they aren’t defending it
they are saying that that is not even close to the main reason why the game isn’t selling.
it came bare bones without any content that is been taking months to release after the original start.
input is mostly something that is negligible among the casual fan.
they aren’t wrong in wanting the input delay removed…its just that you are presenting it to the wrong audience.
certain things like whiff punishment which is almost a non factor because of the lag isn’t something that the casual fan is really worried about
they just want to press buttons.
not saying that they cannot identify the lag. its just something that they would identify after the fact after they spent the money for it.
its tough to quantify this because of the fact that the game wasn’t heavily promoted what did it have like 1 commercial that ran for a week?
the game was mostly promoted to the player base that was already immersed in street fighter before and so they would recognize things like the delay
People are defending it though… LI Joe came out with his statement in full defense of the 8f of lag recently. So people are in fact defending it and the game itself. Which is hypocritical when just a year ago they were all livid about the laggy PS4 port of Ultra and would never tolerate a SF4 version with 8f of lag. SF5 has largely been lauded despite all of it’s flaws and promoted as the end all be all of competitive fighters regardless of the game’s poor build state, which is ridiculous. Incredibly the damage to casuals got worse with the more recent security hack into customers PC. Another huge stain on the game that casual non competitive players are upset with. That too has been treated very lightly here and defended as “fixed”, despite the fact that the malicious system breach/rootkit is not actually removed by the new rollback patch at all. The rootkit still needs manual removal by users who may not be savvy enough to do so and thus still have compromised PC’s due to Capcom and SF5. I would really like to here which other game has violated players privacy & security like SF5 just did… So sure the 8F of lag is horrid, but it’s just one of the many things on a somehow still growing list of problems this game has been plagued with.
The one I can think of is a few years ago the fun we had with Electronic Arts’ Origin.
There was some shady stuff, but ring0 level is a whole different story.
Didn’t even know what the fuzz was about, a patch might mess something up and gonna be hotfixed. Thought it was a joke until the pastebin.
I don’t want to be the guy @ Symantec explaining myself on monday.
oh!
well thats completely idiotic lmfao i was simply talking about the statement that the delay is the reason that casuals arent buying the game which is so removed from the reasons that they wouldn’t purchase it
you would only have a issue with that after you purchased the game
but no defending the lag is idiotic
it pretty much removes one of the core values of fighting games… whiff punishment the neutral looks different and at times looks fragmented simply because of the shit that people can get away with.
the days of CRT and playing old school shit were easier.
Man that’s a shame. What are guys like LI Joe thinking? My guess is that, some guys like that just want to be positive because they care so much about the community, they want the game to be as big and successful as possible so they say stuff like that, apologize for capcom because they think that’ll influence more people people to buy and play the game. I don’t agree with that, I would never lie neither to myself nor the community for an end, and it doesn’t work for a few reasons one of them being people aren’t stupid and another is that people can smell bullshit from a mile away even if someone with a “name” is speaking it, even subvoncioisly people can detect lies, in the end it just hurts your own credibility when you talk BS or are biased trying to sugar coat things or rationalize things. That’s really a shame.
However, when you tell Truth and speak Truth, it gets spread and inspires people, it is influential because they know you’re talking truth, it holds weight, it is strong, it carries. Doesn’t matter who you are or how well known or not well known you are. That statement doesn’t make sense to left brain thinkers, but it’s a fact, it’s esoteric right brain stuff, that’s why I always tell the truth and I recommend others do the same (and of course you should always tell the truth just because it’s the right thing to do and makes you a better person!!).
SF4 had multiple versions with different sets of input delay. Arcade, PS3, PC and 360 all have different input delays between them. Of course people would bitch since 360 version was the competitive standard. SF5 is just PS4 and PC and input delay is the same for both. There isn’t a better version competitively speaking with SF5.
What i would like to know: How do you get to the point of saying: "You know what a game like this needs to make it exciting? Inconsistent footsies and more reads than reactions.
Everytime i boot up this game i am quickly reminded of the fact that when you DP a jump in you have to do it before the dude started jumping well telegraphed or you will lose the battle.
The insane exaggeration of some people regarding the netcode is nuts. Yes, it is not as good as KI but saying things like " reactions are impossible " and " doing the DP before they even jump" is straight up bullshit.
Yes, some matches will be laggy and the game’s indication of the connection is way too forgiving, some matches pass as 5 bars when in reality they shouldn’t be, but guess what These laggy ass connections would suck regardless of the game you are playing.
This is my experience on PS4 atleast, I can jab punish Bison’s forward dash when he is in footsies range, i guess i am a Jedi then by these standards.
I don’t think anyone is truly exaggerating how bad the online can be. Most online matches I ever had made it impossible to dp on reaction. And if my dp actually did hit it would get rolled back and I would eat the jump in. Just because it doesn’t happen to you doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen at all.
Online Rollback matches can be extremly bad, I had some on Fightcade too.
All Capcom has to do is to fix the one sided rollback and put some more love into the Netcode itself. I still think we miss a framebuffer in the netcode,to compensate rollback.
And if you can’t dp online, you won’t be able to do it offline too. The difference between online and offline in SFV is rollback,no rollback and it’s the same.
Some people keep using this as a reason to defend the game but I can play many other fighters and not have the same shitty issues that I do online in SFV. Lol
Even other games with rollback netcode.
I agree with this except for not being able to dp offline if you can’t online. Because I know I can and so can lots of other people. Like most people don’t spend years gaining experiences in many different fighters and being able to do reversals in said games while suddenly not being able to in SFV and it be their fault. When the connection takes a sudden spike it can cause input delay. It happens even if SFV has rollback netcode. It happened during the betas and continues to still persist more than a year later in the full game. I agree that rollback is one of the main issues but it isn’t the only issue.
I play other fighters too and I don’t have that many issues with SF5, especially since I upgraded to fiber. This simply means that when the netcode is not optimal (and doesn’t have ways to hide the lag like delay netcodes) the shittiness of connections becomes more visible.
