Easily top tier. He has no bad matchups, all his moves are safe, he has the BEST move in the game (Genesis Rock) and he does heavy damage with the flashy combos.
Lol, I love how he ends doing that move. “…farewell”. Golbez is awesome, both during the story (work for both sides much?) and in-game.
As for the whole grinding thing, I heard about fighting aganist a lvl 100 ExDeath to level up really fast but comes at a drawback of not building AP.
For AP, you can just fight Inward Chaos on your special day to get a lot.
Use a set you’re not using, put three of the move you wanna build the AP for + Special Day, vs Chaos. Should take you few matches to build it fully.
ExDeath is good for leveling up. So far, it feels like a balanced game, but there are some unwinnable matchups like Emperor vs a good Squall.
i wouldn’t say it’s unwinnable… in fact, i think Kefka has a harder time vs. Squall than the Emperor
Not in the ENG version. Kefka got a pretty big buff, making some of his moves undashable as well as giving Wiggly Wobble Firaga (roll with it) great homing. Just go Firaga from a distance and then cast Blizzard. It’s a garunteed hit if they decide to dodge Blizzard. Even if they block, Firaga will still hit.
If you wanna play Kefka, just play like a retard and good shit will happen. Which is the opposite of Emperor.

Yeah, they balanced out a lot of stuff in the ENG version. However, they also gave Squall some big buffs. He was already a great one shot character, but they increased the possibilities of him getting that one shot…
How did Squall get buffed? As a Squall player I’d like to know. I can’t find any changes for him on GFAQs…

All the buff Squall really needed was to give him a good HP attack and that’s what he got. Aerial Rough Divide. I can safely say that it’s a bit TOO good. It can go through A LOT of things…
Thanks to that, I think the only bad matchups he really has are against ExDeath and Golbez. Ultimecia used to be a Squall destroyer, but that Aerial Rough Divide is so good, that it’s now sorta the opposite…

Aerial Rough Divide? Are you sure? That move seemed to be totally useless. Didn’t know it could go through anything at all. Yeah I know GFAQs sucks but they really take to portable fighters for some reason. Also, is it me or does the free air dash have a sort of graze property to it? I noticed that it seems to go through some projectiles, like some of Emperor’s beams.
Also, what is Holy Combo and why do people go on about how broken it is?
Rough Divide isn’t that great, but the Aerial Rough Divide is. They buffed it up for the ENG version and the aerial one is faster than the ground one. compare them to HVB and AHVB.
Some projectiles are Dashable like Ultimecia’s uncharged swords and Terra’s Holy, so it’s best to do these moves up close.
Holy Combo is another version of Terra’s Holy move. It’s the same projectile, but if it hits, you can fire three Flares and then press Square to do Ultima for massive damage. That won’t be a problem if Terra didn’t get so many critics. In her ExMode, she fires two Holy combos, six Flares and does two Ultimas.
It’s not so cheap anymore because Flare is a little riskier now.
Oh right. I thought Holy Combo was just the light orbs but I suppose I was mistaken.
It is the orbs, just a better version of it. Kinda like Ember and Flamethrower in Pokemon.

Golbez is my main, so I can help. I’m currently working on something to help out some people that wanna pick him up, but I’m not done yet and I don’t have that much experience with a lot of the matchups, so I’m taking it slow.

Quick Battles level you up as well. I’ve gotten my Squall to level 30 now by replaying Ultimecia a few times in Quick Battle at the same level as I was. Story mode is a good way though, especially when you can get the easy wins on the harder enemies.
Arcade mode uses presets, I don’t think it gets you any EXP.
