Fighter's Console: PS3 or 360?

I never could understand so many Sony fanboys getting throbbing erections from the PSX/PS2/PS3 D-Pad. I own a PS2 and 3, and more than a few fighting games, and I find the Sony D-Pad to be imprecise and way more condusive to hand-cramping, blisters, and the like than D-Pads on any other console. It’s my least favorite controller, really.

That said, PS3’s lack of consequences for droppers (PSN is free, but you get what you pay for), and crummy selection of fighting games in general, makes the 360 the winner in my book. Plus, with XBox Live Arcade getting Soul Calibur I, Samurai Shodown II, and already having Guilty Gear online playable… it just boggles my mind that people still consider Playstation the best console for Fighting.

PS3 being region coded free and the adapter is enough to put it ahead.

You really use the 360’s d-pad?

As opposed to the 360’s fighting game library? Right now the old thing that the 360 has going for it is Vf5. DOA4 is a joke. Most of the japanese fighting games are gonna go to the Ps3 eventually anyways, and half of them are out right now as well. Plus PS3 games I’m pretty sure are guaranteed region free, whereas the 360 the developers have the option of implementing it or not. Rumble Fish and Battle Fantasia I’m pretty sure are out right now, which will probably never go to the 360. You have future releases like Tekken 6, Arcana Heart 2 would probably come out for the ps3, BlazBlue for sure, and probably that VF5 update as well.

Dual Shock or SNES pads are the only ones I can actually play fighters on well, period. It is of course personal opinion, but I have a hard time imagining people prefer the 360 pad over anything.

PS3…the controller is ideal for fighting games (if you don’t have a custom arcade stick…imo).

Ehh… I would say PS3 for the future…but I really don’t play fighters on mine. Controller compatability with converters is the main draw there, but I play 3rd strike on my old xbox and VF5 (and the HD Remix beta, and Hyper Fighting) on my 360. Everything else for me is PS2. Right now, you have a pretty difficult choice, but I’m thinking 360. The biggest problem for me there is using the official controllers, but I use a custom stick anyway.

Agreed. From a sales standpoint, Tekken 6’s release should even the playing field.

I wouldn’t be shocked if Tekken 6 ends up on the 360. Microsoft will throw that cash down to get it.

The only advantage the PS3 would have then is SNK/dojin stuff, and well, that stuff isn’t that big in the US.

You know, a year ago I would’nt have been surprised to hear if T6 were to go to the 360. But now that Sony is doing a lot better, and the fact that a real Tekken game has not appeared on anything but Sony consoles, I don’t see it happening. And even if it did, PS3 still has more than enough options to hold it’s own against the 360.

And with that, I would say PS3 as well. T6, Tekken: DR, BlueBlaze, Battle Fantasia. The ability to just buy a converter and use your custom stick. If you don’t have either/or, you have the PS3 pad, which is really good. Whereas 360 has a lot of limitations to it right now.

I can’t say PS3 without mentioning my beloved PS2. I use my PS2 way more than my PS3, mainly because I strictly play imports booted from the HDD in my PS2. I still enjoy my PS3 but for now there hasn’t been any fighting games out for PS3 that interests me, besides VF5 that I had on PS3 launch day, T5DR is no longer of my interest.
Plus I GOTZ DAT MANGO PELICAN ADAPTER ;~

The only fighting game I play online is SSF2T, I use 2DF for that.

PS3 + PS2 combo. The PS3 lags when playing PS2 games now, regardless of resolution.

Does a PS to USB converter work the PS3? I have a Neo-Stick 2 that I use on my PC to play my games, but I was curious if it would work on a PS3 (Or even a Xbox 360). I was thinking about getting a PS3 though since it does seem to be the system that will get the most fighters, although Virtua Fighter 5 online is also tempting.

Dreamcast…

You’re not going to know until the PS4 and Xbox720 come out, so just pick one before you actually miss out on everything.

The only thing I see the wii getting that you can’t get else where would be kof 2k2 on the VC. Ps2 version was whack. DC was slightly off as well.

I’d go with the 360 for SFIV and HD remix. Yeah the ps3 will get them too, but I trust xbox live more.

oh and Castlevania Judgment of course(disregard if not a castlevania mark who hates current castlevania fans)

i say ps3. since all the future fighting games r coming for it. blazeblu kof xii tekken 6.plus if ur not happy with the ps3 pad isnt capcpm gona talk to sega to making a ps3 saturn pad or some shit like that?

It doesn’t work for either, PS3 or 360 controls to USB work, but not other way around.

VF5 online trumps all the other goodies the PS3 is getting to me. I’d rather have 1 great fighter then 10 mediocre ones, and the 360 is getting the games that matter the most to me (SC4, SF4)- only one I’m worried about is Samsho Sen, but I don’t expect that to be as good.

I would vote for ps2 because of obvious reasons. but as far as next gen goes, lets line up the current games out:

ps3:
Mortal kombat 2
tekken series
Virtua fighter 5 (inferior version)
Ps1/2 BC
easier linux possibilities with emu roms

360:
Dead or Alive 4
UMK3
fatal fury
SF: hyper fighting
STHD: beta
Guilty Gear reloaded
Virtua Fighter 5 (superior version)
limited xbox1 BC

im thinkin 360 is killin it so far… in the future with the new arcana, sf4 being better on ps3 for pad reasons, and a lot of Japanese games coming out for ps3 and no region protection, ps3 is gonna be comin up.

I thought PS3/Xbox 360 used USB so shouldn’t my USB converter work?

Yeah. I understand why some people might dislike it, particularly Shoto users, but I find on both HF and Virtua Fighter 5, I can use the Stick and D-Pad with equal accuracy.

But mostly, it’s the Crappy PSN, and the fact that people who drop after losing aren’t penalized that isn’t excusable for me. On Hyper Fighting for XBLA, if someone drops (at least since the update) they lose the match and drop in rank. On PSN, because it isn’t one central server, the loss (if it’s assigned at all during a drop) is completely randomized. So in other words, someone may drop on you and you take the loss. That is an issue that Sony will likely never remedy, as well, because rectifying it means making a ‘central’ server like XBox LIve, but then not charging for it to cover costs (as Microsoft does).

yeah 360 is winning now, for sure.
however japan does not like 360 so unless 360 can become a significant presance in japan the 360 is gonna be screwed on fighting games. Though O. Xbox had a close to equal lineup of fighting games up till like 360 cameout.
