Final Round 12 focus group discussion

Larry, any chance of A2 and A3 making it back to Final Round next year?

If the point is Smash is taking too long, wouldn’t one of the logical and easiest solutions be to lower the number of competitors? Also, remember the overrun costs from last year.

The point is to profit maximize, not revenue maximize. Since Smash costs more since it takes so long, some sort of compensation has to be done.

The idea of Smash Pools could work, but would require some massive coordination, no late entrants, and DQing like a mofo.

I hope a2 and a3 make it back. I didnt sit around and watch them like a hawk cause they were in cabs and arcade sticks scare me like the boogieman, but from the outside it looked smooth enough.

As for smash.

Pools for brawl would make the problem sooooo much worse. Part of the reason why i havent drug myself to a brawl tourney yet is cause i hear it takes forever. Making a group of people play each other would only make that worse (and nobody would want to watch two pits sit across from each other with arrows, etc etc).

I honestly dont know what raising prices would do. On one end, it would scare off alot of the lower-end people who wouldnt want to shell out 20 bucks for brawl. But on the other end, im thinking it wont matter since brawl is being flooded by people using brawl as their “gateway into the fighting game realm” (the random online people, etc). Depending on how FRXII gets advertised, i wouldnt be surprised if the brawl tourney was mainly those kinds of people. If they’ve never been to a major tourney, they wouldnt even know that $20 is “high”

I dunno, the more i think about it, if you’re really bent on having it, and trying to avoid the overrun; cutting stock sadly sounds like the only option.

As long as they arent slammed by ridiculous rules, i’d assume that people would suck it up.

Thanks for the input D. Your input is always welcomed.:china: Hopefully i’ll see you at next years event. Right now i’m going to make sure I have the venue on my own and if I get sponsership I can upgrade FRXII. News for frxii will be coming soon.

Bitch you’ll run it and like it damnit!!! We’ll see if we can recuit some more people to help run smash.:china:

I know you do, but I don’t know if I want to take it that far adam. There has to be a middle ground both sides can agree on.:xeye:

If someone brings it I might do it sir!

Ok, you just got recuited.:china:

I’m seriously thinking about making ssbb pool play.

Lowwer the number of people will hurt me with the sponsers(if I get any):xeye:

Of course they will be back! Old school for life shawty!:china::china:

Outside of Larry, I probably have more experience running tournaments than anyone else posting in this thread. I’m definitely not looking at this from a player’s perspective (though players should always be a main focus).

I’m bringing up directing issues. You know… like not having to pay for going over time, so Donuts can scrub out in more games.

I hate overtime. I hurts my pockets!:bluu::bluu: Good shit with MD tournament. Heard nothing but great things about it sir.:china:

You will get a good taste of running a venue at the Georgia World Congress Center Shinblanka if you come through to my tournament later this month. If work permits, I hope to see you there.

I hear you hav- but we weren’t all great players at one time. We got to do it for the ones coming after us. LMAO!:devil:

Not sure if this is practical, but if you’re running a Fri night/Sat/Sun setup, here’s an idea.

Run ALL games over two days.

The first day: winners bracket
The second day: losers bracket, then grand finals.

Advantage: it would be easier to find people, people would have a hint when they need to come, and since each day would be single elimination- people could go home earlier/do other stuff as they peace out instead of waiting. Also, consoles could be pared down quicker, allowing for other games to start quicker. Waiting for people to finish games in other areas might be easier to avoid as well. If a game runs long, you have a heads-up for the second day, and might be able to do something to avoid paying overtime for 2 days.

Disadvantages: requires a 2-day commitment to play. 2nd Days will run longer with grand finals. Winner has to play cold (but still only has to win one out of two)

One other suggestion: make a rule where last-minute regs cannot force an additional round of play- only take last-minute folks up to 64,128, or 256 for a tourney. Not as drastic as Evo rules, but it would also help cut down on time.

I think these rules would help to avoid overtime situations, but may not be entirely practical.

I think it might be a good idea to run the longer running games(CVS2,Smash Brothers) early on satruday,so they basically have two days to run.

Dojo Mojo News Flash!!!

Major Fr12 News Coming In The Next 2 Days!!!

I will tell you that frxii wil be a 3 day event next year.

Get hype!!!

why. Why in gods name would you do that to my poor vocal cords? XD

If you make it a three day event how would people who are school aged be able to attend this event? Or people who generally have a work schedule of Monday-Friday. It’d have to run into a Friday or a Monday. So, people who are school aged would be missing school or either not able to attend that day. Is there a certain plan you had for this?

Well Larry switched Final Round dates man, it used to be held during or around the spring break times.
Now Texas Showdown I think has that slot (I could be wrong) around April.

He is a bit too nice sometimes because I would have wanted to keep that slot in time, exspecialy with Final Round not having any sponsership, or being considered a major compared too SRK’s others, but that was doen for the GAMING COMMUNITY which he loves dearly.

His 3-Day’s I’m assuming would be Friday,Saturday,& Sunday.
Honestly it’s up to you all to give suggestions, points, so he can continue to MAKE final round better.

I totally understand that people make plans for final round and things suddenly pop up, this has happened to me twice and I live here in the GA Area and couldn’t show up, so all I can say is post up, keep in touch, and you need to contact me about this ranking system idea, also I posted my own blog its in the GA thread so hit me up soon yo

If you run any SNK games next year I would be more than happy to supply my NeoGeo supergun so there are no emulation issues, as long as it is an MVS realease I got it.

Well yeah, I was just throwing suggestions because I’d hate for people to miss it because of school or other engagements they may have around that time. I mean, during the summer time it’s easier because most people are out of school during break, their kids aren’t in school (if they have any) and people have way more spare time on their hands. But during spring, not so much so. I’d just hate for one day to lack attendance because of this. And people can miss work but can they actually miss school to attend a tournament? Maybe, maybe not, I’m not sure. But Saturday and Sunday there’s typically never school and it is easy to get days like this off at most jobs.

About the ranking system. I have a developer on deck and everything but I’m still trying to get ideas together before I tell him how I want it done. If you want to join the discussion we are discussing ideas about it over at my forums on my website impactclash.com. I don’t want to post the direct link as I don’t want to make it seem like I’m advertising my site or anything but if you visit just check out the forums section and both topics (the only two topics) are talking about this ranking system. If you have any ideas let me know as soon as you get a chance and the plan is to have it done and finished before Impact Clash.

Well with 3 days, we may be able to get more done =P

3 Days I think will finish everything up.
Problem would be getting the people too come, lots of people no-showed the Marval Brackets this past season, which caused 2 days of playing and alot of seeding to be unfair.

The Most Popular games you would figure to be moved and played on an earlier date since they would take longer too play, once again how could we get people to stick to a promise and come???

Strengthen the pot?? (Larger Amount)
Up the entrance fee per game??
A Prize Maybe for the top 3 or 5 outside the actual money??
