First pictures ~ earliest preview of Street Fighter II?

I’d like to see the oldest preview, the first images published in magazines of
Street Fighter II. I would imagine they’d be from Japanese mags.

my contribution is the first look from EGM Number 21, April 1991:

no doubt, this mini-article was done earlier in 1991, (Jan-Feb?)
given magazine lead times.

I believe this was EGM’s first-ever coverage of SFII.

This is the first time I’d ever heard about SFII, and the first pictures of it I saw.

I didn’t think much of it at the time, but a few months later when I saw SFII in arcades I was blown away. EGM’s coverage exploded soon after, as many of you probably recall.

nothing would ever be the same again…

so, does anyone have something like this froM Japanese publications from the same time or earlier?

I would love to see early Japanese magazine pictures of SFII from at or before release if SFII WW (which was Feb 1991). Not scetches but actual game screens. usually Japanese magazines, were a few weeks or even a month or so ahead of the fastest U.S. magazine (EGM).

I was thinking there has to be something on SFII in Famitsu magazine
(or Famicom Tsushin, or Family Computer Magazine, or whatever) around or prior to April 1991 since EGM did not have anything on SFII before the April 1991 first look which is linked to in this post.

thanks very much in advance.

I guess everybody knows this, but is still cool.

I remember some of that. neat stuff.

SF2 Complete File (where the scan above is from) came out during the days of Dash/Champion Edition.

I’m going to use this thread to post anything VERY old (from 1991-1992) about SFII that I deem interesting, funny, whatever.

kind funny USENET posting about SFII from April, 1991

the stuff I bolded made me laugh a little

Wow, that is pretty OG.

I FEEL OLDER THAN SAWDUSTED SHIT.

LOL. Good stuff. I’d love to bring some of the SF games we have now back into the past.

whoa now this, the stuff in bold, is something I’ve never heard before

Yep, those drawings are in the Complete File as well.

forgive my ignorance but what is the Complete File ?

If you go back to the link Hayama Akito posted above parallaxscroll, it’s the book from which those scans there are. A nearly 16-year-old book with art and narratives galore, it came out in Japan after Dash/Champion Edition debuted and before SSF2 hit the arcades.

thanks! ^

oh btw guys, I quickly snapped some pics of two EGM SNES SFII previews:

‘Russian with a cause’ is the only kind of character I ever wanted to play…

16 Megabit That’s madness, nobody can do that.

it’s funny how they failed to mention the CPS Arcade SFII WW was 58 megabit!

Ryu and Ken’s dialouge with each other in the lowest right hand corner of the first pic is VERY

oh shit i remember reading this

Dick Jumpsey for SF4!

Brings back memories of oldschool EGM.

Anyone still have the EGM with the fake Game Genie Boss code?

http://thatvideosite.com/video/655 Old School SFII: Special Champion Edition commercial… makes me miss the early 90s + the booming arcade scene… but most of all, I got a hell of a laugh from watching it.
