Well, finally bought and gathered all the parts for this thing, and put it all together (going by my motherboard’s manual). I turn the computer on so that I can check the BIOS, and lo and behold, my monitor isn’t working. The manual says to plug the thing (the monitor) in and it’ll work, but manuals are often stupid. So, I implore the sages of SRK to aid me in truly finishing off this computer.
I’m double checking the plugs and connectors to make sure I didn’t miss a step, but just in case it may be a bit more advanced than that, I want you folks to post any helpful suggestions or tips. Thanks a bunch.
Make sure it’s plugged into the wall socket. make sure if it’s DVI, that you screw it in tightly to the back of the computer. If you’re using a large screen LCD HDTV as your monitor, there might not be an image during post (boot process) but will show up at windows login screen.
Well, tried those, no difference. I appreciate the input so quickly, though.
I load up the computer but get no beep when it turns on. Do I have to have speakers plugged into the computer to hear it? And if not, is there an internal speaker that should be making a noise? My case is an Antec Sonata II if that matters.
At this point, I’m praying it’s not the CPU. :wasted:
Try flashing the BIOS. I have used that same board in the past and had the same issue. When I first built it I didn’t have one of the spacers on right between the case and the board and it kept shorting out. I had to flash the BIOS to get it to come up. The book can tell you right where the jumper is for the board, just pull it out and turn the power on for a second. Power it back on with the jumper in the right spot and it will hopefully work.
Is the power cable connected to the graphics card itself like it should be? may sound newbish but I know people have done that before. After plugging everything in, they forget to actually plug in one of the power plugs into the graphics card itself.
Just wanted to give an update to you all, PC’s up and running Vista perfectly (yeah, I got Vista, it runs 3dsMax so I’m fine with it). Blows my nearly 10-year-old VAIO out of the water…I was so in need of an upgrade it wasn’t even funny (money was funny for a long time, and I was always thinking I’d have to blow 3 grand for a pre-built). I’m NEVER buying a PC again, homebuilt all the way.
Thanks one more time to all you folks who helped Alpha and I in the part buying stage a while back, and everyone who gave their suggestions here. You all rock.
