a transvestite nun with a yoyo and sf4 only has mexicans and fat guys?
furthermore, is a corn dog more complex than a hot dog because theres a stick?
yes the corn dog is more complex. Also we playing today anywhere i’m working saturday then seeing Video games Live afterwards and Sunday is meh.
Come on, corndogs have cornmeal attached to them. They take much more effort to prepare than a hotdog. Let’s not even get into the time consuming process that you simply refer to as “theres a stick.”
And how did this smash bros nonsense get started? More importantly, why is Nate so fired up on it? Shouldn’t you be relaxing on vacation right now?
I got Kyle stick in the mail today, so we now have a 29th ps3 arcade stick. Go team pittsburgh!
im not fired up, its a professional hazard. as a group of people we are incapable of arguing normally. that said, im still right.
also, glory to the neighbor for unsecured wireless
Sorry about the picture message Nate, figured I’d give you incentive to go play with kitties at the shelter
I’m heading home tonight so Jake your stick and controller will be torn apart by 5am. I’m probably gonna order a Cthulu and IMP board to make my SE compatible with PS3 as well so if that’s a success I can help others out with it. I’m sure Lang could do the same.
i’m with jake on this one
also to jake
tomorrow sometime after 5 i’ll be down
should i bring anything?
I’m getting my new stick and my own copy of the game today  I just cant find my ps2 power cord so i cant trade it in towards the stuff
