Congrats to the winners! Thanks to everyone reporting results!

Dude…relax. lol Honestly, it’s not top-players’ job to teach us. They had to learn themselves, and so do we. Isn’t it enough that we can watch their videos on YouTube and what-not??? I mean, that’s more than they had when they were learning their games. You can’t seriously sit there and bitch because Justin Wong or Alex Valle won’t personally sit down in a little room with you and teach you how to play high-level Street Fighter IV. No offense, man, but you sound a little ridiculous – that’s putting it about as diplomatically as I can. Furthermore, why is this being posted in the freakin’ FRXIII results thread!!! Waste of thread space…

On a lighter note, I wanted to throw a HUGE shout-out to Kurasa for taking 3rd in TVC! Way to go, Jeff!!! You a beast! :woot:

PR Rog sent Marn to losers in SF4 I believe.

The internet was stressed the whole weekend at the hotel. they had every router in one small room with the door open and a small 20 dollar fan blowing.

I can post where ever I want… It’s up the the mods to shut me up… Sit down in and a little room and teach me… that’s a wonderful Idea… Evo 2010 should have a blue room where Top player teach who ever wants to learn. EPIC!

I Know I can Beat Top-player’s because I am one… Check yourself BRO. How bout I show u how to Play Highlevel SF4… You got Ps3, X-box live…:nunchuck: or is your friends list full???:xeye:

Lay off the drugs, homie.

Incoming essay, apologies for length.

Congratulations to the winners and those who played. Good to see a lot of solid players in a lot of games. Thanks for people posting results. Looks like there were a lot of games with good turnout and good players. I’m glad I got to see some of it, and I was largely happy with what I got to see.

Before I get into it, I want to make it clear that I appreciate the fact that there was a stream at all. I understand that I’m not owed anything, and I could just be getting second hand information in this thread or on IRC and be happy. However, there were a few things related to the stream that did not sit right with me.

First of all, certain games getting shafted from the stream left a bad taste in my mouth, with MBAA being a special case for reasons I’ll get into later. Now, it certainly wasn’t the only game to get no stream time, and I’m not saying it deserved time more than other games. I know Alpha 2 didn’t get any stream time (but it was in a cabinet, so that’s understandable). GG, BB, Garou, and KOF12 got no stream time, and KOF2k2UM got a finals match only on stream. I know there was no Smash on stream at all. I understand that there was a time crunch and you can’t fit everything in…though you did manage to get in two Tekken 6 team tournaments and arm wrestling, among other things. Whatever, there’s only so much time. I understand…

I also know that when the Melty scene wanted to run their own stream, Larry told them they could not. He said that he was trying to draw sponsors and didn’t want to take viewers away from the main stream, and that he’d put the top matches on stream for their game. Similar things could have happened with other games, but I know specifically that this is what happened with Melty.

Now, this is extremely faulty logic for a few reasons. For starters, there’s nothing stopping people from opening multiple streams at once. I know I had streams for Melty, SF4, SC4, and T6 open during NECX, and the “main” stream still had over 2000 viewers by the end. Moreover, there are a lot of people who are tuning in for specific games. You’re afraid of turning off SF4 fans by showing other games? Well, you’re doing the same thing by forcing fans of other games to watch the main stream and not letting them watch a stream for their game. Do you really think that, for example, a random Smash fan is going to watch 3 days of SF4 and Tekken just because there’s no Smash stream? No, he’s probably just go do whatever he would have done otherwise and find out the results later.

So, it’s a rule based on a false assumption. But we all love Larry, so we’re like, whatever. It might not really make sense, but we’ll let him rock. At least we’ll get to see top 8 on stream, right? Well, no, we didn’t. Understandably, a lot of us feel like we wasted a day or two watching other games, at least three of which our game outdrew in attendance, for nothing. I imagine it’s similar with other games as well. Not everybody is into every game, but if you’re a Tekken fan who hates SF4, at least you would know you’d eventually get more Tekken, and vice versa. If you’re a Guilty Gear player waiting to see some matches on stream, well, you were just fucked.

Of course, I know neither Larry nor any of the other Final Round staff was setting out to take advantage of anybody. I couldn’t imagine they would. I just feel like, if you’re going to go on a site for a game, start a thread, and promote your tournament there, hyping it up, you can give that game a little bit of burn.

Which leads me to my other main issue, Eric V. Now, I’m not saying he ruined the stream or that he was all bad. I don’t know this guy, and he might be great at commentating during other tournaments or events with no stream. I don’t know. This was my first experience with him, though, and the bottom line is that I think his performance left a lot to be desired. One problem in particular: it is my not so humble opinion that anybody responsible for running and commentating on a tournament stream should pay as little attention to stream chat as possible. Ignoring my personal opinion on this whole “shizz” business, it’s exceedingly poor for an MC to spend as much time reading chats, cracking jokes, and giggling to himelf as he does talking about the matches on screen. I’m not saying you have to be a robot, but come on.

It’s even worse when you talk over matches because of something that happened in stream chat. On one occasion he even talked over AN ENTIRE FUCKING MATCH during MBAA team finals to threaten stream randoms with banning because he believed them to be dissing the staff (which he incidentally blew way out of proportion, according to pretty much everybody). He kept repeating himself for no reason. Even the MB haters in the chat were annoyed by it. Now, here’s something to consider. If there are 1000 people watching the stream, there probably aren’t more than 100-150 actually actively in the chat, if that many. In fact, a lot of viewers pop the stream out to its own window so they don’t have to see the chat. Now, of the remaining vast majority of people, how many do you think want to know what’s going on with the match? Now, how many of those do you think want to know all about you threatening Joe Whothefuckever with a ban because you didn’t like what he said in stream chat? I’m going to go ahead and say fucking nobody. Food for thought.

Now, like I said, it’s not all bad, and I’m not trying to make it sound like he ruined Final Round or something. If I hated the dude or something, I wouldn’t be making plans to go to MTG in April. Nevertheless, these things did seriously hurt the quality of the production, and they were all very easily avoidable.

Final Round is a great event, and it sounds like this was another great one. I’ll have to find a way to make sure I make it next year.

EDIT: I understand one Smash match was streamed apparently while I was out for like an hour. When I left they were showing SF4 casuals…which just kind of lampshades my point. There were other things I kind of want to say about the situation, but I don’t feel like I should without having confirmation of some things I’m assuming.

You mad.

GS Damdai and Rico.

Can someone post the top 8 players (including what characters used) of the HDR tourney as when the info comes in?

Thanks.

What up you Shizz’n scrub!.. Lay of the Henti .:coffee:

It would have been tight to see top 8 for all games but for there first live stream they did what they had to/ could do.

Is English your first language?

someone translate please

Oh, also. I recorded a bunch of MBAA matches, I’m assuming its OK to upload those since we didn’t get a stream?
