One thing that does get on my tits though is when people say Sodium to refer to salt. That’s like saying Hydrogen to refer to water.
I love all of these memes, but outside FGC, honestly there was a time where EVERYBODY would put EPIC before every fucking word.
Forever I agree with you.
You can’t defeat the epic swag.
I don’t like when people describe mix ups in general as “something that makes you guess”
Most basic overheads and block mix ups are designed to be reactionable, except maybe throws and that depends on the game and how it handles throw teching, or how easy they are to set up. Even when it’s not a reactionable mix up, guessing is still the wrong word, as that implies we’re in some sort of lottery or contest of randomness. In those cases, I believe the correct word would be “predict” or “read”, since that’s what you’re supposed to be doing, not guessing.
I would prefer if people just defined a mix up as “something that makes you react” as that encompasses both traditional reaction time and more cerebral reactions like reading and predicting.
It’s guessing in the same sense that rock paper scissors is guessing. There’s some uncertainty, but good reads can give you results much better than random chance.
If I had to throw out a definition, I’d start with something like “a situation in which you cannot discern the correct move from the information you parse from the game state.”
It’s a little difficult to pin down, since for fighting games it really relies on the buffer of human reaction time.
Godlike, that was so god like like, his that was so godlike, the cats anus is so god like…salty is a term around my state that has been around since are folks played linken logs…Im amazed some one said it and 99% of people where freaking amazed on the godlike salty comment… to be honest and this is gonna sound lame. but after watching a few streams and interviews and even see pros use the Godlike 30 times in 2 minute clip interview or Q&A…i was actually a shamed to be a fightgame player… im not even the slightest religious fantatic, its just more lame a video game player comparing anything to godly powers is a cringer
Just don’t capitalize the g. Problem solved.
Though I tend to shy away from abusing that phrase too much as well. Just cause it sounds kinda lame in my opinion.
why? godlike is a great word, it means that if a deity came down and got on the game, they would play like that person
Sick of hearing the term “waste of a character slot.” What happen to the days when developers made the roster themselves and players had to go through their choices to find their favorite character(s)? Now people think they can decide who gets in a fighting game through polls and mail spam, and any confirmed character they’re not fond of decrease the chances of their favorite character(s) getting in.
Possibly a side effect of character trailers.
Constant misuse of “broken”
“Spam”
“Trolling”
“Scrub” being used to describe just any ol’ inexperienced and/or bad player
Also the term “lame game” or any derivative to describe a tactic you just happen to suck against… If you use this term, you’re probably a real scrub
Also when terms from FGs are used in real life situations. Like for example when a woman has a baby she doesn’t want she may exercise one of many options: dumping the newborn in a dumpster, ringing a doorbell and running or the new trend of taking the swaddling-wrapped child over Amazon waters in an airplane and dropping it over-board, aka “Blanka Balling”. This needs to stop (the use of the term, I mean)
Also Chick-Fil-A Fries > BK~
You must hate me, my GT is NeWxGoD lol
(Lingo that’s not FG related)
Something I find really annoying… “Actual fuck”
“What in the actual fuck?” sounds like someone who was a rejected orphan trying to sound sophisticated and intelligent, meanwhile to those who know better, looks like a completely fucking jackass.
Back on topic, I really hate the term “spammer”. If I see you can’t pushblock, yes, I’m going to lock your ass down with as many projectiles as possible.
maybe cuz i’ve been around for a while or maybe cuz I’m on EC but i love it all…actually i dont like “spam” thats not a FGC creation. I got love for the lingo that was created because of the love of fighting games and trash talk. Seems alot of newcomers dont like “free” and “scrub” but how can anyone not like “godlike” . That shit is godlike
Free, stay solid, godlike, that shit is ass( LI Joe lol), pringles etc have become a part of my normal convo (outside of the office of course). I mean we have our own lingo i think that cool. unique. too each his own i guess
Stay Free?
On that note, I dislike “assist spam”, as in
“All you know how to do is assist spam. Unlike you, I am a truly skilled player because I don’t use assists.”
‘buffer-able’
People descripe a normal that can be cancelled into a special as ‘bufferable’. e.g. 'c.strong is his best bufferable normal’
Drives me up a wall. You don’t ‘buffer’ a c.strong, you cancel it. The d, d/f, f of the fireball you cancelled it into, that’s bufferable, regardless of wether you cancelled it or just did the fireball after the c.strong. SPD’s are ‘bufferable’ in that you can put the inputs into the buffer during some other move like a jump or a s.short for a tick throw.
c.strong xx hadouken: you buffered the hadouken motion, and cancelled the c.strong.
c.short xx SPD: You’re an idiot that just whiffed an SPD, but sure. In this case, the SPD was buffered, and the c.short was cancelled.
c.short, SPD: Better, now you’re tick throwing. You buffered the SPD, and didn’t cancel the c.short.
The normal or first move isn’t bufferable, because you didnt buffer it. The second move is the bufferable one because you put the inputs into the buffer during some other animation. The first two moves of a rekka are cancellable into the next rekka. All three moves of a rekka are bufferable.
Grr. Y U NO USE THE WORDS YOU MEAN?
SCHWAAG
“Anime fighter” is pretty depressing. You either have the people who use it to refer to Vampire, Marvel, Guilty Gear, Melty Blood, and so on. Then you have people who use it to refer to anything that isn’t SF or Marvel. The dumb-sounding first definition is a million times better, but the term is plain stupid no matter what. Unlike “okizeme”, you’re better off writing a good phrase out. Unfortunately, I can’t think of anything besides “Vampire-like”, which is probably why we have this situation.
