Fighting game lingo you find annoying

Whenever the lingo is overused, I end up getting sick of all of it. So every time I watch a stream, for example. But there’s one lingo that I universally hate no matter what: “technology”. It pisses me off like no other, likely because I’m a CIT/CS guy, and I work with and create actual technology, for my college studies, for work, and for fun. I won’t deny that it takes intelligence to come up with useful tactics and technique, but calling it “technology” is unbearably pretentious and egotistical.

Not really fighting game lingo but the term ‘troll’ has always bothered me. Anything you can get away with saying in World of Warcraft scotch-free and using it outside of gaming warrants awkward social situations.

‘Fraud’ is ingenious though.

Not actually lingo but I hate how people try to hate on Smash players saying it’s not a real fighting game and they should play a traditional fighter. It wasnt made to be competitive but it can be. MvC2 wasnt made to be played at tournaments and for money matches but look at how that shit turned out. If people want to explore the depths of a game and have tournies for it, let them. Im sure it’s not bothering you in any way.

I didn’t know that each game has requirement to be played in certain countries.

you don’t know how to take an obvious joke either.

Sorry i am a really sensitive person :frowning:

Hell I always thought “technology” came from when Ironman says “Superior Tech” when he won in the old games. Which would work in both superior technique and technology.

Overall I don’t mind any terms except the frauds abusing the YuriParty joke when they wasn’t in the stream.

What makes something actual technology?

Real talk - this thread is making me mad salty! Y’all think you have the technology to scoop all these terms. But listen up scrubs, you’re just a bunch of stream monsters trying to look like DAT MANGO SENTINEL because you think people will “get hype” if you try run a vortex on lingo. If you had half the Yomi you think you do, you’d know your swagger aint shit. And if you weren’t so free, the next time you felt like telling someone Happy Birthday you’d realize you should HOLD DAT comment to yourself! But no, you trolls just keep running that shit back. All I can say to that is cool story bro.

Still, I love you guys! No homo!

BAM Mind Blown.

Is dat [S]Magneto[/S] Sweet Johnny V?

The guys going off on thread titles all the sudden are going off in an entirely different realm altogether in my eyes. In-jokes or whatever those thread titles are considered doesn’t equal slang. Yeah it’s kinda strange, but they also serve a purpose to attract attention to that specific thread instead of others.

Once I was watching a stream where Damdai was playing as T. Hawk in SSF4. The announcers, after Damdai won, started calling it “Trollhawk.” And wouldn’t shut the fuck up about “Trollhawk.”

So, Trollhawk.

I love the mexi upper!

Real talk? I am glad this thread exists, makes me want to continue using fighting game slang. Stay free

In the really old days, a cross up was also known as a “rough-neck kick”

Guile flashkick was a “jack-knife”

It varied by place, we always called the flash kick a ‘crescent kick’

How was vortex created in SF4 if the term was already used before SF4 was even created?

A vortex is not just a regular high low mixup, it describes being able to attack from all vectors consistently without stopping as if the opponent is within a real vortex. Magneto can go front high, front mid, front low, back high, back mid, back low, throw, etc, almost instantly and keep it up. In SF4, this doesn’t exist at all. You have a single slow mixup and if it gets blocked you might as well go to sleep since the game is slow.

Man, we got dumbest GD poster awards, FGD really needs to start doing awards.

Also most Smash lingo.

yeah except MvC2 is the greatest game ever and Smash is a joke. The game’s been out forever and hasn’t proven itself. MvC2 did

Thats sorta what I mean though. They have fun playing it at a competitive level, it’s not bothering anyone to just let them have tournaments and explore the game. A lot of MvC2 vets hate MvC3 because it’s more about combos than resets but that doesnt make it an inferior game, just different. Brawl (no offense to anyone) may not be as complex as most traditional fighters but it has depth and any game with decent depth can be played competitively. I just see no reason for all the “lol Brawl isnt a FG.”
