How does a fighting game work on a tiny handheld box? I saw Dissidia in a shop…for Sony PSP. Which isn’t much larger than my own hand.
It’s not like you’ll hook up your Hori HRAP stick to it and duke it out.
Never played on a pad before ?
Not really. I started with joysticks on the C64 in the early 80’s, then moved onto Amiga using mouse and joystick only, playstation using mostly the dual analog sticks in games, PC w/ mouse+keyboard and now lately Xbox360 with it’s 2 analog sticks on the pad.
And latest, arcade fighting sticks for the 360 to get back to the old school. I can’t remember ever using the actual d-pad for anything but select weapons in resident evil. My parents never bought me a SNES.
When you hold the PSP, you’re holding the screen so it’ll move around with your hands too…
It’s a nontraditional fighter. But it’s not like it’s different than playing any other game.
Each person has their own screen… It’s not both players on one screen.
ultima weapon
tortoise shield
saucer
vishnu vest
They don’t wanna ban it, they’re just bitching about it being cheap. The forum is full of that loser “honour” bullshit that we all need to deal with when facing scrubs.
They bitch about people who play defensively, saying there’s no honour in that. They bitch about ExBurst’s massive damage, saying there’s no honour in that. And they bitch about ExGuard saying it gives you a free hit and it requires no skill.
Last I checked, the game only requires 2 fingers, 2 thumbs and zero execution, which makes skill a shit argument. So they’re only left with “THERE’S NO HONOUR IN EXGUARDING!”
I hate those people. (=
Terra, right?
Equipments:
Maduin’s Horn
Blue Moon
Chaplet
Snowflake Sweater
I’m no expert with Accessories, so I’ll get back to you on that later.
i’m using cecil
i almost have the (whatever the step up from the giant’s gloves are)
Agreed. Reminds me of my time back when I played Smash seriously (YESZ lol, that was years ago though) when everyone did the same exact thing.
:lovin::lovin::lovin: Thank you so much !
Actually, Maduin’s Horn isn’t that good, even being the ultimate weapon for Terra. I’d much rather use Stardust Rod + Rod Expertise for that extra punch.
I use Squall mainly cause FF8 is my fave game, but my other mains are Cloud, Terra & Probably Firion & WoL.
Clouds links are Many & Easy, Terra’s Keep Away game is also a good strategy, (Especially spamming holy (Fuck you, whoever wants to ban it)), Firion & WoL are just fun to play.
The only thing that bothers me about the game is that when you go online you can tell the shits that have Access hacks like those that have Puppeteers wheel every match & all thier characters are lvl 100 with 4 hours played with Shan & judge unlocked. I love Dissidia though So much fun & no real depth like SF. It’s just there to have fun with.
Squall has the best Bravery move of all - Beat Fang
Been playing the hardest mode, Inward Chaos all day. CPU becomes INSANELY broken & 90% impossible. Gets even harder on th upward levels like Lifestream & Ultimecia’s Castle! Makes me wanna play online again to make myself look good lol
I played Inward Chaos only to get the 100% of the episode, and it almost made me sick. Lucky for me that I only had to do it twice.
So the sum total of skill = manual dexterity?
Not that I disagree with your central premise; I’m just questioning your wording here. I think Dissidia can be a skillful game even though there’s nothing especially difficult to execute in it (haven’t tried those dodge cancel combos as yet though; don’t play any characters that have them as yet).
Xinkai:
Can you prove that it has no depth like SF? Is the game broken at high levels? I’m asking a serious question here, because I question the game’s engine against other players (aside from maybe Jecht, it seems block/dodge -> *)
EDIT:
Anyplay play Inward Choas with Tidus? The first two stages weren’t too bad, but 3 and 4 were damn hard (the stages are even more of a bother than the overpowered characters), and it took me eight motherfucking hours to be Chaos!.Holy Impossible Fights Batman! >:|
EDIT 2:
Holy shit. typo! Sorry! That should have said “Not that I disagree”, not “Note that I disagree”.
This is why you need a well-trained Jecht.
to be honest looking at jecht and looking at every other character in the game i feel as though the game would take more skill if you had to time your combos like jecht other then just mashing O and square with squall to win.
like how sick would it be if for example firions rope knife BRV attack could combo into double trouble, had to TIME the square start up attack when he pulls in, and then you could time O for alot of brv damage, or time square for HP at the end of the combo. I just feel like it would spread the field between mashers and veterans…so itd be cool if dissidia 2 or a remake had this feature…not for a while though…
I think that while there is a grain of truth in this, it is not completely true. Having to time combos would require better execution, and while execution is certainly a facet of skill, it is not the only one. Having the best execution in the world would make you a monster combo video maker, but it won’t necessarily make you a winning player.
In fact, I’ll go out on a limb and say that I feel execution is given far more importance than it ought to be in fighting game communities. After all, combos and special moves are just the tools that you use to accomplish your goal (beating the opponent). Saying that players with better execution are necessarily more skilled at playing fighting games is like saying that painters with better brush mastery are necessarily better artists.
I think that Dissidia is great because it doesn’t make you jump through hoops just to be able to perform the moves. Instead, the focus is on how the moves are used. Strategy and reflexes become the focus, and not just sheer execution. While this does allow button-mashers to flourish more than they otherwise would, it also means fewer of those annoying games that are won or lost based on a missed “just-frame” move or combo.
Finally, removing the focus from execution also allows players to really get into the game right away, instead of having to play hours and hours in practice mode just to get moves and combos down to muscle memory. That’s a huge plus for a portable game like Dissidia.
this is all true and ill agree. I didnt mean for it to come out like top execution=pro i meant it in the way of performing better with your character then a simple masher does, you understand right?
Performing better with a character is a good thing, and I agree with this sentiment. Games should not encourage button-mashing and move-spamming. I think that the best games focus on knowing what to do and when to do it, not simply being able to perform a single broken move or pattern and endlessly repeating it.
