Fire Emblem thread: Now with more permadeath!

Well, Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword(7) is probably the most agreed upon in being the best. With it being the first FE game to reach NA, it’s very popular and has tons of replay value. Sealed Sword is much harder, with Thracia probably being the most difficult of them all.

Shadow Dragon is a very, very easy game. There aren’t many units in the game that prove useful enough in favor of something else, this is merely because of the class change system. Catria>Swordsmaster will complete make somebody like Navarre look expendable. In the previous FE’s, characters that were generally seen bad still had a chance to be explored. But, Shadow Dragon has a TON of useless units not even worth touching even if you reclass them or not.

Joshua, Matthew, and Ross are my fave characters in FE.

Joshua always turned out well for me as a sword master. Gerik gives Hector a run for his money as best melee unit in the GBA games (7&8). Amelia should ALWAYS be made as a general. Ross is a boss (I’ve even taken him to endgame as a mere Pirate and he was STILL better than Dozla and Duessel). Ewan as a Druid is fucking broken.

Eirika turned out IMMENSELY BROKEN in one playthrough of mine. She had:

22 STRENGTH
29 SKILL (MAXED)
28 SPEED
25 LUCK
22 DEF (MAXED)
18 RESISTANCE

Ephraim was no different as he MAXED out everything but Resistance, Defense, and Luck, but he was 1 point away from maxing out Luck (29) and Def (22).

Artur One-Shotted every monster in the game once he was promoted to Bishop and Natasha was fucking broken as a Valkrie. I had Marisa get 64 Crit when equipped with A Killing Edge. As a Swordmaster.

Cormag with Hoplon Guard ran a train through everyone if he promotes to Wyvern Lord (Though I don’t know if that’s optimal, I did like that he got Swords though, good always use the added accuracy. All this with still 11 Levels to go before he reaches his level 20 cap. LOL.

Knoll was fucking broken as a Summoner. Eventually those little minion reach level 20, get like, 80 Avoid, and come equipped with Killer Axe’s. 3-4 of them can straight solo a map just for shits and giggles.

This was the most fun FE game to me anyway. Who wouldn’t want 10+ Broken characters that can solo a map by themselves?

Just finished the demo for the new FE on 3DS.

Lunatic is a fucking bitch and Hard mode seems easy as hell right now (others that have the game have said the same as well)

 Nephenee FTW

Went all in in this, preordered the FE 3DS and everything. LESSGO FE LESSGO

Has anyone patched the 3rd fire emblem game?
i’m having some problems trying to patch it.

So the latest Nintendo Direct announced a Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem crossover game in the works and about 13 more days before the next Fire Emblem hit the US streets.

Man, I miss old school gaming commercials from that era, companies went out of their way to do something eye catching.

Personally, my first Fire Emblem that I beat and still love remains Path of Radiance,

Thanks, I hadn’t seen they had a trailer as well.

I wonder what kind of game SMT x FE is going to be. Two different genres…I wonder if fans would be divided between those who want a traditional RPG and those who want a SRPG? Maybe it’s a combination of both?

I have not played SMT, but I hear those games are really good. Anyone care to enlighten me how they play outside of it being a JRPG. I’m pretty sure it’s going to be interested how they combine those universes, Atlas is a very good developer so I have faith this game will be sick.

People like to think of the SMT games as a demonic version of Pokemon. In each game, you play as a character that gains the ability to control various demons. Of course, the reasons are different from game to game. These demons fight your battles, as well as your own character. I’m not sure about the first two games, but from part 3 and onward, it’s game over if your character dies. Normally, you recruit demons by negotiating with them during combat, and various factors affect your success. Any demons in your party can be used to create stronger demons.

The earlier SMT games had first-person views. That changed in SMT3, but you could unlock a first-person mode by finishing the game. Strange Journey went back to the first-person view.

The game I recommend playing is SMT3: Nocturne for the PS2. I bought it off eBay for $70 about 7 years ago and it was completely worth it, but you can get it for less. Just be warned that SMT games are hard.

How many different kinds of demons are there? Is it diverse and also, are these demons controlled as tools of the character or are they similar to Fire Emblem characters where you use each individually. I know it’s not a strategy game, per say, but I was just wondering. Also, are the handheld ones half decent, I might just try to emulate them or something since I don’t have the backwards compatiable PS3 (unless they are on the PSN store, then I’ll just buy it)

There’s a large variety of demons you can recruit, easily over 100. You’re constantly recruiting and creating demons over the course of the game since they become obsolete over time. The good thing is that, with a little effort, you can choose to keep a demon for the whole game. There are ways to give them new abilities after they’ve obtained all of their natural skills. Their level cap is the same as the player’s, so it’s entirely possible to stick with a party you’ve had since level 1. You have full control over your demons’ actions.

I don’t know about the Devil Survivor games, but Strange Journey is a good game. It’s also really hard (I’m currently stuck on a major boss battle). SMT4 is actually being released for the 3DS. I’m really looking forward to it.

The old Shin Megami Tensei games had great ideas but somewhat poorly executed… retarded encounter rate btw, I gotta learn how to play with files…

The battle system, including demon recruitment was the main selling point, Demonic Pokemon is the best way to describe it…

Haven’t played the new ones but I’m sure by now they should be amazing imo…

I want that PS2 one with Dante in it… but holding the cash for MGR since I already purchased like 3 games in like the past 2 weeks…

I own both Devil Survivor games, they are good. Basically in both a disaster that heralds the end of the world occurs and you use communication devices (DS looking ones in the first game, phones in the second) to summon demons. It is a strategy RPG, where the demons essentially act as party members for the human characters in battle. Another SMT spin off that is available in the western world besides Devil Survivor is the Persona series. One of the main things like King9999 said are the demons but most of the games have had a moral aspect (law, neutral and chaos routes) and recent games, probably due to Persona’s popularity have started to include social aspects similar to Fire Emblem’s supports.

I have Strange Journey, been playing. Story is really interesting. Game-play is also interesting, it’s crazy how it’s first person hah. Combining these two games on the Wii U will be very interesting, hopefully we see something at E3!

fuck i don’t know what i did wrong but in the final chapter of shadow dragon was impossible for me.

FE8 is easy too. My lords capped everything but resistance, and there’s a lot of broken units. It’s really about giving people the right classes, and there’s a lot of belief that Colm is the best in the game. I never understood why, though.

Although Artur should be made into a Bishop, he doesn’t make a bad Sage. Extra CON is very appealing, and you could just stone trick for dark magic. I also made Cormag into a Wyvern Knight for better caps, though he’s still a beast as a Wyvern Lord. I prefer Wyvern Knight though for the extra speed, plus Pierce is a great ability over swords.

Knoll’s summons are so good. People say this dude is useless, but his summons are LOL good. Phantom’s with tomahawks? Yes, plz. He’s not useful for much else though as Ewan outclasses him by every shape and form. Speaking of Marisa, I have some playthroughs where I made her into an Assassin. She not really bad as one, but having to depend on Silencer is a joke over an extra 30+ crit. Swordsmaster all the way.

Calling it now: that magic pegusus knight is going to be broken as fuck in awakening.

You guys don’t know a hard FE game until you have played FE5. Holy fuck was that hard

And FE4 is by far the funnest Fire emblem game, I think I have about 29 playthroughs in that game alone.
