Fixed - Static discharge killing my HRAP

This sounds like a weird problem.
Lately my HRAP EX has been dropping the connection to my PC quite a few times.
Replugging in the USB cable fixes this.
It seems that the cause might be static electricity. My couch makes me statically charged. I feel a short spark when I touch the bolts or backplate of the HRAP and then sometimes the stick disconnects.
Also, yesterday my cat bumped into me while I was playing and at the same time, the stick shut off :wonder:; doesn’t seem like a coincidence.
I assume there are no plastic replacement backplates available for the HRAPs. I am not too handy, so making one myself is not an option.
Maybe I should slap some electrical tape on the outer metal parts of the HRAP?
BTW: my PC is not grounded. Different USB port does not change anything.

Fixed:
2 weeks ago I lined the entire inside of the backplate with electrical tape and slapped some on the bolts on the front of the stick as well.
The stick hasn’t disconnected unwantedly since.

LOL… I have the same problem with my Hrap EX and other Hrap too, on my xbox360. I get shocked when I touch the bolts and it disconnects. Definately a static electricity problem. There must be some way to isolated the PCB better from the other metal parts in the stick. I might open her up again and see where the problem is coming from. There must be some metal on metal somewhere that is causing the issue.

Hmm, there’s anti-static spray you could buy (seriously) don’t know how well it works but worth a shot I guess.

burn your couch. this is street fighter, baby!

Microscopic hadoukens? Sounds like Gadouken! Talk to dan he might know whats up :wgrin:

That’s why you never put electronics on the floor. No consoles, tv, computers should ever be on the carpet. Could be the pcb inside your hrap, put a project box over it like from slagcoin.com to protect it from static charge.http://www.slagcoin.com/joystick/example2.html

Metal and electronics don’t mix well. Pcb is probably grounding itself out on some metal inside the stick, Manufacture defect ???

OSU students do it for football, do it for Street Fighter. :looney::lol::confused:

Nah. He’s probably pressing the punch buttons too fast.

I couldn’t find any link between the PCB and metal parts of the HRAP.
I have lined the entire inside of the backplate with electrical tape and slapped some on the bolts on the front of the stick as well.
The stick hasn’t disconnected unwantedly since. Been playing a lot, even with the HRAP on my lap while wearing statically charged pants.

I bet the static was arcing to the PCB somehow. Nice to hear to fixed the problem, if I wasn’t so lazy I’d do the same to my HRAP.
