Hello, I’m new to SRK. Even though I’ve played Capcom fighters in the past, I just recently picked up Street Fighter V AE, played a few matches for the first time, and went 2-10 with Akuma. I lost a lot, but the feeling of accomplishment of winning a few rounds overpowers feelings about losing. I understand that losing is a part of the learning experience, but I feel good about not being completely bodied like in Dragon Ball Fighterz.
I probably feel more confident in SF than in other fighters like Dragon Ball Fighterz (I always get blown up), Tekken (I’m too spooked), and Blazblue (too spooked).
And I know some people are gonna pull a Low Tier God and chastise me for my character choice, but I just always liked Akuma and felt comfortable with him. I do want to try other characters, but I feel I should focus on one character at a time.
So what did your first win feel like when you were new? What motivates you to stay on the arduous road of getting gud?
Also are there any players in the Sacramemto area? I’m trying to find a local scene to practice with
First of all never give a shit about what other people think of your character choice. Play who you want to play.
I can’t say I really remember my first win, it’s been so long, but I can definitely say recognizing that you’re getting better is one of the best feelings in the world. Maybe you beat a player you’ve been having trouble getting a round on, or a character that’s supposed to be better than your own, or maybe you just finally landed a combo you’ve been working on in training in an actual match. Having a learning curve in a game leads to a more rewarding experience overall IMO and fighting games are a great example of this.
As far as my personal motivation I’d have to say it’s just to be taken seriously as a competitor. If I enter a tournament I want to feel like the other people there are at least a little bit worried about having to go up against me.
I guess that’s what attracts certain people to fighting games, being able to see their results after a certain period of time. So you’re a tourney player, and you like people to see you as good competition. I’m not sure if I will enter tournaments, perhaps one day. I do want to find a local scene to play with though.
Since you’re already here on SRK, check out the matchmaking section first to find people in your region. If you can’t find anything there try searching Facebook for a group near you. Good luck.
