Not all fighting games are doing poorly, just the 2D ones. Last time I checked, Tekken and Soul Calibur are still doing well, DOA is doing okay right now, and, like it or hate it, MK and Smash still sell like crazy. Of course, the latter games sell mainly because of gimmicks/blood/etc., but one of them (Smash) is actually pretty good. To me, as a series, it was, is, and will probably be the best thing to happen to fighting games. IF you consider it a fighting game, however…
Its not like there aren’t 50000000 trashy 3d games that no one will buy like “DEER HUNTER 64 2”
the decline of arcades in North America is one of the biggest reasons that fighing games are feeling the pinch.
Tecmo going console only for DO3 and DOA4 leaves the game untested by arcade players to break the game first.
Namco going weird on it’s console releases of SC2 with exclussive characters, then with SC3 being console first .
Respect Sega for their excellent job with their location tests and getting players to break in VF5 to ensure that it’s official arcade release to be sweet.
