I will second on the Arcana Heart. Last year you guys had the cab but it really wasn’t up for a while, but this year could be totally different. The game is already pretty big on the EC, and putting it in FRXI can do nothing but good for the community. The game is hyped up, and it’s guaranteed to pull in some people.

Leave Madden out. So many people would enter that, it would probably need it’s own seperate day to run. Madden players also tear HELLAS when they lose, and alot of them look down on fighters (I know plenty of madden players and encounted them while we have local tourneys; it’s usually not pretty).

HOWEVER,

If Shin is using it as a platform to get FR more mainstream, then I’m all for it. As much as I hate to admit it, Madden has a larger following than all our fighters combined, and it would give ALOT more attention to FR than just fighters alone. This in turn could be good for our community, b/c fighters would get even more exposure.

Plz have melty blood at FR11, or at least an unofficial side tourney. My friend, Chibi, Mr. Mamation and I were the only ones playing yet 15+ people said they were interested.

I would have one suggestion, and it’s one that I know will be ill recieved by a number of players. We have arcade perfect versions of every tournament game now, ST included. It’s simply impractical to run any major tournament on cabinets now. With consoles, it’s faster to run, people can use their own sticks, and there’s way less hassle overall. There’s no reason that ST should take even half as long as it did last year, as fast as that game plays.

In my opinion, everyone has adjusted - “arcade perfect” or not. We don’t have arcades around here anymore, especially not those with ST and A3. The people at this point should be used to playing on console. It’s unfortunate that it has come to this, but it’s the best decision for both economical and logistics reasons. Besides, I’m one of the guys that usually ends up moving the cabinets every year - that would be a truck less that we wouldn’t have to worry about.

Anyway, the only thing I see on that list that might have to be arcade is the 10th option. Looks like Arcana Heart is the popular choice…so that eliminates cabs altogether!

It has been “discovered” that the CCCv2 version of ST is not only arcade IMperfect, but also happens to be a laggy piece of crap.
Of course, most players already knew this but got shot down whenever anybody questioned it. I’m a scrub, but even I remember playing the original arcade ST and I thought the game NEVER felt right.

I was wondering what it was about CCC2 ST. I haven’t played enough arcade ST to be able to pinpoint differences in versions like others, but I knew SOMETHING was up with that version…

Keep ST (and A3?) on cabs if need be, since apparently there isn’t anything remotely close to arcade ver. (Although a lot of people are hoping STHD will be the new standard – but no one knows when it’s coming out, right, and STHD will need months of playtime before it supplants arcade ST).

Def PS2 for CvS2, because that’s where the community has gone, regardless if DC ver is “better”.

SSBB? Maybe wait till like Feb to make a decision to see where the community is with it.

Honestly- I think it should be UM or XI for KOF. I’d much prefer UM, but no idea how well game will take off- it WILL take off in NC though. At the biweeklies here, it seemed to be heavily anticipated.

For a tenth game- what the hell, give Arcana a shot. I’d give it a shot even if I’ve never played it before. I’ll just look like I’m in one of Dark Geese’s tourneys.

Suggestions:

1. Me run anything SNK based or PC based.

2. KOF 98, to replace KOFXI, but keep NGBC. OR, keep it the same way we had it last year.

3. If SSF2T:HD is arcade perfect, or is very good by our standards run that. (I think the ps3 version would be better, everyone just would bring converter for the ps3s.)

4. Yes to arcana

5. Shit if yall don’t want to run VF5, damnit I will! (Yes, fuck the haters, this will get played.)

6. Give me a blow horn, 20 dollars, the directions to the nearest dollar store and a duffel bag for random prizes in free play areas.

Seriously, I want to be more of a help this time. It was great last year, when yall let me run the Snk games at FRX, and it was fun at DSC. But I want more, more damnit! (lol, them damn demands)

Yeah we definitely need more people to step up and help. Especially for SNK games. Can’t let Dark Geese wear himself out to death like last year.

Obviously Melty Blood, Arcana, KOF 98, KOF XI, NGBC, Alpha 2, Alpha 3, Vampire, or whatever can’t ALLLLL be official tournaments.
Keep in mind, even if your game doesn’t make it on the official list, there’s always time for some unofficial tournies on Friday or after the events, even in your own space.

I know for sure Me and DG will run NGBC and KOF XI in our room if we have to.

At EVOworlds alot of people were complaining about the ccc2 version of ST. I understand your point about, but if you have a way to play the original then you should IMO. Trust me I argue this shit every year with kyah and my wife. I didn’t buy these cabinets for nothing damnit!!! I’m going to use them. Now I can try to get some sanwa joysticks on one of my cab’s so those that like the japanese style joysticks will feel better playing on my cab’s. I like happs joysticks and that’s what I have in my cabinets, but i’ll see about getting some sanwa’s in one of them.:wonder:

Misc. suggestions:

–Intercom system and/or megaphones available for EVERYONE who’s running an official tournament.

–Online registration, where you can pay your entry fee and order your badges ahead of time. People can then pick up their badges at the front desk when they check-in to their room. Most people can then just go straight to the tournament pot table on the days of the tournies.

–Set up a rule for the first round of winners: you either have 5 minutes/name called 3 times/whatever to report to your match or you’re put into losers. Assuming every tournament manager has a megaphone and/or we have an intercom, I think this would be more than fair.

–Keep the doors open, as long as possible.

You’re kidding right? You realize that the PS2 version of ST has major issues…

MWC is always going to have arcade cabinets in their tourneys no matter what. As much as everyone wants to emulate the Japanese, everyone simply forgets how much they shun console and how much of a difference their skill level is console to arcade. They don’t really play console, or consider it an accurate depiction of skill, and all their majors are on arcade. While I do realize it is much easier to run things on console, there are no “arcade perfect” versions of ST, A3, CVS2, or MVC2. CVS2 and MVC2 have speed issues, albeit small, but they are there, but they are the most playable. ST is a total mess. THe Alpha Anthology has game lag (non HDTV), both this and CCC2 are based off emus, and suffer from certain issues. Play them side by side on cabinet/supergun and you might see what I am talking about…

About the console cabinet issue, if you think it’s better judge of skill with people sitting cross legged on the floor instead of on a cabinet, I’m not sure what to say to that.

And no, this is not a slight against your tourney shinblanka, you know where I stand on arcade/console…

I know how you feel about console vs arcacde. I just want the tournament to run smoothly. I prefer arcade myself. Why else would I spend an extra $500 on a uhaul every year just to move my shit? I personally think mvc2 and cvs2 on dc are the closest thing to arcade perfect ever made on console since the dc is a striped down naomi arcade system. But people prefer the ps2 version now for some reason. That’s why i’ll run cvs2 on ps2 this year. I’m going to need some help getting ps2 cvs2. That’s like finding a rare pokemon.

it’s a big line up so i suggest to make a time schedule to make sure that each game gets the amount of time needed to be run properly. No crap like 3s at Evo being 1 game, and for MvC2, PLEASE!!!, Winners/Loser finals 3 out of 5, GF 4 out of 7.

We will never have a 1 game elim tournament unless we get #'s like evo when you have over 200-300 people enter in a game.

Hmm…this explains quite a lot. Still, my main point regarding the whole console/arcade thing was mainly based on quantity, not quality. The ST tournament last year did not have nearly enough entrants to justify the time it took to run it, and I figured more stations would make it smoother and quicker. Now I see that without more cabs/boards/etc., this isn’t happening. My bad.

The reason st took so damn long because everyone in the top 5 besides were in other tournaments. That’s usually the problem with the smaller tournaments. Everyone is playing bigger tournaments and they have to play because it’s holding up the big bracket. Can’t aviod that sir.

Larry, I’m petitioning to add Arcana Heart to the fr11 lineup for next year. I know the game isn’t out yet, but if you do a srk search for keyword arcana, you will see that a lot of small communities/random places are hella interested in the game, and it hasnt even come out yet. after sbo, hype is def building up for this game. obviously wed have to wait until the console release comes out to judge interest but i think adding it to a major like fr11 (nec is already running AHF as a major part of their tourney) would give the AHF scene a huge boost to keep the hype going. With that said, I hope you can seriously consider it. Thanks Larry!

Definitely all about Dat Arcana but wassup with VF5 love. Hopefully after the 360 release and hopefully NEC it will be huge here in the States. We need to get hype about the best 3D fighter known to man.

Everything ran smooth last time, i don’t think there’s much to change. ST ran on two cabinets i believe, and it seemed to work out well. Unless the turn out is double last years, i think it staying on cabinet is for the best. It doesn’t take long to run it anyways. CVS2 on PS2 seems like the best idea, there was a ton of debate about it last time, i’m pretty sure CVS2 on PS2 would add at least 10 more players into the mix.
I’m all for giving the tourney megaphones, major props to everyone who ran brackets last year. Yelling 8+ hours a tourney. Madness.

Really? I was thinking about making FRXI a 3 day event with madden having it own day on friday. I agree that madden and fighting gamers usually don’t mix. This will only happen if I can afford the ballroom for 3 days. I think madden would help FR get sponsership and more mainstream without losing that old school fighter feeling to our tournaments.

Well that’s a great idea for cvs2. Man that shit seem like it took 2 hours last year for the grand finals. Every character going under 10 second in the time limit.

I agree with Bob Smack on the whole arcade thing. But I disagree with DreamTR. Just because the Japanese have the best option available to them, like having plenty of arcade machines and having the most skilled players doesn’t mean we should try to emulate those circumstances at the risk of losing comp or alienating the majority. I feel you on the whole Arcade thing and I agree that it makes a big difference, but its just not feasible. At the end of the day we are all pretty much in it for the comp and the community, and there will be plenty of both at FR11 this year.

Only if we could get the kids out of the room then we could have some real fun, SF drinking games are the best!!! At the very least maybe there should be some side tourneys run based on drinking, since we all are in the hotel anyways and the restaurant is in walking distance.

Rick: I fully agree with you, believe me. As much as I wish everything could be arcade, logistically everything (and it being much easier to run) has been switched over to console for the most part. If arcades had some type of resurgence, then this might change, but it does not look to ever happen…
