Final Fantasy XI Thread-nasty

no, blood sword is a 1 hnd swd

Oh my bad I didn’t read it correctly. Don’t know how I misread that haha.

Been sitting on 34 for the past 3 or 4 days. Been farming (killed Stray Mary and got Mary’s Horn! 60k right there) and leveling my NIN to 10 for Dual Wield. Trying to get back into heavy leveling now this week.

I promised myself I wouldn’t post here again but it’s FFXI so no biggie. =P

Galkas at their base stats are probably the 3rd/4th best Tanks in the game. With their MP boosted, that shoots up. You can’t get any better than a Galka PLD to soak up damage even if they do have some icky aggro issues.

Incorrect. Even at high levels, SAMs are excellent party characters. Their normal damage is rather inane alone but SAMs are the best skillchain charactesr in the game. They act as enhancers to the other classes’ melee damage. Their Gkatana can fit into almost all skillchains in the game so that allows them to be the first hit and help them enhance the damage of more powerful weapon skills. It’s pretty gratifying to see a SAM and MNK do Tachi: Kagero -> Raging Fists do 1000 damage with the Fusion skillchain doing 350 alone =P.

You must be lucky because watchin a Taru PLD get oneshotted at that level range ain’t funny =P.

You think too much like the Japanese =P. However, you are somewhat right in regards to xp parties.

Once you hit 40, DRKs, MNKs, and DRGs outdamages THFs overtime. However, that nice injection every few fights of STV is good stuff and the aggro control is great. Oh and if the party is relying on Trick Attack to control aggro, you got some nub players =P.

I call bullshit too. Unorthodox combinations don’t hurt your character but they hurt your party chances. The only reason is because the large amount of morons that don’t understand the concepts of the game and figure out how to do what they want in alternative manners. Then again, I really don’t expect much out of a lot of people. I have 1500+ hours put into the game since North American Beta and I’ve learned how the game works =P.

I’d respond more to old replies but I’m too lazy to click on the review button down at the button.

Mister K: I play on Fairy.

yeah a taru PLD COULD get one shotted (which is why taru pld is particularly not hot for HNMs <.<), but the odds are so slim that, i haven’t seen it happen from 45-now.

…and i didn’t PT with a taru PLD till 45 but the odds were greater back then anyways.

I think I may just hate Galka PLD because the only one I know of on the server is a fuckin retard and it looks like the PT is playing hot potato with the monster or something because he just blows…

Anyways, IMO sam COULD use some strengthening… but I happen to talk to my buddy Xion (likely has most HNM items on ragnarok…), and he claims to out damage DRKs and DRGs with ease in his PTs even at lv67 (then again he’s wearing amemit mantle+1, valkyrie mask, haubergeon+1, sniper rings, ochidos kote, etc… for an atk bonus of oh, 61… T.T)

So yeah, if you’re not lazy and want to farm / NM hunt for a few weeks… you could get those items and your sam COULD be a true high damage dealer (not the +1s… maybe +1 of haubergeon cause it’s only 400k more, and what’s that when you’re spending over 3 mill?), but if not… you’ll just be another sam that I now view as gimped without the best gear (in comparison, anyways)

and yes, most jobs ARE pretty cookie cutter for EXP PTs. that’s just how it is…

Right. A lot of people want the orthodox job combos for parties for the sake of efficiency and that sucks a lot of fun out of the game. When you break it down though, a lot of job combos work and can do a similar role to their common counterparts but it requires a lot more work. The community itself is terribly lazy though and most don’t know how to tailor their characters or know tactics to do such things.

SAMs are normally pretty damn gimp in terms of their own physical attack power when you do similar equipment/level comparisons to other classes. Your buddy is pretty lucky to have a strong SAM or met really suck ass DRKs, MNKs, and DRGs.

No, my buddy’s lucky to have the best items possible for his level that maybe only 10 or less people on the server have… (not an NA player, of course)

DRG CAN’T be equipped similarly, sam can dish out as much or more damage past 61 if he wears the best possible equip vs drgs best.

DRK however, will continue to out-dmg sams. They can get hauberk, etc… and even without it, the damage bonuses they get with soul eater, etc. is ridiculous~

I also can’t argue with the DRG - DRK renkeis… they can do quiiiite a bit <.<

I didn’t say exact, I said similar. =P. Equipment that boosts attack or STR and etc. Whatever the focus maybe.

You also have to factor in the DRGs pet Wyvern into the equation because DRG + Wyvern is one unit and is the DRG’s power.

First off, about Thieves, the best parties ALL have a Trick Attack in it somewhere. Every damage dealing class has to hold back on damage, for the purpose of not getting too much aggro. Thief gives a huge shot of aggro to the tank, opening the door for everyone else to do more damage. It’s not that you’re relying on S-T for aggro control. It’s more about pushing the aggro threshold a little further.

Second, I’ve seen a Taru PLD’s get one shotted before. I’ve heard about Taru PLD’s get one-shotted. I’ve seen non-Taru PLDs take a big shot of damage that would kill any Taru PLD. Also, even if they won’t die in one hit, Taru’s low HP (and to a lesser extent, VIT) forces the healer to keep him with full HP. As for Galkas, you can minimize aggro, using the higher-leveled cures less often, and you can give yourself time to cast non-curative whm spells, such as erase, haste, MB from their BLM sub, etc… without worrying about putting your tank in one-shot-death reach.

I need better equip. Elvaan fucken suck.

Kevin was born with a Masamune in his hand.

I play taru whm, and almost always the agro stays on the tank because of that fact that I use the lower level spells the majority of the time. At level 49, I’m still using cure 2, and it works fine without drawing any hate. Also, with a galka tank, I can debuff the mob and buff my teammates without worrying about keeping the tanks HP at max (as I would if it were a taru tank).

Most whms don’t seem to understand the concept of hate and mp management. Watching whms cast cure 3 in the upper 30s/low 40s makes me cry ; ;.

Oh yah… Elvaan fucken sucks.

EDIT: Example of a 1 shot: Exoray Spray.

I personally don’t agree that the best parties involve a THF. Actually, the best parties I’ve had ever never involved a THF at all. It’s certainly quite nice but even a PLD can hold generate the amount of aggro a THF’s STV can. I know that one from experience when. There’s nothing like having a mob not budge off you despite getting hit with a STV for 450 damage and getting repeatedly smacked by a DRK that has Last Resort, Berserk, and Souleater stacked.

ok so what thoes everyone think about subing thf/nin and using dual daggers i figured that delay is still gonna be low enough to where ill hit more times then my pt members cause fo the low dagger delay but thats just me you guys seem to know a bit about this game so i aske and nin get delay reduction also

Yah, Paladins CAN hold aggro well, but as long as the damage dealers are holding back in the least bit, more aggro = better. I can’t spam penta all I want, because I’ll get aggro. I have to hold back. With Thief, I can basiclaly go hardcore, once I hit 100% spam Penta. I can also pace my Penta so the mob turns to me at the same time as the Thief gets his ST back. DRK/THF past 60 is bomb for that too…

solo>> I have no idea what the fuck you just said.

Well hot damn if this thread doesn’t deserve a bump.

Update:
40THF/15SAM/14WAR/10NIN (everything else 1)

Having myself a little debate within my LS. What subjob should I work on for the long run to 75THF? The debate is going on between the three subs I have – Samurai, Warrior, and Ninja.

Samurai is pretty much a no-no (although seeing my little cat-bitch run around with a giant sword is pretty cool to watch), Warrior just for the STR bonus (which I don’t really need) and Double Attack, Ninja for the extra evasion and agility bonuses, and ninjutsu.

I’m personally favoring Ninja. A Ninja sub with Dual Wield would build tp faster for more Fuidama’d Vipers.

Thoughts?

I would say Ninja lee, but that’s just me.

Right now I’m

29 rdm/27 brd/15 war/9 smn/ 7 bst
Everything else 1.

I was going brd but then someone else in our ls, who can level much faster then me picked up bard so now I’m goin back to rdm. Refresh and convert city for me. yipee **

does anyone do fishing? whats the fastest way to level fishing?

Can i stop beasting w/ ninja though??
The best tank right here… better than pld whoooo ^^
the best gear too wow

go thf/sam… just because there’s too many thf/nin already… and plus at lv 60 u’ll be bomb cause of 30 sam ^^ but thats just me =P
going for rng/nin next… double archer knife woot

I only got lv 16 War haha

server: seraph

im going thf/nin dual daggers rule specialy when you get to lvl 50thf/25nin and you get delay reduction

THF/NIN for sure. DEX makes Sneak Attack stronger and AGI makes Trick Attack stronger. NIN is really good in both stats. SAM is okay in DEX and ass in AGI. Then you got Dual Wield so you can boost your stats even more, and hit more often. Ninjutsu is useful too.
