Hey guys, I’m getting ready to get my first joystick for MvC3, but I’m not sure which one to get. I’m looking at either the Blazblue fightstick TE From madcatz or the Real Arcade pro v3 sa by Hori. I know they both come with Sanwa parts and are the same price on amazon, but that’s about as far as I know. Which would you guys recommend? For convenience I provided a link to each product below. Thanks for the help guys!
My preference is the V3 SA, just because of box ergonomics. If you like room for your palms go for the TE. If you like the feel of playing on a cab and that slant on the stick, go for that. Other than that they’re pretty much the same product. However there are more customizable options for TEs than the Horis.
Slightly higher recommendation for the V3 SA. Hori product generally doesn’t have the reliability issues that the MC sticks sometimes do.
This has never happened to me with the Round 1 and Round 2 Mad Catz TE’s I own, but a lot of people have had issues with the PCB’s going bad. That seems to be more common with the 360 version but is not unheard of with the PS3 versions.
Both are very nice sticks otherwise but I gotta say I have a slightly higher preference for the V3 SA’s “widescreen” case. So many possibilities for the art there…! If only somebody had a plexi for it!
Another SRK member is working on a transparent lexan (plastic, similiar tto but cheaper than acrylic) faceplate cover has he gets his own V3 SA to do the measurements. You still unavoidably destroy the original artwork sticker and would be advised to replaced the original faceplate screws, too, if they’re the kind I’m thinking they are. The new joystick just can’t have an art mod without getting rid of the existing factory sticker unlike the previous-generations of HRAP’s.
there’ aren’t problems with the ps3 TE’s apart from maybe the ability to use on PC
the 360 TE pcbs are renowned for having their triggers crap out on them
edit:
also TE’s are more portable than a V3 just because of its wideness, take that into consideration too
Te is a goods stick and solid build but at the same time it feels kinda cheap other than the buttons and stick. V3 is good way plus cost as much as a TE if not cheaper and feels better. I know Chun-li TE at frys are like 160. GET V3
Yeah, the V3 SA is $20 cheaper retail. Normal price $129. The Mad Catz TE’s are $149.99 retail; the limited edition TE joysticks are usually $10 more expensive because of character license fees.
Both sticks have been sold at around $90-$100 during the Christmas holidays. The V3 SA was released in Japan in late 2009 but just had its official US debut November last year.
The Mad Catz joysticks are generally easier to get ahold in the US and Canada. Hori joysticks can be ordered through import shops but several of the models are out of production now and difficult to find at MSRP price…

I just got my TE in the mail and i like it so far…I don’t like the square gate though. And does anyone know how to take the balltop off? i dont like the shaft cover and have a different dust washer to put on.
The TE is a lot heavier than i thought it would be, which is a good thing. It feels good in the lap or on a stand in front of me. Buttons trigger instantly. The art is nice also.
you gotta take off the carriage bolts and work from the panel
The V3 SA. From my experience with Hori, or at least the HRAP series, their cases are rugged and rock solid.
I don’t like how the TE line feels. The cases on them are certainly pretty, but way too delicate feeling. I highly doubt they can take even a mild bump or drop, and emerge without an ugly scratch or dent.
Also the “glossy” look to the plastic, so fingerprints and or scratches received overtime will stick out like a sore thumb. While Hori’s sticks have that matt finish to them usually.
Then there is limited internal room. I used to own a TE and opened it up once to check out the inside, and it felt awfully CRAMPED. I know for japanese sticks due to their small parts, there is no need for a lot of room to spare anyway, but this goes double on the TEs.
Last but not least, from what i’ve read on here Hori’s PCBs are better made than Madcatz.
It is definitely a finger print magnet!! i just pulled mine out the box and it’s covered…but i was checking it out a lot. But it’s made of all metal and weighs 11 pounds…it seems pretty sturdy…but the glossy sides are prone to scratches…i already have a few.
I find myself leaning towards the BlazeBlue stick due to the bigger rest area for my palms. Are there any specific problems with the Blazeblue TE sticks in particular?
