Fighting CPU Dan in SFA1

I wanted to know how you get to fight Dan in Arcade mode of Alpha 1. I beat the first 5 character without continuing and I did choose the same win quote (hold down 3 buttons after winning your second round) every time but he did not challenge me. Is there something else I have to do?

make sure you have 1p color if you’re 1p, and 2p color if you’re 2p

thanks, i tried it a second time and it did work the 2nd time, strange. i even loss my first match and a couple of rounds and it still worked.
