FinestKO.com Character Profiles and Frame Data - Feedback Wanted!

Do me all a big favor and tell me what you think of how I’ve got character profiles and frame data setup for Finest-kay-oh-dot-com:

http://www.finestko.com/features/characters/maki/

I’m quite satisfied with how it’s turning out, I feel I’m about 90% done with tweaking it. All I need from the peanut gallery (that’s you) is suggestions or comments on readability, how clear the information is to you, if it’s cluttered at all, information, etc. Not just the frame data, but also the character profile section as well. I can make bulk changes to the frame data changes at will.

The format for the frame data is a blatant rip-off of Famitsu, done in the style of Namonaki. I’ve gone a bit further in conveying information, though. You may notice a few extra things in there:

  • If a move knocks down, the hit advantage box will say DOWN, but there are different types of DOWN. If a move isn’t safe-fallable (all super moves), it’s a blue S.DOWN (stay down). If a move knocks someone down, but is unsafe if the other guy safe falls, it’s a red DOWN. I will have other DOWN types such as quick-ups and long-downs.

  • The green bars underneath the yellow and orange frame data indicates when and for how long the player is considered airborne. That is, if you’re hit out of the move during the airborne frames, you can’t be juggled out of it with a normal combo. Sometimes, there will be a negative number next to it, which indicates how many frames after landing from the move you will actually be on the ground but before recovering.

  • There’s frame data for the Dodge Attacks, (Alpha) Counter Attack, and the Taunt. I haven’t calculated all the frame lengths for the Taunts as of yet (I need to do this manually, as I don’t have the bible in my posession yet), but once that’s in there, it’ll be good information to have.

Some things I have yet to add that I will get around to:

-Quick jumps to each section of the frame data and back to the top of the page
-Attributes for the character like Stun, Vital and other basic properties
-The rest of the site

I’ll relaunch with profile and frame data for four characters: Maki, Kyo, Hibiki and Nakoruru. Please do not suggest characters you’d like to see, because I’ll get them all eventually, in an order of my choosing. Cammy, Blanka and Sagat will be the last three I put up, for personal reasons.

Feedback would be much appreciated before I start doing the frame data for other characters. I want to get it perfect the first time before I make a template for everyone.

good stuff, i like the layout. very easy to read.

awesome, i don’t think taunt frame data is really necessary to add in though, unless you wanna just list if it hits or not (ie: sakura’s)

I was going to that, but then it wouldn’t be consistent across all characters, so I figured I might as well put it in for everyone. People don’t know how long most taunts are exactly, so I figured I might as well tell them. Hell, they might even be able to incorporate them into their game for fun.

Example: If you land Nakoruru’s kick super (bird dive combo) and taunt immediately, you will recover just as the other guy gets up. You would not know this if you didn’t know that Nak recovers before the super finishes and the length of her taunt.

The CvS2 guide doesn’t have frame data for Taunts, not even for Sakura’s or Rolento’s so you’ll have to do it yourself. It’s gonna be a lot of work though. Even if you get the numbers, they’ll probably be approximations. In that case, you should probably put a symbol like (?) next to it so that it’s clear that the rest of your data is exact.

Also, for cancels, i personally would prefer it if you listed them individually. It sucks having to figure out what those symbols mean every time i want to know if a move is super cancelable. In paper guides, space is an issue so compression is preferred, but that’s not the case with info on a website.

You have the wrong commands for throws. It should be B+HP and F+HK for the “punch throw” and a similar mistake for the other one.

Just some suggestions … good luck with your project.

Wow, i love it. It’s neat and compact. I like how u have their background info and all that. Keep up the great work.

Beautiful. Any other chars?

And for the throws, I feel ya. You made one generic throw command and used it for both p and k throws. S’all good.

Great work! Excellent layout, appealing to the eye, organised, and easy to read.

Some tiny things. You have a small spelling error in your heading “Character Strategies”. There is an “a” where the first “e” should be in “strategies”.

The word “rescue” is mistyped in your character profile second sentence “…Hong Kong to resuce her family…”.

And Maj already pointed out the punch and kick throw notation error.

Maj:

I didn’t think the guide had the numbers for taunts, but if I were to get them, I can get the exact numbers. I’m capable of recording video at 60fps, so then it’s just a matter of counting the frames one at a time. It shouldn’t take more than an hour for all the characters.

My original plan was to list the cancels individually, but with how I had the tables setup, it proved to be an extreme hassle to get everything to look nice. However, giving the almost finished product a second look, I think I might be able to swing it this time around. Check for a possible revised update later.

As for the oops on the throws, that was a result of me accidentally turing all the button icons into light punches when I renamed all the image links to move over to the server. Dumb mistake, quick fix.

Patience, son. I’ve only got about 2 hours of free time out of a day that is consisted of work and sleep.

The character profile section I made was done months ago. I just never got around to finishing the entire page until this week. I knew about a few of the spelling goofs, but forgot about correcting them. Thanks for reminding me. You get a cookie.

There’s really nothing anyone else could do to help me as for getting things transferred to the site and such. I have the Bible scans with me, and I can print pages out and translate things at work if necessary. I would eternally prefer doing things myself and being absolutely sure that things live up to my standards (for CvS2, they are high; for everything else, they are quite low).

The only thing that would be of help would be getting the book itself. The guy who was going to get it for me apparently duped me out of $25, but I’m not too bummed about it since the scan came around. Still, I would like the perfect-quality book to make sure I’m reading that kanji and hiragana correctly.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, keep it coming.

Well, if the game runs at 60fps and you capture at the same, then that doesn’t leave you with any margin of error. What if you capture the same frame twice or skip a frame? How do you know they’re going to exactly match up? I think it might be a good idea to hold Forward with the other character while you Taunt. Although walking doesn’t change animations every frame, it does cause the character to move forward slightly on every frame. At least that would let you know if a frame was captured twice, because you would see the opponent not moving forward at all.

suggestion: you should put up a donate button/text ads so you can reap some profit off of your hard work
