Fighting / Strategy Game Combined

I think someone should make a fighting strategy game lol… Basically it would make strategy games a lot more detailed as far as the combat goes. What do you guys think?

Im not going to flame you automatically like some of these people will but im trying to figure out just exactly how that would work though.

What would the rules be, what about possible handicaps or different types of characters. Alot of things go into a strat game, and it would be imo increadibly difficult to make a fighting/strat game properly.

LOL you actually added the avatar! It can be done, but I really don’t see the point. One benefit I can see in such a game would be to separate the people who ahve “twitch” reflex gameplay skills, and those who like to strategise. If you can choose between 2 differnet styles and still maintain balance, then you might be on to something.

Na, I’m just saying that since most strategy games are turn based, or involve some intuitive form of combat other than pressing buttons/combos, then a game that can balance the two might be just what the thread maker is considering. I kinda feel that it’s a completely unessecary cross-over, personally, but it could possibly work. It’d be reeeeeeeal hard to balance though.

I really don’t like that the original idea assumes there is no strategy in fighting games. I’m trying real hard to focus my games from the easy high/low/throw mixups into something more solid: clock control, meter control, territory control.

Or maybe you’re just wanting to play Archon again.

White Wolf’s combat system for Street Fighter is arguably a strategy game (hex combat, can be run almost like FFT).

Well… Details on what I meant exactly:

Only heroes should be capable of doing combos and other stuff. This would provide balance so that bots can’t be made to mad button press on the whole army. The other non-hero units should be like the ones in Warhammer 40k DOW, they do some different moves and a finishing move or two.

Upgrade Example:
You should also be able to upgrade the unit’s combat skills to do more advanced moves. This could balance out the strategy player vs the street fighting type player.

Resource Gathering:
This should be completely different from games like wc3. It should given to you based on your skill in the game somehow.

The purpose of this type of game would be to draw new groups of people interested in video games.

Well, if you want to do it that way then try the WC3 editors.
