Finger pain from arcade stick

The last couple days I’ve been unable to play because of some pain in my fingertips that I’m sure is a direct result of spending a lot of time on the arcade stick. Does this happen often to other people and if so how do you go about coping with it?

The only pain I noticed was in my right forearm and it was because I had never used my middle finger and ring finger before when gaming, since I was a pad player my whole life.
Pain went away after some time, guess it will be the same with you.

If the pain persists, see a doctor.

Is it a numbing kind of pain?

Not really, it just seems to be set off by pressure. It subsides for a while if I soak my hand in ice water, so I figure I’ll just do that and wait it out for a few days.

Last time I felt pain when playing was on my thumb when I was trying trying to learn Magneto’s infinite on Marvel vs Capcom 2. I never used my thumb up to learning this infinite. After about a week the pain went away because my thumb gotten used to that repetitive motion. I think this is normal and your fingers will get used to playing within time.

I’ve never had pain in my fingers when playing too much. I tend to overuse my left wrist sometimes, but that’s because I’m too loose and aggressive with my motions. If you could post a video of how you play it might help, hop into arcade mode and setup a video to record your hands. The only thing I can imagine causing finger pain would be mashing your fingertips against the buttons whenever you hit one but that’d have to be pretty forceful.

I don’t know about stick, but I experienced pain in my fingers from playing guitar and using a pad for a prolonged period of time.

I recommend soaking your fingers in rubbing alchohol for ~10min every time you finish a long session, it will dry the skin and allow callouses to form more quickly.

yeah i get a few spots on my fingers/hands that would hurt as i was getting used to the stick. If i’m playing a lot though I just develop calouses (spelling fail!) on those spots that hurt.

are you talking at the very end of your finger tips where you touch the button?

I get pain in my knuckles after extensive amounts of time playing marvel or SG. But never the fingertips. You sure you aren’t hitting the buttons too hard? Because I mean there is making sure the move comes out, and then there is trying to put your hand through the faceplate.

I’d only get that pain if I cut my fingernails too clumsy or my cat scratched my fingers, but I dont remember any other reason.
Only game I had trouble with was Vampire Savior. Trying to do a DI combo put a lot of strain on my wrist.

but when I play cross handed I dont face any issue

Yes. It’s basically just the index finger on my right hand. I took a few days off and it mostly cleared up so I played a few hours last night. I can tell it’s still there, but it’s not nearly as bad as it was.

the pain is you getting stronger

Pain comes with using an arcade stick. Happen to me while using a friend’s stick for a hour. Just rest the hands and continue

Or play on pad

The only real pain I had was muscle soreness in my right forearm when I first started to main playing on stick a couple days ago, it’s completely gone now.

I had a bit of pain from using the stick that came in my brawlstick.
The poor quality of it had me forcing motions I guess.
Swapped that out with a seimitsu LS40 for the shorter stroke and haven’t had any issues since.

I did notice that changing the way I held the stick also made a big difference in comfort and control. Maybe try changing the way you hold the stick?

It could be that your stick is badly designed. I used to get pain until I switched to a better stick. What stick/parts do you have?

and what are you used to playing on? Pad? keyboard?
