Final Fantasy Dissidia thread. Sequel announced!

You mean they actually have Dissidia tournaments over there? Not saying it’s not possible, but I didn’t expect the competitive scene to get off the ground even in Japan O_o. That’s really cool then.

Anyway, Cloud winning a lot really doesn’t mean that much. If the only way to make the game competitive is to limit play that severely (I mean, no repetitive strings in a fighting game? Come on.), it probably isn’t worth playing at that level.

As such, it’s something you’re gonna want to make sure is game-breaking and not just really really good before making that decision.

Trust me, a wired PS3 connection is what you’d probably want anyway.

In other news, Exdeath is the slowest character in the history of our planet.

But I can’t stop using him! lol

My router is nowhere near my PS3 sadly. And it’s shared.

That sucks, I had the same issue when I had our home office upstairs. I finally just put the router downstairs so the PS3 and 360 could be on the hard-wired connection and now my PC is on the wireless

Maybe they’ll alter it soon. PS3 does have built-in wireless so that is kind of a big oversight.

Meh@infinites.

EX Burst Guard is where it is at.

The DFF Forum community is debating banning those among themselves too, I think. Or just EX mode altogether.

The people on the DFF boards really don’t know what the fuck they’re talking about. They wanna ban shit cause they’re “cheap” when they don’t even know the meaning of the word.

Yes, this is what I suspected. Not surprising considering that most of them probably don’t play anything else “seriously”.

This great to break and waste time. Why would any one want to try to play this seriously?

Actually, they do play it seriously. But they just don’t know shit.

…u mean not at all broken?:wtf:

I’m still debating buying the localised verison of Dissidia. I bought the JP when it came out, but there is ALOT of text to read which is rather important when choosing equipment and abilities for characters.

Fuck it, I really enjoyed it when it came out, I’ll pick one up tomorrow.

They’re complaining about EX Burst doing too much damage but the thing is you HAVE to get meter to do it.

We never went, “DERP! NO SUPERS! THEY DO TOO MUCH DAMAGE AND YOU CAN COMBO INTO THEM!” and Dustloop never said, “DON’T BURST IT BREAKS COMBOS!”

So I think they just need to quit being little girls because EX Bursts do damage.

And Exdeath is so fun. I figured he’d be boring just because he’s a counter character. I was wrong. I was so wrong.

If you’ll permit me to theoryfight wouldn’t the lower tier characters be really helped by having EX Bursts allowed too? Without them they’re sort of losing an edge. At least that’s my take on it.

Well, when you look at the EX mode, you have to look at all the aspects of it.

Sure, EX Burst does a shit ton of damage by itself, that won’t be challenged at all. However, seeing as you have to hit with an HP attack in the first place to enter EX Burst, that’s pretty much another free HP attack and unless they screw up may be stronger then the first due to breaking.

Another thing is the EX Guard, which means at any point when being attacked and your meter is full you activate EX mode and bam, free HP attack into EX Burst more often then not.

Sure, you could run away from them in EX mode, but most characters will most benefit from this a little bit also due to the regen of the mode. It’s not much sure, but it could possibly stop a kill. The only character to not have this to my knowledge is Firion, as he has to hit the opponent with an HP attack to get life back.

Let’s not also forget if you ban/limit/whatever to EX mode, you fuck over Gabranth. Now he just becomes a shell of a character with half his move locked and unable to perform HP damage outside of chase attacks. Good luck with that, as your opponent will good at reading you REAL quickly if that’s your only opition for damage. In effect, he’d be unplayable beyond belief.

I’m not going to advocate a ban or anything, I’m just saying. If you could just turn EX Cores off (yes, I know I’m going to sound like smash players here) or something, then it’d better, seeing as you’d either have to have really long fight or be activately going after the little blue spheres to fill up your meter.

Even if the enemy has full EX it is still possible to chip away damage from them and increase your own. For example, you can use the Concentration skill to help build you brave while not attacking the enemy. Once your BRV is a big enough number to withstand their EX Burst, you can take the risk of attacking them. Also, it is possible to trick people out of EX. With faster characters like Squall or Kuja, you can hit them with Beat Fang or Strike Energy. Most the time they will expect you to follow up with the other half of the attack, so they will EX expecting to guard it. That’s when you dodge out of the attack and continue you fighting them with out worry of EX Guard.

EDIT!!!

Also, if I might add, if using Equipment or Accessories is allowed in tournament play, you can always equip a Phoenix Down or a Phoenix Pinion, guaranteeing you the chance of surviving if you are hit with one of the stronger Ex Bursts, such as Cloud’s.

none from FF 4-6?

I think FF6 got some of the best characters. I wanna see Terra carrying the Atma Weapon…

If you guys wanna ban some stuff I think summons are a huge candidate. Who else hates seeing magic pot pop up? Even though it evens it helps the loser, it totally sucks if you are winning and they then have the same bp as you. Other summons are pretty strong, doing things like doubling bp can make you reach enough to end the match if you have ex.

Now I think it’s fun and all and I still play with summons with my friends, but I think in a competition it makes a rather slippery slope (or makes it a flat plane with magic pot). If equipment or accessories are allowed though, I think summons would be a in too. Though don’t take what I say seriously since the only time I play this game is when I mooch off my friends.

I think taking this game seriously is rather funny to be quite honest but whatever floats peoples boat. Either way I can’t put Duel Colloseum down so i give props to Square for making a really good fanwank game.

Atleast if you’re gonna take it seriously, do it right. All they do is bitch about how ExBurst/ExMode/ExGuard is broken. They wanna run a tournament and they’re not even doing THAT right.
